I am not a complainer by nature, but this time I feel like I got ripped . . . . . in 2006 we had an air conditioning service and paid about $1000. - $1200. for an extended service agreement for 5 years that would save us a tremendous amount of money. It would include an annual check up of the heater and A/C units and if anything needed to be done I would receive a 20% discount on parts and services.

Two says ago we noticed that the house was not as cool as usual and living in the desert A/C is something you dont want to mess with. My wife called the contract service company and they sent someone out right away. The service technician was here and told us that the unit most likely was low on refrigerant and he checked and said that there must be a leak and he would recharge the system (cost about $100. - $120.).

He ended up (according to the service person) putting in 3 lbs. 7 oz. of what he called R 410 A refrigerant. Nothing else was done to the unit, and when I was handed the bill it was for $195.20 (the regular price) less my 20% discount which was $156.16 plus tax on $101.50 for a total of $165.14.

This seemed high to us and in checking with for random air conditioning companies and without having a service agreement the highest price for the refrigerant was $90.00 which included the service call in 2 of the four cases. I called the company and told them that I felt uncomfortable about the overage and asked to have a manager call. One did and agreed with me that there was an overcharge and he would contact the office manager and have him call me to get it resolved.

The office manager called and stated that there was not an overcharge and those were there prices. They were not willing to adjust the cost or do anything to change the price. I must mention that I was told that the first lb. of refrigerant was $80. something dollars. I feel that I should contact the BBB since I feel that I was overcharged by about $65.00.
