Precision Overhead Garage Door Service Reviews

repair
New garage door/electric openers installed 2 years ago, which went fine. Called to do a "tune-up". Installer tells my spouse the brackets they installed are crap; having lots of problems with them. For $45, he'll put better ones in. I arrive home as work is being done and ask about 10 year warranty. Told if he just adjusts the original brackets, they'll be out of line in a few days, but that's all that's covered under warranty. I decide to call the Office. Barry says he doesn't want to be in the middle. I say he's not, because I'm calling the Office, but learn that Harry (Franchise Owner) is not in. In the minute I'm on hold, Barry removes the bracket, reattaches the defective one, and drives out of there (after threatening to call police because "I'm holding him there against his will" even though he could get his truck out anyway). Harry never returns call, so I call next day. He tells me that he instructs his workers to leave when customer is dissatisfied. He disagrees with Barry's representation that original brackets are of poor durability and quality and that the quoted price wasn't really for the brackets but for the service call. I tell him that wasn't what Barry said; in any event, I'd been quoted $29.95 for service call plus whatever parts might need to be used. Doesn't care that he'll lose me as a customer. So be it. But be warned. I think they are running a "scam" telling you an original product is bad and they can replace it with a better one but for a cost (whether modest or expensive). Worse though is that they don't care about customer satisfaction.

Selling us something we did not need
We had a new garage door installed and we also purchased new remote openers to be programmed as well. The "tech" they sent out to program the remotes insisted that the remotes didn't work because the sensor or transmitter in garage door opener was broken and that we needed a new one for the price of $350-600 after just spending $750 with the company. He said he had been in the business for 20 years and knew what he was talking about and that we certainly needed a new one. We paid a second company to come out and check the transmitter/sensor and within one minute he had the remotes programmed and working with our existing garage door opener, magically! We called Precision back to let them know and ask that we be refunded the fee to have a second company come out to show us that our remotes worked... We expressed that we felt they tried to sell us something we did not need, of course he refuted, but also refused to reimburse us the $65 fee to have the other company come out and be HONEST with us.
We believe Precision garage door tried to scam us into purchasing an item we obviously did not need. We DO NOT recommend this company.
There are plenty of other garage door companies out there that are honest and i'm sure offer great customer service.

Terrible experience
Consumers please be aware of Precision Overhead Garage Door Service in NJ. I was fortunate to have noted the other complaints against this company in other states & was able to avert having to pay over double for a simple job replacing springs & pulleys on my garage door. He wanted to charge me $476.00 which included $70 off for the service call. It sounded very high to me & I did a google search on the company & sure enough, it had numerous complaints against it in other locations. Upon finding these other reports - I immediately told the service man to stop what he was doing & told him to leave.

I called a few other places & found a guy in our area, Princeton Overhead Garage Door Co. who did the job for $180. He has been in business for 38 years & told me I was one of many people he had heard of that were being scammed by this company. He said they will try to overcharge unsuspecting homeowners & was incensed that they get away with it, namely because they advertise so heavily in the the Yellow Pages & look legit.

Precision claims they use parts that are superior to their competition's which is bogus (springs are springs & pulleys are pulleys, wire cable is wire cable). & that they offer a higher level of service! DON'T fall for this spiel - I am planning to report them to the better business bureau as well - they should be investigated & charged for thievery! Be warned.
