CREDIT CARD CONSOLIDATION
I received an odd call this evening from private number. The lady was very nice, friendly and professional. She explained that she was calling on behalf of Premier Savings Bank and if I qualified they could help me consolidate my credit cards to a lower rate. Once I appeared interested, she said that she would be hanging up and then an account manager would call me with the details. A few minutes later, as promised a very friendly, professional man named Brian McGowan called me. (They called me on my unlisted home phone number which is listed on the do not call registry!) I listened to his sales pitch which sounded way too good to be true. He was offering me 7.9% fixed rate with a one time fee of $439 to transfer 4 credit card balances to their account. IHe explained how in 5-7 days I would receive a transfer packet in the mail for this process and that I could fax or mail the form in and then it would take 10 days for the balances to be transferred. I asked him, why in the world would the banks offer this when they are all raising their rates and fees. He mumbled some answer and tried to push me forward with agreeing to do this. I told him that if he would give me his number, I needed to discuss with my spouse and would do some research and call him back. IMMEDIATELY, his tune changed. He tried to get me to give him a credit card number to bill the fee to or my checking account and I said no, I had no idea who he really was as HE called ME. He now became even more upset and tried to explaining to me how I have a 90 day recission period to dispute a charge if I was not satisfied. I told him, no I did not think that was correct if I authorize him to charge me for this product. He then tried to convince me that even if I used my credit card in a restaurant, I had no idea where the numbers were going from there. Long story short, I am glad that I have a good gut instinct. I told him that I would call him back if he gave me a number. He told me that he did not understand how I did not want him to help me and said fine, I will call you back tomorrow and you can tell me if you want my help or not. THEN, I came to the internet and researched their name and low and behold, their offer was WAY too good to be true. CONSUMERS BEWARE - THERE ARE SO MANY CON ARTISTS OUT THERE TRYING TO GET US TO FALL PREY. AS IF WE ARE NOT HAVING ENOUGH DIFFICULT TIMES.
