After shopping the closed lot at Prestige GMC - Pontiac on Sunday 3/22/09, I observed on the windshield of two Sierra pickup trucks this advertisement... "$7000 rebate or 0% interest rate"
The following Monday I went to make a cash purchase of one of these trucks, to take advantage of the $7000 rebate... After specifically asking the saleman at least three times, to confirm this offer, he confirmed and even spoke to his manager twice, who also confirmed...
As the deal was about to be written up, I was then informed by the "general manager" that I wouldn't qualify for the $7000 advertised rebate, because I did not have a lease with GM that would expire before October 2009... unfortunately, the same old bait and switch, which was sort of admitted tongue in cheek with a little chuckle... as if to imply "you know how this works...etc"
No mention of this "fine print" (which is not in print anywhere) was ever made prior to the write up of the sale... there is absolutely no way that I or anyone could've known about this, from their advertisements... even the saleman was not aware of this information, which is not advertised or posted anywhere on the vehicles or even on the premises...
Needless to say, I was "ambushed" at the last minute, as is so often the case... sadly, this time I thought it really might be different, in light of the urgent need to survive these difficult market conditions...
I don't plan to change to a foreign automaker, but this is a major reason why so many others have...
It remains "business as usual" at least at this dealership... at least for as long as they remain in business...
