If you try to leave them they threaten you!
My 85 year old Dad decided that he did not like Prevention Magazine and did not renew the subscription. We sent the renewal offering back with the word cancel on it. We did the same with the second renewal offering. He received a letter from a collection agency yesterday threatening him for non payment of $17.94 for a subscription he was even curtious enough to spend the postage on twice to say no thanks anymore! Unbelievable! I did other research and I guess this is the way they do business, if you try to leave them they threaten you!

charged for but did not order
Prevention Magazine, Harpers Bazaar, and Shape sent me magazines I did not ask for. It being the end of the month and funds are low, between the three of them they overdrew my bank account. Prevention said Magazine Rewards is responsible so I am trying to call them. There must be thousands and thousands of people they've done this to. Could'nt there be a class action lawsuit or something?

Trying to make me pay for a magazine I never ordered
It seems Prevention Magazine is up to their old scams. I've never ordered the magazine in my life. I just started receiving it one day out of the blue. Every single time I threw it directly in the trash. Recently, Prevention/Rodale has been leaning on me hard saying I owe them money. They're sending me collections notices! Why doesn't any government agency shut them down???? This is a long-time, prevalent, illegal scam. See references:

After many complaints (both telephonic and emails), I finally received some sort of contact from Rodale suggesting that Prevention would no longer be pursuing me:

Being shakedn down by a collection agcy for a mag I never ordered.
I have never ordered or subscribed to Prevention Magazine. But I seem to get it anyway. Goes right in the trash. Today I received a letter from a collection agency (RMCB) that I owe money for my subscription. I called the number on the notice and I reached someone in subscriptions for Prevention Magazine in India. She told me that she could suspend my subscription but not cancel it because it had already been paid for by RMCB. She gave me a phone number for them which they of course do not answer. Their outgoing message says that they're in Colorado, not New York. And it also says not to worry, that I'm not being charged for anything. Should I take an answering machine's word for it? This is completely illegal. Why isn't anyone doing anything about it???

Scam
I have always pay my bills on time. Out of the blue, I received a debt collection company threatening me to pay up for subscription to Prevention Magazine which I never renewed after it expired. This is absolutely scam. Normally, a respectable magazine will stop sending magazine once you expired. When I call them, they have the nerve to tell me that I am "automatically" enrolled into the renewal program which I seriously never sign up. I told them that I will not fear to take up legal actions against them if they will not cancel my future subscription and write off my balance. I am not obligated to pay them just because they kept sending their stupid magazine after it expired. Never signed up with prevention magazine unless you decided to pay them until the day you die. They are just mafia who try to bully you to buy their magazine. I wish some media/news will pick up this new so that they will not victimize others.

Scam artists
While filling out an interests listing on the internet, I checked personal health and diet I believe. Somehow I began getting Prevention Magazine. I then starting getting it in the mail...didn't know why at the time. Then I started getting bills and threatening collection notices. I mailed it back after paying initially...saying CANCEL...but now I'm still getting the magazine.
I looked on line as to how to cancel-but it indicates I must know what company initiated the subcription...GOSH, I don't want it!!!

Fraud and cheating
I too received the notice to 'do nothing' AND have my subscription Magazine AUTOMATICALLY RENEWED. I didn't want to keep the subscription, so I called the number they list to cancel - 800-813-8070 and just like other consumers, every time I called, it rang busy. And I called literally 45 times! So, I did a search about canceling Prevention Magazine and found this site. That's when I learned that others had the same issue.
I decided I wasn't going to go down without a fight. I located Prevention Magazine's customer service phone # (610) 967-8527 and called them to cancel. I was on hold for about 8 minutes, but finally reached 'Julie' and was able to rectify this situation. After I was satisfied that my sub had been canceled, I complained to Julie about the constantly busy phone number. She said she'd have someone look into that line. I highly doubt anything will change, but at least if anyone else runs into the same problem and are able to track down this website, they can use the number above to cancel their sub.
BAD, BAD business practice! No wonder magazines are shutting down left and right.

Fraud and cheating
I wish I read all your reports before I sent this card they lured me with, honestly I don't even remember if I agreed to subscribe to this pathetic magazine or not, but I do remember they promised to send 3 free reports of interest to me (well, you guessed right - weight loss, etc.), so I thought - $11.98 is ok, I'll read this magazine and cancel if I don't like it.
Instead of 3 free reports they sent me their magazine and free report on diabetics! Thanks a lot! I called them, and waited for my reports, but as you know, what follows - collection agency North Shore in a period of 14 (!!!) days. Their ( Prevention) invoice was of 12/16/2008, North Shore Agency request for payment was of 12/30/2008.
Like the only thing to do in December, 2008 is to dispute with Prevention magazine and Rodale, Inc. I don't care much about $11.98, but it's a matter of principle - they are scam and I refuse to pay a penny to them.

Prevention Magazine - North Shore Agency scam
I received a request for payment from North Shore Agency, Inc. stating their client, Prevention Magazine, had not received a payment for a subscription they claim I ordered. I have never ordered a subscription to Prevention Magazine. I will not pay for something I did not order. Any suggestions on how to best handle this? I do not want this to show up on my credit report. Thanks.

Threatening letters of collection
I had a subscription to this magazine that expired last year. I have cancelled this subscription several times. I continue to get letters threatening "my good standing" with the publisher. I have been assured via email that my account is cancelled and I continue to get the harassing "IMMEDIATE PAYMENT REQUIRED" invoices. Every time I get one, I contact the company again only to be advised that my account has been cancelled and to "disregard any further invoices". It seems that they do not have any communications within their company because I have now received an "immediate payment required" invoice that threatens to turn me over to North Shore Collection Agency. How do I prevent this when no one communicates?
