We've written customer service, emailed them & called for almost 4 months now, and they, for some inexplicable reason, refuse to respond in any manner to answer our questions.
Here is the content of my last letter to them, which will explain everything:

Re. Metamucil “sugar free”
For several months, I have been emailing one of your online representatives by the name of “Mary”. I have asked her numerous times about “why” there is a maximum limit on daily dosage. Specifically, what would or could happen if I take more than recommended. She seems to stubbornly and purposely avoid my question about the consequences, if any. She writes that I should consult my doctor about this question. Well, I did ask my doctor and he said he did not know but that an excessive over dose would most likely do the opposite of its intended purpose. He said I should contact you. She keeps saying that I should take no more than 3 teaspoons per day, but that I can take more than 1 teaspoon per individual dosage, but not go over the 3 teaspoons per day. I have been taking 1 table spoon twice a day and it seems to work fine for me. If you don’t think I should take more than recommended, then why don’t you just advise me of the consequences so that I can understand and thereby adjust my usage? The limitations and reasons are not apparent and I cannot understand the reasons. Have I been hurting myself, and will have some adverse consequence as a result? Please help me understand.
We use your product daily and have been for years. We’ve had problems with your online reps in the past and at this point, I have this vague negative feeling about Metamucil and I am frustrated. Why don’t you just answer my question? I don’t expect you to tell me that it’s OK to take more than recommended, but rather the “whys” of why I shouldn’t.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Don Simms"
