Wow - this is one endless scam!!! I purchased a Fantom 2TB hard disk at buy.com Dec. 2010. I sent in the rebate and tracked it through promoprocess.com. That was 6 month ago, and promoprocess.com now claims they are waiting for funds from the manufacturer.
This is a nasty scam - manufacturers know that many buyer don't send in the rebate. So, they get the extra sales volume and then try to minimize the pay out: they'll do anything to get you, the buyer to give up: make the forms hard to decipher; delay processing; mail bad checks, etc. It's like car manufacturers figuring out that not issuing a recall will cost less than the few lawsuits they lose.
There are 3 culprits cooperating in the unholy scheme: the manufacturer (Fantom), the store (buy.com), and the rebate processor (promoprocess.com). Each one points a finger at one of the others!!! I suspect the manufacturer is the main offender here, but this is clearly a case of "it takes 3 to scam"
Hopefully some attorney will launch a class-action lawsuit. I don't like attorneys very much but it seems that's the only way these companies eventually listen!
Now you can vote Republican in the next elections and then we'll lose even this last option!!
