False Bank Drafts
My daughter joined Purefitness in phoenix in August of 2010. My mother paid her membership in full for 18 months. Since she enrolled Pure Fitness has drafted $101 dollars from my mothers account. They will not refund the first two $19 drafts because they merged with LA Fitness and they keep saying they will refund the other money but instead of refunding the money they keep taking more. We have talked to four people about this problem we keep moving up in the chain of comand but we finally got to the top and were told we would not be getting a refund! As of December 28th 2010 we have no credits no sign of them stopping the bank drafts and have been baically told too bad!

Cancellation impossible
My husband and son joined Pure Fitness. After 9 months my husband called to cancel membership. They wouldn't take cancellation over the phone. He went in. They tried to strong arm him into continuing. He did not. They wouldn't cancel my son's, even though it was being charged to our credit card, until he came in a told them he wanted to cancel. He did. They never stopped charging him and 3 months later we called about it and they said he had to sign a cancellation agreement. He went in again. Filled it out and signed it. It is clearly labeled cancellation agreement. He listed all the reasons he was canceling. The place where he was shown to sign it says he has connected with an Employee and advised to the benefits, , etc., etc., sign here, which he did. It is buried in this paragraph that they say he is continuing his membership! They continued to charge him (me, actually) for another year and a half. THis form titled CANCELLATION AGREEMENT IS CLEARLY meant to be MISLEADING!! THey refuse to give us a refund. Needless to say, my son has only been there in the last year and a half to cancel it

Awful service
That's right. Pure Fitness uses their "personal trainers" to go out and actually recruit members from stores and shops in the vicinity of their gyms. They seek out women, and since these trainers are usually large, muscular men, they intimidate their prey into signing up for a membership which they claim is not a contract. Guess what. It is.
Once I became aware that I was contractually obligated to pay Pure Fitness $66 per month for a year, I was pretty upset. This "personal trainer" (read used-car salesman) had smooth-talked my wife into signing up for what he called a "month to month" membership. He specifically said it was not a contract. He even had the audacity to tell her that because I am a military veteran, I would get a discounted rate. All lies!
When my wife called to try to cancel our membership, she was stonewalled by a number of rude receptionists, but she finally got to talk to a company accountant, who for her part was polite and helpful. She admitted that many customers had made similar complaints about the exact same employee who signed up my wife. Supposedly my account was canceled because I am a military veteran and it was wrong for them to lie to my wife about the discounted rate and "month to month" membership. I just got a bill the other day for another month of service. And so the battle continues...

Rip-off
Dec. 4th. 2008 I had stopped by Pure Fitness 91st. Ave. & Northern to check out their facility. At that time I was looking for something closer to home. The facility was not
ready to open and was under construction. I met with a fellow named Shane. He took me through the building and explained the programs. At that time I told him all I was
interested in was the use of equipement as I had already been through the programs at Golds Gym. At that time I explained that it was to close to the holidays and that my
credit card was over its limit. We filled out a membership form and I told him at the time I was not ready to join and would come back after I paid down on my card. He asked for twenty dollars to hold the membership discount. I charged it, not even knowing if that would be accepted. It went through. I left there with the understanding that I would return later after the first of the year to join. For a couple of months I had put this project on the back burner. Money was still a problem, I had just retired and was having a hard time making ends meet. Feb. 2009 I placed a hold on my card to curb my spending habbits. Shortly there after I receive a notice from a collection company,
ABC Financial Services. At first I thought it was just a mistake and threw it away. The following month the same, I called them and told them that there was some kind of
mistake and that I wasn't a member of Pure Fitness. The following month again, and again I called and explained the above Dec. 4th. outcome. May I started getting calls
from ABC, everyday, none stop. This time I went to Pure Fitness and told them to get it cleared up. At this time there had never been any mention that I was a member. I never received a notice in the mail or a membership card, not even a call from these people. I had previously understood this would be taken care of later at my choosing. I had never stepped foot into Pure Fitness since 12/4, or used any of their equipement. This should have sent up a red flag for these people and contact me, nothing. While at
Golds Gym they would call you bi-weekly with programs or just to see how you were doing. From these people nothing ? Last week the straw broke the camels back, one to many calls from ABC. I went back through my credit card records and was amazed to find that 4 weeks after 12/4 they charged my card. The 20.00 on 12/4 to retain the
discount cost, another 174.30 on 12/31, 2/06 another 25.28 and again 2/16 10.28. I went back to Pure Fitness and told them I never gave them the OK to go ahead and that at the time (12/4) I told Shane I would come back later. They told me there was no notations on the membership form and that I had signed it, and they were in there
right to do so, 4 weeks later? I told them we could resolve this by refunding those charges. They told me no way. I believe their rep ( Shane ) went ahead with this membership to claim a commission at my cost. To this date, June 30th. I have never used any part of this facility from 12/4. I had never been told that I was a member or
received anything in the mail to such. Had I been notified early on I probably would be using this this Fitness center and we wouldn't be at this point. In face of this I wouldn't
use this facility now even if they gave me a free lifetime membership, this is appalling.

accounting flaws
Pure fitness entered the wrong expiration date on my membership then started calling me and asking about late dues and added fees for being overdue. I have gone to the gym and they look up my account and keep telling me sorry it will be corrected. 42 days later when I go to the gym and swipe my membership card it says (see manager) they advise me I, m overdue then I explain and they confirm but nothing is getting resolved I also get members calling me at home to collect. DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM THEY USE A 3RD PARTY ACCOUNTING COMPANY ABC FINANCIAL AND ARE A NIGHTMARE TO RESOLVE ANYTHING
