I called Qwest in late December to order DSL only. The representative told me there was a deal to add local phone service for $1 for one year. I then received a bill for $119 including over $90 for the phone service. While I stopped the phone service, they are continuing to charge me for the service up until that time stating there is no such special. I have reqested tapes of the call.
Their bills are near impossible to read, adding and crediting charges without much explanation of why.
The DSL bill has been all over the map starting at $14.99, then $44.99, then $49.99. I've spent over 13 hours of time trying to sort this out. Two modems didn't work and I spent 4 hours on the phone with their technical support; I used an old modem left in the house I live in. Twice I was hung up on in th middle of conversations with customer service reps. A billing clerk called in my second month and said she straightened it all out...future bills negated what she told me.
The OR PUC is involved and are getting no where. Qwest only apologizes for the confusion of the $1 promotion but tells me I need to pay for service at whatever price they put on my bill and take no responsibility for their employees actions.
I'm now filing with the OR Attorney General's office but don't expect much. Qwest is a prime example of monopoly thinking.
