Warranties with products
Do not purchase warranty with any product at Radio Shack. The warranty company will find some reason to not repair or replace. And Radio Shack does not care about the service that they give or the warranty company is giving. They just try to sell you something that is worthless. I was informed that by a store manager. I was sold the warranty with this big sales pitch, then when i needed it. It was a scam.

Employee Incompetence
While visiting the Radio Shack store in the Green Acres Mall this past weekend, my boyfriend and I noticed a sign for a cordless phone which was on sale for a limited time. The phone was a Radio Shack brand two handset unit that was on sale for $29.99. The sign for the phone listed that it was equipped with a digital answerer and that phone messages could be checked both from the unit and remotely. I called one of the employees and asked if the unit had an answering machine. He said no, and then stated that the sign said digital answerer not digital answering. When asked what exactly digital answering meant he responded by shrugging his shoulders and stating "I don't know." He then proceeded to stare at me for about 30 seconds until I asked him if he was going to ask any of the other associates or a manager to obtain an answer to a CUSTOMER'S question. He jumped as if he was startled, said ok and walked over to another associate who was busy helping a customer. He waited there for about two minutes until he realized that the other associate was busy and would not turn around. Not once did the associate that was 'helping' (please note that I am using the word in the loosest sense possible here) me say anything. Not 'excuse me' or 'can I ask you a question', nothing. He then proceeded to do the same thing with two other associates who were helping other customers. My boyfriend and I were then shocked to silence when he began repeatedly walking in a circle between the three other associates while waiting for them to finish up with their own customers so that he could ask his question. He then walked to the back of the store. He was out of sight for about 1 minute. When he came back, he had the nerve to say, "I asked everyone in the store, and no one knows what that is." When I asked him how it was possible that none of the Radio Shack employees could know what it was when the phone was the store's brand, he just shrugged, said have a good day and walked away. I have never witnessed such blatant incompetence by an employee before and hope that I will never have to again.

Lack of service
I brought a cell phone charger and adapter. The sales clerk tried on the adapter to my phone, said it worked and I brought it. When I got back to work the adapter was not in the plastic box nor the end of the charger. I immediately called back to the store. The clerk said okay bring it back. I work and live on the other side of town and was not back that way for a week. When I took it end they said they could not give me a refund because the adapter was missing. The clerk was there, he remembered the call but they still refused the refund.

Bad service
I'm really disappointed of my bad experience with the Radio Shack Customer Service. I sent my MP4 Creative Zen for Service at Radio Shack, the customer service specialist made sure to write in the receipt describing the device status that it only had little few scratches on the screen, when I received it at the store after being served, it had scratches at the back. The wearied thing that the customer service specialist was wondering why I’m upset "it's not that difficult" he sad and I refused to receive the Mp4. I told him that the reference document in this case is the original receipt describing the status of the device when I did deliver it to the store
The funny thing is that I’m the Executive Director of a consulting firm working in the field of upgrading companies using SIX SIGMA Methodologies, in our trainings we always use examples of companies in the size of Radio Shack describing how they are customer oriented and data driven.
Well, I live in Egypt, the customer service specialist's name is Ramy the store is located at Roushdy - Alexandria the receipt number is 68154

Sales scam
Bought an Acer Laptop under the assumption that it was a 6 month plan, with no payments, no interest, no finance charge. As long as you paid it off in 6 months, great deal? WRONG!! Next thing I knew, I was receiving a payment schedule with a minimum payment of $14.00 a month on a 1 year plan at 28% interest. What do they think I am Stupid??? Also, was given wrong $150 rebate address!!! What is this a rent to own business? I quit paying on the laptop because the value went away on the $549 laptop. Tried to take it back, SOORRRY! It's been too long, bend over! I don't think so! Any Lawyer's out there???

Their service center destroyed my turntable
On March 6, 2008, I took my Lafayette professional grade turntable to the Radio Shack store in Casa Grande, AZ, and paid a $20 deposit. I later received a phone call from the service center in Murray, Utah, and was informed the phono cartridge replacement would be about $51, in addition to the deposit.
Some time later, I got a call from the store in Casa Grande that my turntable was back. I went in to pick it up and almost had a heart attack. My $200 to $300 turntable was a jigsaw puzzle. The plastic dust cover was broken, the counterweight had been removed from the tone arm, the turntable itself was off of the base, and the tone arm was under the turntable.
The manager of the store told me how he had packed the turntable for transport to the shop and it was reasonable. The manager of the shop claimed the unit had arrived damaged. Not from the way it was packed, it wasn't. The manager of the store was fantastic, he did everything he could to try to get the unit to work, but it would not play a record.
It was sent back to Murray, UT, and here it is, April 21, and still no word from the shop. All the turntable needed was a phono cartridge, and I trusted Radio Shack, as there is no other electronics service shops in our county. A phono cartridge and a foot. They said they could not find a foot, but I said that is no biggie, I have a few ways I can go on that. How hard is it to install a phono cartridge? Is it necessary to tear a machine to pieces to replaces a cartridge? I think not.

Bait and switch and false requirements!
I attempted to purchase a prepaid cell phone from Radio Shack. I was told I had to show the clerk my ID to enter my information for the cell phone. I reminded the clerk it was pre paid and I didn't want my information placed into his computer, which he said was for the phone. I told him no and he said I could not purchase the phone (even though I was paying with a credit card) the clerk then went on to tell me it was California law to show ID for all pre paid cell phone purchases. I found this is a lie and he was only attempting to add another person to Radio Shacks list. I was denied the purchase of the phone and told he would require a copy of my license if I changed my mind. I was shocked and I have to let people know what practices Radio Shack is using, I will NEVER shop there again. Also the clerk took down the advertisement which included free minutes on the phone when he could not figure out how to ring it up, all round horrible experience that day.

Radio Shack Employee Dropped and Broke Personal property (GPS)
I went to your store in Grapevine Texas. (Grapevine Mills Mall) I went in to find a usb adapter for my GPS unit. I handed it to the employee by the name of Trey. He then dropped it on the floor!!! His statement was "it will be okay, you can't get a signal in here anyway since we have a copper roof here." He did not find a adapter for my GPS, but then tried to sell me a card reader! I told him I didn't need one, I have one already. My husband and I left the mall at that point. I took my GPS out of my purse, connected it to the window/dash, plugged in the DC adapter, turned it on and it was on a screen showing the location of the mall....the words "Grapevine Mills" (Street/Lane/Road), which of course is where he dropped it!!! I thought that while driving it would change but it didn't. I turned it off to reset it. I left it off for 5-10 minutes several times while taking my 45 minute drive home and it still was stuck on that screen!!! I took the SD card out hoping that would help, it didn't. When we got home, I called the store back and spoke with the employee Trey. He told me that he was sorry he dropped it, but that I needed to call the manufacturer of the GPS for assistance since this was not a brand that Radio Shack carries and that he could not assist me. He made it seem that it was my fault!!! I advised him that I was not the one that dropped it and it had never been dropped and was working perfectly before I even entered the store!!! I just wanted the adapter so I could download the updated maps. He then said he could not help me and hung up. Seriously furious at this point, I called the Radio Shack Customer Service number 800-843-7422 and was told by that person that they could not help me and that I would have to call again tomorrow due to them being in Florida and that they could not assist me since they only handle web problems and this was very unfortunate and he knows that Radio Shack would make this right and replace my GPS. And, this was "customer service" not being able to help??? Anyway, I then called my local store here in Mansfield. (This is the store I normally go to and trust) I spoke with Aaron, the manager, and explained what had happened. He couldn't believe how I have been treated and gave me the phone number to a District Manager named Ken Bowers and a Tina Gustin at 972-399-8700. He also advised that Risk Management should be notified so this can be taken care of as soon as possible. Since this happened after business hours Thursday January 3, 2008, no one could do anything. I am very upset because this salesperson at your store basically blew me off and broke my GPS. HE DROPPED AND BROKE MY GPS, I didn't do it, he did and he is refusing to take any responsibility!!!

Virgin Mobile Top Up service refusal!
I have been going to Radio Shack to have my cell phone topped up for three months now. Every time I top up, a particular girl helps me to add $40 to my cell phone account. No problem. Yesterday, July 16, 2007, 2:30 PM, I go in to top up my cell phone and she is not there. The representative behind the counter says he can only top up either $10, $30 or $50. I tell him I need only $40. He looks at me and says, "Like I said..." and repeats himself. I said, "Well, the other girl has been adding $40 to my account every month and that is what I need to cover my charges of $34.99 including taxes. $50 would be too much." Mind you, I am being nice to this gentleman and only trying to explain my needs exactly as I have phrased them here. He throws his hands up in the air, stands back from his register and with a sweeping gesture of his right arm towards his computer, yells, "Would you like to come back here and show me how to do my job!!!" I was horrified. I just looked at him and calmly said, "You don't have to be rude. You may not know how to enter $40, but the other girl does." and I walked out. I went home and called Virgin Mobile who confided that what the girl was doing was adding two $20 Top Ups to my account each month. Why couldn't he have done the same or offered that? I am still embarrassed every time I think of how he treated me.

Very poor service!
On Monday July 9th 8:13 pm, my husband went to Radio Shack in Big Rapids, to purchase a cord for our computer, after asking the clerk Christina, if this cord was compatible for our computer, she assured he that it was what he need. He spend or $40.00 for this item, only to get it home, and it was not what we needed. I tried to return it today, and met a Clerk Christina, and told her I would like to return the item, which was unopened... She said I could not return it, because she accused me of it being opened. Then she took it to the back room, and after returning back to the front desk the item, was then not looking the same as I brought it back into the store, they had opened it in the back room, and then the clerk Christina returned back to the front, and again accused me of opening the item, and said it could not then be returned if opened. I again stated it had not been open, and that she was blindly calling me a liar. The mgr. then came out and claim the same that it had been opened, that was after the fact the employee to the item to the back room, and brought it back out, differently as I brought it in to return it. I'm furious that this company Radio Shack in Big Rapids Michigan, not only accused me of doing something that I didn't do, and would not refund my money. I will NEVER but from this store again. This is steeling from the consumer. I owe retail businesses, and the customer is always right. It is apparent that the only way Radio Shack is still in business, is because it pisses off its buying customers, and steals their money. Both the MGR, and Employee need to be fired from Big Rapids Radio Shack.
