R&L required a $250 deposit then half of the total estimated cost PRIOR to moving. I faxed 2 separate credit card authorizations, one for the deposit and one for $1300 to cover the rest of the half. When R&L picked up my belongings they told my husband and me that the credit card authorization was null and void, that they would not run the credit card and needed half of the total cost that day either in cash or check. A few days after the check that was written cleared they then charged the credit card $1300 despite adamantly stating that the credit card WOULD NOT BE CHARGED!!! When I asked Ron (the customer service rep) from R & L Moving Systems about it he said that the $1300 credit card charge would be applied to the balance. I'm assuming that this tactic was used to ensure payment despite not receiving all promised services.
1. Instead of charging on a per item basis as discussed with Ron in detail, they charged based on cubic feet which resulted in over a $1000 underestimation. When Ron the owner was asked about it he stated that he would look into it and call back and despite several phone calls I have yet to hear from anyone.
2. As they were pulling away from the driveway I realized that there was an entire closet full of boxes that they stated that they would return for the next day before 9am. They decided not to load up the closet full of boxes at that time due to it being after 2am and my neighbors were complaining about the noise of the deisal engine that had been on the entire move. They showed up the next day at 3:30.
3. I was charged extra to box and take "special care" of a series of canvas paintings that were just put together and wrapped with moving tape.
4. I was told that my kitchen chairs would be wrapped in moving blankets, they were not and now all 6 kitchen chairs are dented, severely scratched and 2 of them have had the leather seat part ripped.
5. One mattress wasn't wrapped in anything despite being charged extra to do so.
6. EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF WOODEN FURNITURE IS NOW SEVERELY SCRATCHED, DENTED AND 2 NIGHTSTANDS HAVE HAD LEGS BROKEN OFF.
7. The owner promised that R&L Moving Systems is not a broker, would not sub-contract any portion of the move and would be responsible for my belongings the entire move. Upon delivery, the movers dropping off my belongings were indeed subcontracted.
8. 3.5 months later and SEVERAL attempts to speak with someone regarding the extra charges for services not rendered, the underestimate by $1000 and my house full of furniture that is ruined, I still haven't heard back from a representative from R&L moving.
