Be careful when buying rapid share accounts from so called resellers. Those familiar with rapid share account should know that rapid share provides an “Account setting” lock feature. As per this feature a user is allowed to set a separate password which will lock his account settings. Whenever the user wants to change the account setting he/she will have to provide the password. This is to prevent hackers from hijacking accounts.
Rapidhsare “account setting” consists of 2 main fields, one is the password and one is the email address registered for the user.
Recently i bought a rapidshare account from a dealer (SyN3rGy T3cH) here at Erodov, who claimed to be a genuine rapidshare reseller selling genuine rapidshare accounts. Unfortunately after purchasing the account i realized that he had given me an account that had its “Account Setting” locked. When i asked him for the password he said that he would not give me the details as the same was kept with him for security reasons and that if i wanted to change anything i should send him a message and he would make the necessary changes.
This set off alarm bells in my head because this was not mentioned in the initial sale post. On further investigation I realized that the account was registered to someone else. The account lock setting only prevents you from changing the settings; it does not prevent you from looking at the settings. I noticed that the email address set in the account setting was that of a UK based address.
I further reviewed the Rapidshare logs (again another splended feature provided by rapidshare to see if your account is being used by anyone else, it basically records the ip address from which the account was used). Here I found activity in the account from 2008 indicating that it definitely was not a new account. I also noticed that the account was being accessed from another set of ip addresses. I traced the ip addresses and found that it belongs to a user on the BskyB network in UK. This user in UK was accessing the account even after the dealer sold me the account.
I am not sure of is if the UK based user is part of the scam or also a victim. I think he is part of the scam but I am not sure.
Now my problem is I have paid this dealer the money for a year account and i am stuck with a fraud account.
I brought this to the attention of the modes and they took immediate action by closing the sale thread and making the dealer commit to give me the “Account Setting” password. But unfortunately he is not responding to my PMs or giving us the password. But even if he did give me the password this will not help me because:
1. Once i get the password and change the password and email address of the account, the UK user will get locked out and he will file a complaint with Rapidshare
2. Rapidshare will return the account to him if he can produce proof of payment to rapidshare (which I am sure he will since he is the original owner of the account). I on the other had stand accused of hacking/using a hacked account since I don’t have any proof of payment to Rapidshare. All I have is a proof of payment to the so called dealer which doesn’t mean anything to rapidshare since he is actually not an authorized dealer.
I am not sure how to get my money back as the dealer is not responding to my PMs... I have learnt my lesson the hard way... I hope you guys learn from my experience.
