3 free gifts
got a postcard (with my current Reader's Digest) that says "3 Free Gifts are waiting for you. claim then today at www.readersdigest.com/myfreegifts" but that web site ONLY wants to sell you additional subscription of the magazine - NO mention whatsoever of my 3 free gifts - where they are, what they are, or how to claim them - this is VERY deceptive !!

STEALING IDENTITY
I received in the mail a letter from Reader's Digest. The letter came in a plain white envelope, post marked from Canada. It also had a check in it for $3, 481.10. The check was made out from AIG Annuity Insurance Company The letter said I had won a lump sum payout of $255, 069.00. The check I received was to cover any charges that may be required befor I recive my funds. It was singed by Jonathan Walsh, Prize Disbursement. Nice pictuer of him too. To receive my funds I was to contact Paul Givon or Erika Cohn at 1-912-480-0353 to activate my claim before I deposit the check in my bank. When I called the man was very Vague about how I won the money. He said I had to put the check in my bank and then call him back. At that point he would get the information he need to put the rest of the money into my account. Big Red Flag went up in my head. I looked Reader's Digest up on the internet. Checked for Sweepstakes rip off and found out the letter was a rip off. My big concern is people who would take this serious and not think to look in to it before they put the money in the bank.

Junk Mail Sold Information
My mom bought me a subscription in December. Several weeks later, I started receiving a flood of junk mail from third parties. The reason I know it was RD is because they spelled my name incorrectly both on my RD subscription and on every piece of junk mail. It is now mid-April and I am still receiving 4 or 5 pieces of junk mail a week. I called 10 of the companies and now write "return to sender" on my mail. In addition, I have gone to catalogChoice.org and selected some to remove my name from. Not all the companies are listed, however. Has anyone had this problem and what was their solution? Is it even legal for RD to sell my information since I personally never signed an agreement form for this?

Sending items saying free; then billing for them.
I received via mail a box containing 3 books. On the cover of the box was a statement that the books were free. Later on I received a bill for the books. I have not ordered any books from Reader's Digest; therefore, I don't believe that I should pay them for what they said was free. I would have returned them to sender if that statement had not been on the box. I believe that they are practicing fraud via the U. S. Mail.
