Restaurant.com Certificates
I just want to say that to actually complain about restaurant.com only indicates how stupid you actually are. That is a great program and there is NO scam involved at all. It is a simple and straightforward program. Everything you need to know about how to use the certificates or gift cards can be found on the website, if you can read that is. The only requirement is that you can actually comprehend what you read, its not rocket science people. First when you purchase the certificate it clearly states beside the price the restrictions that the restaurant itself wants placed on that particular certificate. It also states that you can only use 1 certificate per restaurant per month which means you can use a different certificate at a different restaurant each night just not the same restaurant in a 30 day period. Like I said its not rocket science it just takes people who can read and comprehend what is right in front of their eyes. Also, the certificates NEVER expire and you can ALWAYS call them and change restaurants for ANY reason as long as you have not used the certificate already. No, I dont work for them I just love their program and it has given me and my family a chance to eat at places we could never afford to eat. Naturally the idiots out there who always want something for nothing or who are not happy unless they are complaining about something are trying to ruin it for the rest of us smart people. So quit trying to get everything for free and learn to read!!!

gift certificate
I can't believe all the bad experiences. I and many friends I have referred to restaurant.com have had excellent experiences. At the typical 80% off, I buy a $25 gift certificate for $2. I typically have to spend at least $35, so for a total investment of $12, I get $35 worth of food at restaurants near me that belong to the program. I guess from many comments there is a misunderstanding - you print the actual certificate on your own computer. The whole process takes a little getting used to, but once you are in to the program it works great. I have used dozens of the certificates with never a problem. Too bad that on this site about all you read is the bad news, which I am sure is far outweighed by the good news.

scam
To whom it may concern at Restaurant.com,

I just wanted to take a few minutes, and let you know I will never be using your service again. When I purchased “gift certificates” from you, I was under the impression they were just that, a set value to be redeemed at a business. In reality, I purchased coupons from you, that have a nice list of strings attached, such as not to be used on weekends, no happy hour, not to be used on days that have sporting events, dine in only, not to be used on beverages, etc ad nauseum. I have tried to get a few people together to use some of the larger COUPONS I purchased, but it is a tough sell on a Tuesday or Wednesday night, after happy hour, as long as there isn’t a sporting event going on in Seattle.

Admittingly, I didn’t read all of the fine print on your web site, and don’t expect a refund for not reading the entire terms of service, for each of the restaurants I was looking to try.

So, the only recourse I have, is to print these up, try to enjoy the meal, then let management know that although I came in with one of your coupons, I would have tried them anyways, and that I won’t return until they stop using your service.

I do commend you however on an excellent, yet hopefully short lived business model.

Best regards,

G****

Scam
This company is a scam to both small businesses and consumers. Restaurant.com does not reimburse it's restaurant/ bar partners and will continue to sell coupons against the restuarant/ bar owner's will. A consumer can purchase a coupon to a restaurant that does not participate or conduct business with restaurant.com. Restaurant.com does not offer any refunds for the coupon purchased by the customer nor tell the customer the truth about why they are selling coupons for restaurants that do not conduct business with them which makes the restaurant look like a crook. I would be careful if you decide to purchase coupons off restaurant.com. Double check the authenticity of the coupon and call the restaurant first hand and ask if they participate with this shady company before making any purchases from these vultures.

FRAUD
Like many, many people have already said this is a total scam! When I agreed to buy these certificates it was stated as $50 worth of certificates for $20. Upone buying them this number changed to $80 worth for $50. Well, once eating out I realized it was pretty much retail with lower quality food. We tried this new place for the first time and would not go back. We ended up paying $25 more ($75 total) for the same sushi dinner we normally get for $50 retail. They should realize the point to them is to get new customers, but even they did not get it. Don't waste your money. Use a coupon or pay retail, as we ended up doing. Do not waste your money!

fraud
It sure looks good on the web site.By my complaints were the same. They never tell you you can only use one certificate per month until after you pay. And now I'm stuck with extra certificates for a restaurant i don't like. They also ad 20% gratuity to the bill. So you really aren't making out that well.

Restaurant.com is not a scam, it's the few small restaurant owners
restaurant.com is not a scam It's the few restaurant owners that give it a bad experience for a few consumers. Instead of paying for traditional advertising, owners allow a discount on their meals. You agree to let restaurant.com advertise your business and for them to keep whatever cost of the certificate the consumer pays as payment for that advertising. The consumer abides by the terms on the certificate, minimum purchase, exception days, etc.

And then you complain when people come into use them. Or you now decise to no longer accept them, worse yet after the patron has eaten and deman full payment. Instead of accepting the certificate happily, you provide the customer with a bad experience. Now the chances are nil that they will ever come back, worse yet they will tell others of their bad experience.

Ironically, bringing in new customers is the effect that this program is suppose to have on your business. But many small owners are short sided and it has the opposite effect.

Gift Certificates
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE.

What a great deal. Give someone a Restaurant.com gift card so they can pick a restaurant and go out for dinner on you... EXCEPT, they will still have to pay to cover the minimum to be able to use the certificate. Advertised as a great gift with no fees and no shipping, but for your recipient to be able to enjoy what you are trying to give them, they have to spend their own money.

This is such a horrible scam, especially for people who are not used to using this site and will be very confused by all the limitations put on them for times and days of use, changing policies, certain products that are not covered and on and on. Even for my wife and I who have used the site, as recipients, we were astonished at the limitations and the fact that the gift given to us still required us to spend money. AND, we could not use the additional 8O% off that we had earned ourselves with the gift we were given, we could only use that on our own additional purchases from them.

If you plan on giving someone one of these as a gift, DON'T, or don't forget to send them the money you saved buying it, else you are forcing the person you give it to to spend their own money also.

Anyone wanting to give someone a meal for a gift is better off contacting the restaurant itself and buying a gift card or certificate directly and having it sent to the recipient. Then you will not be requiring them to spend their own money to enjoy your gift.

We may continue using this service for ourselves once in a while, but it is NOT a service for giving a gift to someone else.
Gifts are supposed to be easy and not cost the recipients. Restaurant.com gifts are just the opposite.

scam
We signed up with Restaurant.com about a month ago under false pretenses. A representative from their company came into our restaurant and reassured us that we were making the right decision to sign up. First, she promised alot of advertising and exposure but all we got were 2 little pictures and customers that tried to get away with paying the minimum. Next, she promised that only 1 certificate per day would be sold but we found out over 175 were sold in less than a month. Next, she said we would get customers that would spend much more than their certificates are worth but all we got were customers that spent the minimum or less even though they know the rules which are clearly stated on the certificate. The only ones that profit here are Restaurant.com. Our restaurant has not made ONE penny from any of the "customers" that have been sent from restaurant.com as a matter of fact we know those customers won't be back unless they have another certificate. We cannot afford to fill our tables with people that come in with a certificate they bought for$10.00, then spend another$10.00 to be at their minimum. At this point I have made $15.00. Oh, the tax goes to the government and the 18% gratuity goes to my server but I still have to cover my food cost, my overhead and servers salary. So, I have just given my food away to a table that won't be back. Currently my attorney is dealing with Restaurant.com. I hope if there are any other restaurants out there that have been lied to, manipulated and SCAMED by Restaurant.com they to will make similar postings.

Scam
This company sells $25 gift certificates for restaurants at a fraction of that price. Problem is, if the restaurant goes out of business before you can use your certificate, they refuse you a refund.

Also, if the restaurant doesn't honor the certificate, the restaurant.com simply shrugs their shoulders. I would not have tried the restaurant I went to if I had not had a certificate. This is a scam to get you to the restaurant thinking you're getting some kind of a deal!

Worse still, the way they've set up their certificates for when you print, the certificate number may or may not appear! Apparently, it's up to the consumer to scour the section meant for the restaurant to make sure that all is as it should be.

This last Saturday night, we were at a restaurant (Ouest) that refused to honor the certificate because the number was missing. Restaurant.com was of no help whatsoever, refused to even refund my money for the certificate.

Buyer beware!
