Our Rinnai tankless water heater, which was purchased December 2004 quit working. The unit costed well over $1800.00 and should last more than 5 years. We contacted the 100% recommended company listed on Rinnai's website, which was the closest to our home. Stass Plumping Co. in Waco, TX. Matt, one of Stass' employees, couldn't fix the unit on site, and said that he neede to take to their shop in Waco. Upon returningwith the unit and re-installing it, we received a bill for $831.93!
I think that our unit was used for training the staff and we were the guinea pig for the company's employees to fix the thing.
A standard high efficeiency water heater would have service us well. The Rinnai unit is too complicated for the recommended "Trained" plumber.
This situation needs to be published. If the consumer purchases the Rinnai Tankless water heater, they can expect a repair bill like this after the warranty runs out!
