Fraud
Riteaway was sent out to replace my water heater via my home warranty company - First American. These companies are in cahoots to rip off consumers. Would not recommend either one, but here's my story. First American Warranty said they would email me the contact information for Riteaway when I called in an emergency request for my leaking water heater. They were supposed to contact me within 3 hours and the service completed within 8 hours but that didn't happen. I had to look up their info on the internet, which is where I initially saw the many complaints against Riteaway. I contacted First American and expressed my concerns but because it was the following day now after my claim was initially posted, they said Riteaway was the only company who could do the service. All I had to pay was a $55 service fee. In a nutshell, the guy, Chris, from Riteaway showed up 15 hours later and said that because my water heater was under manufacturers warranty, that First American would not cover the water heater, nor would they cover the cost of getting the new water heater to my house and the old one hauled away, and on top of that, I had $300 worth of code uprades involved. Once added up, it was going to cost me almost $500 with my home warranty for the replacement of a water heater still under warranty! I called another, highly recommended plumber, not asssociated in any way with First American Warranty, and he said most of what Chris from Riteaway told me was bogus and the home warranty along with their service contractors are a racket. The truly qualified plumber is doing the work for me now, on the spot, at a fraction of the cost, and he is taking away the old water heater and picking of the new one from the manufacturer. Be very careful dealing with either of these companies...Riteaway and First American Home Warranty. Not worth the time or the headache and definitely not worth wasting your money!
