In early June I made a reservation for Saturday, August 4, 2007. As the date approached, I wanted to confirm my reservation. I contacted Riverview Lodge and asked for confirmation of my reservation. I spoke to a man who has a very heavy East Indian or Middle Eastern accent, and was told no reservation was holding. I gave my confirmation number, asked that they checked different spellings of my name. I was told I had no reservation, that maybe I “booked it at another hotel by accident”, or that I booked it “under a different name or spelled it wrong”. I asked this man to e-mail me confirmation that there was no reservation holding, and provided my e-mail address. I never received an e-mail confirming the status of my reservation, or lack thereof.
On Saturday, August 4, 2007 at 9:30 PM, my husband received a phone call from Riverview Lodge, yelling that no one showed up, it was too late to re-book the room, and that we will have to pay. I contacted Riverview Lodge, and spoke to the same man and explained that I had spoken to him two days prior and he had stated there was no reservation holding. Again, I was told that I made a mistake, that maybe I put the reservation under a different name, or that I spelled my last name incorrectly, but that I was responsible. Ignoring how preposterous that was (I know my last name and how to spell it) I stated that we would not pay for a room we did not stay in, especially when we were told we did not have a reservation held. This man at Riverview Lodge yelled in the phone at me “you will pay, I already charged your credit card” and hung up the phone on me.
If you do not want to be lied to, cheated, or treated like a child, do not book this property. Stay in the Dalles, if necessary!!
