Ross Reviews

Dressing Rooms, not enough BIG rooms!
I am writing in complaint to the dressing rooms not having enough space for those of us who have strollers or anyone with a handicap, specifically the Ross store in Jacksonville NC, and how the situation was handled by the manager.
Everytime I want to go try something on, I have to wait outside the large dressing room (which they have only ONE of, and then about 20 or 30 tiny rooms, which more than half goes unused) with my toddler son in his stroller. I end up waiting about 15 to 20 minutes on average while someone takes their time, talks on their cell phone, and simply can not take a hint that someone with an irate toddler is TRYING to patiently wait their turn. They do not need to be in there for any reason aside from the fact that they just feel entitled to the extra space. Not the store's fault though, right? WRONG. Here is why. The larger rooms provided in stores are supposed to be for those with a disability and to those who really NEED the extra space. Usually, said rooms are equipped with a sign letting patrons know that these rooms are intended for just those people. Well this store does not have such a sign. I have suggested that perhaps they should put one up or tear down the many tiny rooms that NOBODY ever, EVER uses and put atleast one more large room in there. A manager told me once that she was personally going to see to it that a sign gets put up. Never happened.
So today I complained about this situation to a manager once again, and this time she told me there is absolutely nothing she can do (to help patrons with strollers or disabilities who really need the extra space) and she actually suggested that I go into the MEN'S dressing room to try on clothing. HOW INSULTING! You really want me to go into a men's dressing room and get naked?! Are you insane? Are you looking for a lawsuit!? All I need is one pervert with a camera phone peeking under the door! Her other suggestion was that I try on clothes in a small room and leave the door open so I could watch my son... how uncomfortable for me! Not an option for me either, sorry. Dressing rooms have doors for a REASON. And that reason is so that you can have your privacy. Men's and Women's dressing rooms are seperate for a REASON, and I shouldn't have to even explain why they are!
I am going to write to corporate and let them know my complaints, and that I will be shopping at Marshall's (TJ Maxx), where their larger dressing room is NEVER occupied except by those who REALLY do need the extra space. If they really do care about each and every one of their shoppers then they should make room for us and make us feel welcome and comfortable in their stores. Not have their managers suggest that a mom and her child go into a men's dressing room to try on clothes because they are too lazy to put a sign up on their dressing room door.

LACK OF STAFFING
I saved $85.00 at Ross yesterday. Or should I say, they lost out on $85.00 of revenue. As I approached the registers, I saw that 11 other people stood in line with only 1 register in use.
When one of the customers asked if any other registers were opening, the response was that the other person was on break.
Ten minutes later, another employee approached the register, walked around for 5 minutes, fiddled with the register for another 5 minutes...I left as did 2 other people in line.

rude manager
i went into the ross store to purchase a pair of shoes. once at the front of the store to be checked out i seen that the line was long and there was only one line open. i over heard the manager calling someone else up to open another register so i moved over so i could go ahead and be checked out. well the manager seen this and instead of allowing me to be checked out he sunt thegirl away and opened a different register and called the next two people in line to be waited on when they were next and took them in front of me. i stood there in awww . he looked at me and said that he was trying to move me up in line but i choose to stay in the back. my response to him was that i was just trying to figure out why would he take them when they were next in line nd he could have just taken the lady in front of me and me . he ten makes a statement to the mexican people nd say it is always my black sister nd brothers who act ugly. my response to him is that he hasn't seen ugly yet. i got so mad with him that i left without purchaseing my shoes. i feel something needs to be done for those racil comments.

Unpleasant Situation
I went to this location during my lunch hour - I found several dresses but when I went to the dressing room I was told that a 2 piece dress/skirt was counted as 2 pieces (total of 8 pieces can be brought into the dressing room). I told the girl she must have misunderstood as that didn't make sense. Anything on 1 clothes hanger should be counted as 1 piece. She said she was just following the rules. A loss prevention guy overheard our conversation and was quick to put me in my place stating that that was the rule and he wasn't professional about it. I tried on the clothes and had to go out of the dressing room 3 times to try everything I had pulled from the rack. Very inconvenient as you have to redress each time you have to return clothes and get some more. I had a total of 8 hangers but because most of them were 2 pieces I had the problem. I then proceeded to check out which was a nightmare! 2 registers open with none of the cashiers in a hurry. Lines were long. I was very happy this store opened on my end of town, but if this is how they take care of their customers and run their stores, I don't know how many more times I will visit.

Bad Customer Service/discrimination
I have visited this store twice in the last month and the black employees there mistreat ethnic people and I will not ever shop here again and spread the word. I witnessed how in one case a Asian lady that was standing in line was asked by a clerk that just opened up her register to come check out. The Clerk Melanie that original would have checked out this customer had a problem with this other clerk asking her to come to her register to check out and the Asian lady was sent back to the back of the original line and a black customer now ahead of her got to check out at the other register. I was glad but surprised to see the Filipino stand up to Melanie by saying " If I was white or black there would not have been a problem and I could have checked out allready with no problems" Melanie then proceeds by making comments to the Filipino lady and made her upset and angry. The Filipino did not want her merchandise anymore and then left while the 3 black employees there laughed at her. The second incident that I witnessed was when a hispanic tried to return a dress or exchange it. The lady had a reciept but apperantly the tag was missing and the black employees and manager gave her such a hard time that it was embarassing that she left the dress she had previously paid for and left the store crying. It is ashame that the black people that work at this Ross location cannot treat all customers with equality.

management problems
I slipped on the waxed floor in the Ross dressing room yesterday. When I spoke to the manager about it, she laughed in my face and refused to look at the floor. This was the store manager! I complained to Tony Deplasco, Larry Bennett and Steve Reed, all Florida regional managers, about compensating me and reprimanding the store manager. I was told off and hung up on by all three men listed above.

Terrible experience
I was not issued a refund and accused of lying of use of product. The product was a pair of shoes I purchase for an interview. The lace broke when I tried to tie the item. When I tried to return the item within one week of purchase the clerk accused me of using the item and refused to accept the return.

The sole of the item was not perfect at the original point of sale yet the manager in more or less words accused me (the customer) of lying and told me I was being done a favor by issuing only a store credit.

There where no other shoes suitable for my interview unfortunately and I was very displeased at the accusation of not telling the truth when in fact I never used the defective merchandise, the sole was worn down yes but possibly in the store by other customers or a return from someone else.

The shoes at the time fit and where affordable and comfortable and to code for their use which was why I purchased and assured they would be usable unfortunately this was not the case. I would like a full refund still and will call visa to report the incident if not addressed by a dm.

The store was store # 251 Chantilly, VA. The Manager who refused to return is Celia Digil. The incident was frustrating and embarrassing to accuse my integrity.

Employment
In the month of August 2008 I submitted a application for employment. A friend of mine told me to call in September since I had'nt heard from them. She is employed their. I called and the hireing manager at the time asked me to come and finish my application process. I filled out a background check paper and finished a multiple choice test. Since I was supposed to start work after but have'nt. The new hiring manager told me that she would contact me today but has'nt. I don't even know if my application was processed due to manager friendly relationships with employees. One of my friends was hired on the day I finished my application and she says I should've started by now!!! The new hiring manager is not the lady who gave me my documents to finish, but is friends with a employee that boyfrienf was sent to jail because of pushing me. I strongly feel that I've been violated to work because of this. The managers name is Bridget. I just would like to know what store policy is after you've done and passed what is required to recieve a job. Should I go to another store where I don't know anyone at and do another application because I feel like Ross is not EOE.
