Being cautious of moving companies I checked several before settling on Royal. The agent came out and explained all the costs and gave me a fair estimate and even personally boxed a thick glass shelf for me. Later that evening he called and said he re-estimated the cost and reduced it by $300.00. He swore that they would pick up on Aug 6 and deliver from California to Idaho between 9 to 16 at latest. They picked up as scheduled but agent himself and two helpers arrived to load. I paid additional insurance fee of $247.00 .
I asked if ins covered owner packing on all items. He assured me that it did.
Late afternoon agent/loader began to whine and complain that I had sneaked a lot more boxes in than estimated and he refused to load 2 large shelf units, and items in a storage closet in the carport. Eventually he left behind boxes which he estimated previously and said he was quiting. He told me to repack everything into larger boxes which he was going to charge me extra for. When I called my lawyer he phoned his boss (Frank) Owner, who told him to repack everything and charge me extra. I refused and threatened to sue him. Consequently he loaded up as much as he could and left me with the remainder.
The load never arrived by the 16 th date and phone calls to the owner were in vain. They refused to take my calls or had a secretary answer and promise to call back or everyone was out or they didn't know where my furniture was. Three weeks later I received a call from Joyce Van Lines out of Colorado that they had the load and would deliver the following morning.
After unloading and discovering damage to many boxes and furniture pieces, I was told by Joyce driver to file insurance claim with Royal and that my load had been sitting in a hot warehouse in the open area with only a tape around it with my name for security for the past 3 weeks.
I called Royal for insurance claim papers, which Frank said I had to get from Joyce because they were the transport responsible. I filed as told and sent them to Joyce which sent them back with instructions to send them to Royal because they were the mover who collected the payment. To date I have not received any compensation or refund of the insurance claim. I was told that the claimwas invalid because I packed myself and if the mover had done the packing it would have been covered! So why did I pay $247.00 for insurance?
Later I discovered that Royal had several law suits against them. They are rude, nasty, lying, and don't ever trust anything they say. Your belongings are not safe in their possession!
