Can anyone let me know what they think of this complaint I have sent to RTE this morning.EG is it awaste of time and money.
Dear Sir/Madam,
Sometime last year I wrote to RTE complaining of a practice being used by them that I strongly feel is a waste of time and money. The complaint was regarding the National Geographic documentaries being screened by RTE Two. The majority of these programmes are being voiced over by a Mr. John McKenna. I don’t know John McKenna from Adam but unfortunately I am familiar with his voice. RTE are ruining these programmes for people. When I complained before, regarding a programme that was voiced by Mr. McKenna the answer I got from RTE was baffling. The programme was called The Eagle Has Landed and in its original format was narrated by Bill Oddie. Now to me Bill Oddie would be very familiar to Irish audiences. Especially those people interested in wild life programmes. But RTE’s explanation was that by doing the voice over they were making the programme more interesting to Irish audiences. What a load of tripe.
Last night (21/10/09) I was watching a prorgramme on RTE Two called Octopus Volcano. Again Mr. McKenna was doing the dreaded voice over. Why? This morning I watched the programme on the Internet and do you know what. I could understand every word the narrator was saying. Again I will say it again RTE are ruining these programmes for people. And more importantly there is no need to be wasting money doing these voice over’s.
Thank you
Neil Carroll
