Owner, also person who towed my husband's car, charged us 175.00 for a simple tow. (Towing service was contacted by police, not us.) Car was not in ditch, damaged or in a difficult spot. Towing service had our car attached to the wrecker and would not give it to my husband unless he paid 175. When questioned later over the phone, owner told me he could not provide an itemized bill for his services and that he makes up charges when he gets to a towing job. He told me that for our tow he could have charged between 125 and 300. When I asked to be charged 125 instead, he said that if he knew I'd be such a pain he would have charged my husband 350. When asked again for an itemized bill, owner said that he'd "make up" some numbers for an itemized bill that I would have to pick up. He refused to send any information to me. When I said I would do a stop payment on the amount charged until I received an accurate itemized bill, he said he would take me to court immediately. He then tried to intimidate me by saying he would bring the police to court with him to vouch for the road conditions. I insisted I knew the roads were bad and the police need not be involved, he ridiculously suggested the police would vouch for his billing practices.
