Run Local Locksmith Reviews

Rip off!!!
Do not use this company!!! I locked myself out of my car and called them since they were the first number I found; it took the dispatcher ten minutes to find out where my subdivision was. She then called back and said that actually she had not found it, and after proceeding to spell the name of my street for her for the tenth time, she finally got it right and said the locksmith would be there in fifteen minutes. An hour has gone by, and the guy calls to tell me he got stuck in traffic (um, at two o'clock in the suburbs, yea right) and it will be only five to ten more minutes. Half an hour later, he pulls up and unlocks my car. The dispatcher had told me it was going to be $29, and it was..for the service call only. He charged me $160 total, what a rip off. He also took almost fifteen minutes running my credit card from his car, and today I got a message from my bank saying I had irregular activity. I go online and see that I have almost $200 charges from AutoTrader.com and Cars.com - funny, since he was the last person to use my debit card.

Again, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They will be late, rip you off, and more than likely use your credit card or debit card to run up charges!!!

Overcharged and mis-informed
I called multiple locksmiths to get quotes on re-keying 5 condo doors to match an existing key. Run Local had the cheapest quoted service call fee at $29 plus a lock charge of "$19 and up" so I set up an appointment. The day of the appointment, the technician called to say that he had an emergency call from another client to get a child out of the car and that he would be 1 hour late for my appointment. When he arrived I showed him all of the doors that needed have a new key and he said that two of the five doors had to be different based on key styles. Therefore, we'd need two different keys to get into our common entryway, which is inconvenient. I also questioned the need for a completely new door knob saying that I simply needed the the pins changed to match a key but he went ahead with new hardware. The new knobs that he installed had a manual lock on the back instead of always being open from one side, which he claimed were "commercial" locks and would cost about double. He told me it would be $75 per doorknob and $95 per special lock, which totaled over $400. I had assumed I would spend less than $150 on the entire project. He also said that I could pay cash and therefore avoid paying tax.

I ended up making him remove two of the doorknobs and I got charged for a total of three locks, coming in at $300 cash. I paid because I was so frustrated after spending two hours watching him install unnecessary and incorrect locks. I called the Run Local office twice and both times, they told me that I would get a call back from Juan, which hasn't happened yet.

I ended up taking the old knobs into Anderson Lock and getting them re-keyed to match the others for $22 a piece.

Over charge, double charge
Add says, $29, 15 minute arrival.
The person assigned to assist me did not know his way around and took more than an hour to arrive. He blamed his inability on me. When he arrived he charged me an additional $125 over and above the $29 which at that point my choice was pay it or call another company and wait who knows how long.

On top of that, when I checked my credit card bill, I was charged a separate charge for another $111.00. After several calls to the company to reverse the additional charge, they still have not reversed and continue to give me the run around.

This company should be avoided at all costs. Never use Run Local for anything!

Overcharges
I wish I would have read these complaints before I called these yahoos! The name is almost right. One should RUN from these locksmiths. For five minutes of work, they charged $184. what a rip-off. Definitely a case of buyer beware. The company really doesn't care about customer service, just as long as they get their money. I was told that $29 for travel, and $29+ for degree of difficulty in opening lock. I guess 5 minutes is very difficult - because they charged $184. Talked to the office, but frankly got a run around from the office manager. If you look at their web site you will notice that nowhere is an address, or home office listed. That should have been a tip off. I'm filing a complaint with the BBB, but I don't think much will come of it. Again, avoid these guys like the plague.

Illegal Business
Based on a horrifying experience, this national business uses false advertising and carries misleading charges. They claim that the locksmith services start at $29 but don't write that this fee is just for the technician reporting to the site alone. Additional charges apply making a minimum total charge amount at $125. They also claim that a technician will be at the site within 15 minutes of the call. This is inaccurate when the technician actually called within 15 minutes of the call, lied about the estimated time of arrival, and then showed up nearly two hours after the initial call! On top of that, the technician was rude, threatening and violent. Anyone requiring locksmith services should be highly warned to stay away from this company and use a real locally advertised locksmith.
