I had an A-Fib episode and went to the firehouse to have my BP checked. Rural/Metro decided to transport me to the ER. I asked Alex to take me to the Thompson Peak ER because I'd been there before with the same problem. It's also the closest ER to Carefree. Alex said no we'll go to Mayo ER becuase they have the best cardio Dr.'s around. I said if you're going to take me to Mayo just continue on to Scottsdale North Hospital where my doctor is. No was his reply that's to far. So we go to Mayo.
We go in the ER. They make me very comfortable and I feel safe. The nurse comes in and looks at the IV's the EMTs put in my arm. The Mayo ER doesn't use that guage of IV so we need to replace these IVs. I tell her I don't have insurance so try and keep the cost down. I got new IVs. The doctor on duty comes in and we talk. I tell her my Doctor's name but you know we only use our Mayo doctors. Sorry. The Mayo cardio doctor comes in and yes there is an A-fib. What do you know about that. He wants to keep me until Monday, this was Saturday at about 2:oo PM, so we can check you out. Again I tell them I don't have any insurance and will pay this myself. They won't give me the shock because I had a sandwich at 12:30 PM and can't have any anesthesia in order to do a cardioversion. So Here's the Gripe. What has cost me $2500 to $3000 before I now get a bill for $9500.
