Lotto Scratcher Redemption
My boyfriend went to the South Davis Safeway to redeem over $100 we had collected over a few weeks in lotto scratchers... well he walked out with only $76!! This idiot blindly trusted who ever was handling the tickets, and even though he KNEW the number was too low, he left anyway thinking there was nothing he could do since "the clerk tore the tickets." Bull-bleep! We had a stack of over 20 cards, from $1 to $3; a mere three of those cards were, respectively, a $21, $28, and $15 winner (two Rockin 7s and a Poker Game). Now, you tell me that doesn't bleeping add up!!! I am more angry with my idiot boyfriend for not speaking up and at least figuring out w-t-h was going on there, but still, in the future I will only redeem one or two cards a time MYSELF and that way HOPEFULLY not be ripped off. <br />
<br />
BEWARE!!! redeem in small quantities and know exactly the amount or be prepared to have some bleep bleep steal your bleeping money!!!

scanner overcharge
The scanners are charging different prices than the price listed on the shelf. When I called to alert the store staff to the issue (not asking for any reimbursement honestly it's so small its not worth my time to drive back and claim it) they were rude and handed me off to a stock boy to explain it too. When I described the products I had been overcharged on so he could correct the error and prevent future people from being ripped off, he said "they are still overcharging? That happened to me earlier today when I bought myself a soda". That sent off a red flag to me that the store staff knew about the issue but took no action to correct it, preferring instead to continue overcharging customers. Later today I will call the Alameda County Weights and Measures to file a formal complaint. I know Safeway was sued in 2007/2008 for overcharging looks like they have not learned their lesson and made any changes to their business practices.

It's only $2.40 out of my pocket this time but it signals a much larger problem with Safeway as an honest business.

Accused of asking for money
I have a Safeway not 2 blocks from my home which, I go to all the time. I went the on 05/17/09 to shop . As, I approched my vehicle to unload my groceries a Lady came up and asked for money, I told her, I only use my Debit Card . She then turned to ask the Lady next to my car for money. As a safety for other Customer, I decided to re-enter the store to let them know what was going on. I did that told the Individual what she was wearing. as, I was getting ready to leave a Store Manager by the Name of Mike Milton approched me and told me to leave that he had got a complaint about me approching individuals for money. I got really upset and told him, I did not . He walked away by that time, I was very upset. So, I waited in my car for awhile to calm down. Then, I decided to go back in the store to talk to the first individual I spoke with, she was down at the end of the store opposit of where I was parked, I was going that direction, I passed Mike Milton, I was still upset over the Incident in the parking lot he said, I guess, I owe you and apologie . I told him, I did not want his apologie. I approched the other person and told her, I would not shop here anymore, she said she was sorry, that she had given him the description of the other Individual and he got the whong person. I was so Embrassed over the whole Situation. I have worked in Public service for Thirty Some years and have never treated anyone like that, The mistake he made is unforgiveable.<br />

Constant Collection Calls
I keep getting calls from Safeway, I did have an overdraft months ago that I paid; they continue to call and ask for money, when I say I paid and owe nothing, they say "oh we wanted to let you know you are paid and we are crediting late fees" - months ago and I can't get them to stop calling. I just tell them now "get a real job and stop the harrassement" - they continue to call...does Safeway know this is going on? Do they sanction this kind of crap? I want it stopped.

shut down of registers for over thirty mins.
was in line with all my items were ready to be scanned when the manager came by to ask us to move to register 10 again we waited with no cashier thenthe registers went off line some how and they couldnt fix them they didnt know hoe. Then after all that waithing the supercisor came back and asked us to move back to registers that we came from .the line at that time had grown very long so when we moved back to the first register we ended up at the back of lets say 30 people and askked the cashier and supervisor why we had to get to the end of the line all he said was he couldnt do anything about it. That set me off so bad.

Safeway Free Delivery
Free delivery trick?!

I spent a couple of hours to select items and started to check-out. They let me choose the date & time for delivery first and then, put the Promotion Code for free shipping of my first order. But it said 'Your Promotion Code is invalid for the selected date'.', and it suggested to put EASY7 for discounted delivery fee. Okay, then, how can I change the date and time for free shipping?? No guidance, no turning back! Was there no free delivery from the beginning? Why did I spend hours on this stupid thing? Most of people would think that "Well, it's only $10 for delivery, the items are ready to be ordered and I came this far, so whatever." and might place the order. It looks like this is what Safeway want it to happen.

I know the economy is really terrible, but this makes me feel like I got mugged! Shame on you, Safeway! I'm never ever gonna waste my time by trying this again.

* In addition, of course I tried to call the service center and it took forever, so I had to give up as usual.

Sick on the Job!
I was just at Safeway located at Happy Canyon shopping center in Denver... The cross streets are Dahlia and Hampden avenue. The girl working the express checkout lane was so sick at work that it was unbelievable!! There was a pile of about 5-8 tissues full of snot right next to the cash drawer! She was snivelling, coughing and sneezing all over the place as well as bagging groceries with peoples food without washing her hands. People were actually getting out of line behind me and going to longer lines at regular check out lanes just because of her actions. If you are THAT SICK then STAY HOME!!! I had to come home and wash all of my purchases with soap, and hot water. That is BULLSHIT!! The manager of the store was obviously aware of this conduct as well as he was standing right there. I REFUSE TO SHOP AT SAFEWAY after that ordeal. Get your shit together. I should call the health department!!

Pricing policy change
Safeway is getting even SMARMIER. Be cautious about sale items change of policy.

For many years if a discounted price (usually club card price) on the shelf said buy 2 and save $X.xx amount, the understanding was that buying one of that item meant the same discount. The suggestion only meant that you'd not save as much as you would if you bought two. THAT POLICY HAS CHANGED without any public acknowledgment, according to the store manager. So if we customers are not watching closely, we'll be charged full price unless we buy a minimum of 2. Those of us who were used to that policy are most vulnerable. I imagine many people will never notice which I'm sure is fine with the Safeway management and stockholders. At least the recession won't hurt THEM.

The price signs on the shelves look virtually the same as the old and don't explicitly say that you MUST buy two to get the discounted price. Albertson's (now out of business here, or changed back to Lucky) used this kind of subtle (smarmy) strategy which was a primary reason I avoided using their store.

Now I'll take whatever business I can away from Safeway and I'll be very cautious buying their sale items. Just be aware if you chose to shop there.

Bad service
The following incident just happened today February 3, 2009. Between 9:45pm and 10 pm. I went in Safeway to pick up three items. Thought it would be a quick run in run out scenario. I went to check out and the 15 items or less line closed right before I entered. So I moved to the regular line behind a Safeway employee. The employee took 10 minutes to check out! It was the worst experience I have ever had in a grocery store. The cashier didn't pay any attention to the developing line until 5 others where behind me. I tried to be patient. But the employee wanted to check the subtotal price after every purchase made. I wanted to go to another line, but there weren't any other lines to choose from! The whole issue was that the employee didn't care since she was off work and was only thinking of herself! I will never go there again. If it closes down I wouldnt care! There are many other stores that treat their customers with respect. My advice is if you are in the Landmark area avoid this grocery store.

Opening during Inauguration Day
I was amazed to learn this morning that Safeway chose to open their store(s?) in Washington DC during the entire (inauguration) day. I daresay that 98% of their personnel are Obama supporters and, apart from that, that it was entirely foreseeable that hardly any customers would (be able to) come in that day anyhow (as indeed they didn't). I think it's antisocial to offer up your workers' happiness to the gods of money and consumerism 365 days a year, no matter the circumstances.
