Sallie Mae Reviews

Co-signer Release Form
So I graduated college back in June 29, 2007 and have been looking for a career ever since. I have been paying on my Sallie Mae loan for a little over 2 years now and yet I still owe $79, 000 even though I borrowed $80, 000 I cant believe it has not gone down even though my payments were $800 a month the first year and $550 a month this year. Back on September 14, 2010 I called Sallie Mae to get a co-signer release form application so that way my parents could get their names off my loan. First of all it took Sallie Mae 2 weeks just to send me the application and its only 5 questions. I faxed them the completed application on September 26, 2010. I called them On Oct 4, 2010 to ask them what the status was and the lady told me it would be another 2 weeks to do a background check on me which was a complete lie because it does not take that long to do a background check. So on Oct 27, 2010 I called them again to ask the status and the lady said it would be another 30 days. I asked why and the lady just kept repeating herself of how it will take 30 days. Then on December 6, 2010 my dad called to find out and they said the same crap another 30 days. The next time my dad called he finally got a hold of a supervisor and they said it should have only taken 4 days.

I dont see how Sallie Mae can get away with false promises, missinformation, and their sales people have no clue whats going on. Not to mention if your unemployed like me and have been busting your ass to find a job the loan payments each month are so ridiculously high that there is no way you could ever live on your on and have a normal life. Dont ever get a Sallie Mae loan its just a scam!!!

Loan payoff
Back in Febraury of 2005 I went back to school full-tim to re-train at Lake College in Redding, CA. I took out one federal loan and the school said I still needed $4800 more. They recommeded I go through Sallie Mae. I had never applied for school loans before so I trusted what they recommeded to me so that I could start school right away. The loan for Sallie Mae was for $4800. I was told I didn't have to start paying it back until I graduated which was August of 2005. I have been paying on this loan for almost four years and the interest rate is 5.75%. I have now paid over $4000 and they are telling me that I still owe them over $3, 000. I asked them to send me an "Amorization Schedule" and they said they don't do amorization schdules. They refuse to give me anything that shows me how they can justify this balance. HELP. This is highway robbery!

Difficult Customer Service/Help
So, my wife has several small student loans from Sallie Mae because her school decided to take a new loan out every quarter. No biggie... right... wrong. Now my wife has been out of school for over a year now and we are still trying to get those loans consolidated. We were first told about three months ago that they would be start offering consolidation again in September. We called in September. We were then told to call back in two weeks. We called back and then they told us to call back in middle October. So we called in October and they said call back in early November. After much frustration, we decided to call one last time but this time they were officially offering consolidation. Sounds great... WRONG... they decided to inform us now after four phone calls that they are only offering consolidation to people who attend state schools and not private schools (which was what my wife attended). Now instead of getting relief from 17 student loans totaling 900$ a month we are left with no help what-so-ever. Thanks Sallie Mae!!!

For all those who have Sallie Mae loans they are offering student consolidation to anyone who went to a state school. For everyone else, we are being discriminated.

Oh and one last thing Sallie Mae costumer service decided to inform us by accident that they are not advertising their so-called consolidation. So if you want to know, you will have to ask.

Login Forces you to surrender your rights
If you have a loan through Sallie Mae, beware of their new login procedure. They force you to verify your email and your phone number in the page following your login. When you are on this page you verify all of your information and then you give Sallie Mae the authority to do what they want with your email and phone number because they have added in some important verbiage:

By providing my telephone number, I authorize Sallie Mae, Inc., its affiliates and agents to contact me at such number using any means of communication, including, but not limited to, calls placed to my cellular phone using an automated dialing device, calls using prerecorded messages and/or SMS text messages, regarding any current or future loans owned or serviced by Sallie Mae, Inc. its affiliates and agents, even if I will be charged by my service provider(s) for receiving such communications. By providing my email address, I authorize Sallie Mae and any affiliates to which it shares this email address to send me commercial messages at such email address.

The only option is to hit SUBMIT. There is not a choice in this matter and you CANNOT skip the page or see your accounts until you submit this approval for Sallie Mae to use your information for themselves and their 'agents.'

Be warned. I tried to call to get through this login page and not verify this information then they transferred me to the billing department to pay my loans over the phone. The billing agent proceeded to try to have me verbally agree to the same lingo, they force you to re-state the information the already have and then have you surrender this information to the above statement.

I am trying to learn where I can have this corrected immediately but wanted to post so other innocent loan holders did not surrender their own information.

Company is in FEAR
The supervisor in Sallie Mae: Allen employee #C52057, Chris #C36515, Richy #C36013, and others are in FEAR to speak to the Head Company or management regarding issues within the company regarding mishandling of my account. They conduct wire fraud, miscommunication, play games which I have all documentation to prove it. The company has separate division and the supervisor said he is not able to contact anyone in the company. The people in account receivable department are not handling my account correctly and there is no way anyone can contact that department. This is becoming a very dangerous game to play with me, with my account and emotions. I have spoke to 6 different supervisors and they all express FEAR and they do not transfer me to the department that is conducting fraudulent activity or the CEO or the lawyers of the company. I cannot relate or trust this company as whole.

If I was in a war I would not want to be in the field without air unit or a general. I would lose and die. That’s how they make me feel. I need my man to win the war and if I need help I should be able to contact my general and use air support. Neither are available... there are deadlines and battle to conquer. I feel empty without the general and air unit and worse is when my unit is in fear. This company is not available at all. I would not have signed up if I knew this was going happen. There are a lot of people that are in the same position that I am. It’s a ghost company. They are all in FEAR to raise issues so they do not look bad. Fear cannot be part of war. This is unacceptable.

Ask yourself would u like to be in a war when your man is in fear and there is no general and idiots running the air support???

The war is referring to the debt. I cannot pay this debt when there is misleading of my account, when the sup. has a fear to raise ill issues within the company, when the sup. is afraid to speak the chain of command and when account receivable screwing my account.

I strongly believe this is done on purpose so I will be in debt and those that control debt will control people. Again this is going into a very dangerous game that I wish not to play.

If you can be a big brother ( presidentObama. FBI, FTC, DA) and help I would appreciate. I need real man/woman in my unit, a real general (management) and a real air support (account receivable to handle my payments correctly).

This company is not real they are full of fear!!!

Staff on phone should be FIRED
Sallie Mae had better train their more senior phone personnel to be respectful of now 49-nine-year-olds who call or they will be FIRED by me, personally. When we offer to mail in a form they will not demand that it be faxed. The form will be mailed and they will like it. In fact, they will come to my door and collect it in person. Or, as I said, they will be FIRED! Amen.

Harassing Call
I am making my payments monthly on time as well as my daughter and they won't stop calling and sending letters. I'm a bit confused by all the complaints yet no one is doing anything to help consumers with this? Where are our government officials with their head in the sand or are they backing Sallie Mae??

Login Issues
On August 27, 2010 I received an email saying that Sallie Mae would be consolidating their user IDs to make it "easier" for people to login. However, since that change, I have yet to gain access to their website. I have called Sallie Mae for the past two days asking when the problem would be resolved but every time I get an incompetent customer service rep who has no idea how to help me. They give me generic answers like "Let's reset your user ID or "Change your password" but to no avail, I still receive the same message stating "Error - We are unable to process your request at this time. Sorry for the inconvenience."

I mean for goodness sakes, I just want to login. Is anyone else having the same login issue? If so, have you contacted Sallie Mae about the problem? They just keep telling me to try back again later in the night. It is ridiculous! Feel free to comment back if anyone else has the same login problem...Thanks!

unsubstantiated late fees
I have student loans with Sallie Mae and recently began the Income-Based Repayment Option in June 2010. I made my first payment early and every payment since. However, they added a $115 late fee to my account the first month. I called customer service, and the representative says I do not owe a late fee. However, it's still on my account and every month when I receive my on-line bill, lo and behold there it is. I e-mailed them and they replied that it was added before the IBR, but this is not so. I have e-mailed them again and told them to remove this immediately under threat of legal action. How can I deal with them?
