It was late in the evening and I had planned all day to get my hair cut. I asked if they had any books to look at for pictures so I could describe more efficiently to the hairdresser what I wanted. I found something close and explained. She claimed she knew what I wanted. I hadn't really finished and continued to explain. Again she told me she knew what I wanted. My hair was past my waist and I only wanted maybe 6 inches off so it wouldn't get caught in my pants. I also wanted layers in the front, to give me a style. We discussed that my hair was very thick, she said we could fix that.. I assumed she was talking about the layers lightening it up. I should have been paying more close attention, as she chopped away. Finally she whips out her thinning sheers and says not to worry only the small parts on the top have a blade. I have never seen one and thought they were for my ends. She lifts up my hair says "don't go into shock" and starts chopping away} I was horrified and really didn't know what to do. I didn't want to leave with one side half done, so stupidly I let her chop away. She didn't ask me if I wanted these or offer any info about how my hair would grow back. I would have said NO. Then she must have seen the horror in my face and told me to stand up she just wanted to even it out. I look on the floor and see a pile of hair. She didn't blow dry my hair or stlye it.
I left the store crying. When I got home I discovered there was a 2 inch difference in length in my bangs. And my hair basically looks like someone took a weed wacker to it. The worst of all is it is shoulder length level and has a few what resemble strands that reach past my bra. I really don't know what her idea was she didn't ask or communicate what she thought I wanted.
Now I will assume responsibility for some of this. Mainly I should have been more awake and observant of what she was doing. I also should have repeated what my vision for my hair was.
However a salon should follow customer instructions and really show they are listening and hearing what the customer is saying. She should have also kept asking me if she didn't understand what I wanted before she proceeded. In her choice of profession she should have easy dealings with people of all personality types. I am not a assertive person and I should have been given more information and more choice. I don't have much experience in getting my hair professionally cut. I have always had long hair. But a big corporation should have better customer service skills that are accomodating to all people. I didn't tell her to do as she pleased. I hate my hair and should know better not to go there because of what I have heard from others. It will take years to grow my hair back. I have already missed 2 days of work and have to wait for the local hairdresser to return from Florida which won't be till the end of next week. I just want to cry.
