With Christmas season here, I wanted to send a word of warning regarding Samsung televisions. My husband purchased me a 32" LCD Television on 12/20/2005 for Christmas at a cost of over $1,800.00. It was for the bedroom and it lasted only 15 months before going out. I took it to have it looked at ($32) and they said it would be over $500 to repair. I contacted Samsung, since it was only 3 months out of warranty, and they had me take it to another place ($37). Their diagnosis was $1, 097.76; they said that the LCD Panel had gone out. Samsung said that they might be able to help some way, and had me fax them the purchase receipt and diagnosis sheet. After numerous faxings and scannings over months and over probably 20 hours on the phone and speaking to someone different every time (and getting a different hoop to jump through with all of them) they said that it was out of warranty and there was nothing that they could do (11/21/07). This has been going on since March of this year. In my opinion, any TV costing that amount of money should last well over 15 months.
The moral of this story is, that this is not a brand that you should consider. I may have (and probably did) get a defective product, but without a good company standing behind it, you can really loose a lot of money. I know that most of us will probably be replacing our televisions over the next couple of years with the new system that is coming out, and I don't want anyone going through what we have.
From what we are told by someone at a major retailer who does returns on sets is that she has had good success with Sony and Toshiba. I hope that this will help anyone having to make a choice when purchasing electronics. Please feel free to forward to anyone you know of that may be making a purchase.
