Customer service and unexplained fees
In February of 2010 Santander Consumer USA took over my loan with HSBC Auto Finance, as HSBC went out of business I think.
From the start we had problems with them not applying the payments received on time and adding the following months interest to the current balance.
I started sending the payments certified mail, so there would be no late fees as I did not trust the company.
Yesterday I've received my what should be last payment notice. On it I've noticed a $3.78 fee, not specified what for.
When I called customer service, the representative was not able to explain the fee. I asked to talk to the supervisor, which is almost impossible to achieve. Finally the supervisor came to the phone and told me the same thing; can't explain the fee- don't see it on my account and that's all.
Customer service at this place is absolutely horrible, not to mention that it is very hard to understand anyone as they speak very bad English. I was denied the supervisor's supervisor phone number, I was denied the Corporate phone number and all I got was the PO address in Texas to complaint in writing.
I was told to pay what's on the invoice, even if they could not explain the charge.
I was also told that next month I'll be receiving another bill for about $5, for what I don't know and they would not explain.
My loan should be completely satisfied after this months partial payment, I have all documentation to prove it, and per my original loan agreement my final payment should be $523.87. Santander states the balance is $532.67 and can not explain the additional charges. I've never in the duration of the whole loan with HSBC been late /72 months/ or missed a payment.
I did pay the $3.78 fee, and I'll pay next month's $5 bill, as I don't want to compromise my credit, but I'll file complaints against this company and get to the bottom of their fees they're unable to explain.
If they charge every single client an extra 8-10 dollars, that's lots of money.
Dealing with this company, who is trying to hide and deny the fact that they are a collection agency was one of the most unpleasant experiences ever. It was not by my doing to end up with a collection agency, and I feel so bad for people who have to deal with them for long time.
It is for me not the $8 they trying to get from me with no explanation or reason, but the principal, and companies like this have to be stopped from overcharging people, adding on fees for nothing and poor customer service.
I'll be looking for other ways to get to the bottom of the fee charges, and do something about it.
Denial of phone number to the supervisor's or corporate office will not protect Santander from complaints, it will just ignite it.

Excessive late fees
I had an auto loan with Soverign Bank, which was purchased or however it panned out now became Santander Consumer USA. USA...really?? Every time you call them you speak to someone in another country. NEVER THE USA!! Besides that...they are rude and arrogant and very non-caring. I have less than a year to pay on my vehicle. My husband and I separated. I asked them if they could put a payment on the back of the loan so I could get a grip on my finances. They said they didn't do that. But somehow or another, they changed the due date??!! So it always looks like I am a month behind. Hence...all the late fees accumulating on this account.
When I called them to discuss the late fees...they said there is nothing they could do about it.
They first said, "oh you just missed our promotion" it ended yesterday. ARE YOU KIDDING ME????????????
So now...it's on my credit report, late fees accumulate every month, and they won't do a damn thing about it.
Makes me feel like any day they have the right to come and take my car. NOT!!!
Not to mention, when you make your payment on line, they charge you 10.95 western union fee. Really????
No one charges to make payments!! That is stealing in my opinion.
There are no local banks to make the car payment. And now...when I try to make the payment, it tells me that I can't use that account!!! WHY???????? I have no idea. But, it takes time to make phone calls for payments. I work two jobs, it's very inconvenient.
I hate this company. They are not even registered with the BBB. Gee, what a surprise!!

Awful Customer Service
I am so sick of talking to customer service representatives that I cannot understand, and they cannot understand me. I was just on the phone with Santander's customer service and apparently it was time for them to close. My phone call was cut off! How tacky is that? When I called back an automated message said that the call center was closed for the day. Gee, thanks. The whole reason I called was because their online account access has NEVER worked, and I needed assistance to make some account changes. I am very displeased that Santander is in charge of my loan now, I never had problems like this with HSBC.

Over charges/no notification
we had a loan through HSBC and have paid our monthly payments and only to HSBC, plus more than amount due. Then this Santander Consumer constantley sending us nasty letters saying we owe them the amount of the loan, several letters was sent to HSBC an this Santander Consumer USA have all letters sent to them cause they was certified always, when you call this Santander Consumer USA you get someone who bearly speaks English and reapts the same thing over and over to us. I let them know we did not know whom they was and all are payments go to HSBC and this has been going on for so long we went to a attorney over it and now we have requested them to come get this vehicle and still no reply or they have yet to retreive this vehicle the attorney is aware of this issue and has called both companies and no reply back. We Never Recieved a change of loan companies. We are still having issues with these companies tot his date.

They loose payments
I would not reccomend this company to anyone! If a dealership offers this to people that have fair-poor credit DONT use it! We had 3 occasions were they cashed checks and then NEVER posted them to the account all 3 times I had to fax in copies of the cashed checks and threaten them with an attorney to do anything! Very poor customer service!! Then when I traded the vehicle in they sent my overpayment to the dealership that we bought our different vehicle through! That dealership had never heard of any company doing that before!

predatory lending
This company is a predatory lender, my wife and daughter purchased a car, yes our credit is bad we have had many problems over the years with money but we have always pad off any loan that we have taken out most times costing much more to us due to late fees and the like. This company has made it impossible to even catch up on payments, due to hidden charges, fees and lies about what you owe at any one time to get your account current. They tell you it is current then turn around and tell you OH you did not pay the charges in your last payment and they have been acquiring charges this whole time. They make it impossible for you to stay up on the payments, then charge you for the payments you make over the phone and INTERNET. You could send it by mail but then you have to depend on them to apply it to the account before late charges are attached that they do not tell you about. So far this year we have payed over $1, 500.00 in fees and hidden charges, we live from week to week this is not right that they should prey on the low income population. They should be shut down for their predatory lending practices.

liers, rude, steals titles
This business has proven to me that they are scamers, liers and they steal money. we traded our truck off, santander has told me that the dealership has not sent the payoff check, then it was we will post to your account today the 13th of aug, then it was we lost the check then it was it was posted to the wrong account and now dealership must send copy of cashed check front and back or they will not get the title to the trade in and we will still owe lots of money. I have talked to some flake everyday and email everyday. I cannot believe Gov. Perry has allowed this to go on. I think he is a great man. Gov Perry please help these people. AND SHAME ON HSBC, IN SHORT YOU SUCK!

Egregious Accounting Practices & Horibble Customer Service
My auto loan was owned and serviced with HSBC Auto Finance Company (without incident) until March of 2010 at which time Santander became the servicing agent. My Loan was handed to them with only 4 pymts left on the loan. My payments were made promptly with HSBC. Even though I did not receive information as to where to send my payments, I proactively went online to Santander's website to make my first payment online to ensure that I was not late in making my payment; however, Santander began charging my account with late fees. I contacted the Customer Service to have the matter resolved and this is when the nightmare began. I have presented them with evidence upon evidence indicating my promptness in making my payments and they somehow turn my evidence against me because as one of the Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) stated, "because they can without the customer's consent." I have tried to have these matters resolved without litigation, but there appears to be no other solution. I paid overpaid my loan in July 2010 (and have proof of that) to bring my balance to $0.00 to rid myself of business with Santander. Yet, somehow they have managed to place balances on my account - one day the balance is the amount I paid off, the next day it's $1174.##. Today, the balance on my account read: $324.##. Thank God for HSBC for even thou Santander ran amuck with my account, I received my Certificate of Title from HSBC in the mail today. HSBC upheld their agreement with me and honored it. I still however, feel that FTC or BBB or whomever can, need to have Santander dissolved in business. It is the worst example of Consumer Lending I have ever known. There should REALLY be LEGAL ACTION(S) brought against them - maybe then they would be consummate in their customer service. I'm still concerned about the negative information that was most likely given to credit reporting agencies re: to my account due to their extreme display of malice and vindictiveness. A class action suit should be sought and brought against Santander Consumer USA for misaligning the credit-worthiness of their customers and punitive damages sought for the aggravation and distress their CSRs cause.

Harrassing calls and inaccurate balances
Santander took over for Drive Financial who originally had my car loan. Drive Financial was bad enough but Santander calls me one day after a payment is due to ask when my payment is going to be made. They call on average of 14 times a day. They call on two lines at work and my cell phone. If I wasn't the one answering the phone at work, I would be in a lot of trouble for getting that many calls.
They also have increased the balance on the account even when the payments were on time. The balance on the statement does not reflect nearly as many payments as I have actually made. When I inquired as to why, customer service told me I would be able to get a print out of all transactions on the account. I requested it three times. I have NEVER received one report. I believe they are overcharging interest and adding fees that are not legal, but I can't prove it without their breakdown.
These people MUSt be stopped. they break all the rules and get away with it!!

Most Irritating Company EVER
It seems I'm in the same boat as most of you. I had my car loan with HSBC Auto and then suddenly one day I'm getting calls from Santander. I fell behind on my car loan by 45 days due to being diagnosed with Leukemia and spending some time in the hospital. I have been dealing with Santander for about 4 months now. I am totally confused as to how they come up with the amount of money owed on my account. I made a payment every 60 days for 2 months straight and then made 2 payments within one month. From my calculations, I should be caught up. I went to the website and it showed I was 31 days past due, then a week later, it said 63 days past due. It also showed my normal payment amount and then over $2, 100 in "FEES". I have no idea what this is. To make matters worse, they continually call me at work. I have advised them that I cannot receive personal calls and to stop. I also said this was against the FDCA and I would file a complaint, yet they continue to call at work. I also get several calls a day on my cell. The last straw was they called my father last week. Oliver Davila told him that he was looking for me and left a number. He then asked my father if he was hiding my Jeep at his house. My father said "No, you can come check if you'd like". My father then called me upset and he has a heart condition. I called Santander and spoke with a Supervisor and told her I would be filing a complaint and to never call my father again and upset him. She informed me that my father must be lying because they would have never said that to him. I am at the end of my rope with these people. I will be taking the advice of others and filing complaints with the FTC, my attorney general, and my congressman. I urge all of you to do the same.
