Basically we booked a room for 3 nights in Scottsdale. Thinking we were getting a resort, what we got was lied to and ripped off. This resort apparently has a normal pattern of booking the stay, and putting guests in another hotel with claims of being full. If the Scottsdale Cottonwoods Resort should ever do this to you, take them up on it and enjoy your visit somewhere else.
We were bumped down a room-grade from our suite because the front desk gal said they were booked. I'm angry at this place because they didn't even refund us the difference in the room rates (like $40). Scottsdale Cottonwoods Resort did offer to negate the resort charge for the one night ($15), but still charged us the fee the rest of the stay. We were invaded the first night by the front desk to allow a gentleman to look for his lost clothing in our room. What a joke! Wouldn't housekeeping have removed all the items when they cleaned and placed them in lost & found? Of course they would have, if in fact housekeeping cleaned at all... which they don't. This is the dirtiest place I've ever stayed at, where housekeeping leaves the pillows on the floor after making the beds. We asked the front desk if they even change the sheets; couldn't believe my ears, but they said no... "we just make the beds".
There are also no resort amenities for the $15 charge. Let's think about this for a minute and take a look at what Scottsdale Cottonwoods Resort offers:
* In-room Internet (Hardwired) - That's right, no wireless! This means you're tethered to a small desk. No biggie, but isn't this standard now at every hotel? Why is it considered a resort fee?
* Wireless Internet at Moriah Cyber Courtyard - Wireless at Moriah... which is actually down the street from the resort. The resort is actually located about 1/8 of a mile from the front desk. So if you want wireless, you have to travel down to the restaurant. And by the way, you're paying $15 to walk 1/8 of a mile for your wireless.
* Fitness Center access - This is a normal, all inclusive thing at any other hotel.
* 10% off any Item in Moriah for Breakfast - 10% off? How about a free continental breakfast for $15? Many hotels give this to you.
* Local Phone Calls - Seriously? This is actually included in the resort fee?
* In Room Coffee & 2 Bottled Waters per day - Every hotel on the planet gives you free in-room coffee. Check it out, the coffee maker is one of those tiny (and we stayed in two separate rooms, and it was the same) tiny coffee makers that you cant even make your own coffee with. If you want coffee, you'd have to use the two bottles of water they give you because no one in their right mind would drink Phoenix tap water. The coffee comes in two's. Which means get one cup each if your with someone... and if there's more than three of you... too bad. The coffee make is such that you could never make your own coffee in it because it has no ability; it lack a holding container for coffee and filters.
* In-room Safe - Front desk gal actually asked me if there was a key still in the safe the first night we were invaded by our friend who lost his clothes. So, I'm guessing the safe isn't actually safe at all if they don't know where the keys are.
* In-room Refrigerator - This is BS. The fridge is a tiny little room fridge that all hotels have. A resort (especially the big suites) should have full-size refrigerators. All the rooms have these junky little fridges which barely fit any food. Also, the stove in the suite is seriously like 50 years old... if not older.
* Value Discount Cards- upon request - Upon request... as if this has anything to do with the resort itself.

So, what we determined was that you pay $15 for water. For $15 I'll bring my own water.
Let me share what a REAL resort does Scottsdale Cottonwoods!
* Put dishes in the cupboards so guests can actually eat food in the supposed full kitchen you offer.
* Put pots and pans in the cupboards so guests can actually cook something. Why have a stove if you don't offer anything to cook with?
* How about some utensils? Have to bring it up because you'll put pots and pans in there but leave out something to eat with. Do you guys actually think people travel with utensils?
* Vacuums the floors
* A real resort changes the sheets every day and makes the beds
* Scrubs the scum off the bathroom floor and shower
* Has a real coffee maker with actual coffee
* Free Continental breakfast
* Air Conditioning that actually works
* A real resort would abide by and study the policies of the "Baker" act and fix the private jacuzzi with the correct filter plates instead of locking off the back patio and filling in the jacuzzis with cement.
The Scottsdale Cottonwoods Resort is NOT a resort. It's a filthy place and should be torn down and condemned.
