No Oil after oil change - blown engined
Drop off 2000 Chevy Tahoe on Sunday at 2:10 pm for oil change and check rear brakes for noise. Sears called at 5:32 pm (they close at 6 pm) to say they had changed the oil, checked the brakes but they couldn't fix the noise it was a problem with the rear end (he said seals were all shot). He wanted me to pickup the vehicle before they closed at 6 pm. I advised him I could not make it by closing and would pick it up Monday. My husband and son drove to Sears, paid $63.89 and drove away - planning on taking the Tahoe to a mechanic to fix the rear end. They drove 3 miles, the Tahoe stalled out twice and finally my husband pulled over and called me. He said the Tahoe wouldn't run and he was calling AAA to have it towed to the mechanic. He figured it was a problem with the rear-end. The tow truck towed the Tahoe 3 miles to the mechanic. The mechanic called me 1 hour later and asked why I thought the problem was the rear end, I told him what Sears told me. He then said -- the engine is blown! When they tried to start the Tahoe and heard the "clunking noise", they immediately shut it off and checked the dipstick NO OIL! None, it was completed dry. I was nearly in tears. I asked him again are you sure - he said yes there was no oil and the engine seized up. He suggested calling Sears, give them his number and he would explain what he found. After SEVERAL calls to Sears automotive managers, I was told Sears checked their "logs" and found everything had been "signed off on" and that the oil must have leaked out. I informed the manager that I had a statement from the tow company that there was NO leak when they loaded it on the flatbed. I have a statement from the mechanic there was NO leak when he checked it. The Sears manager stated he didn't know who this mechanic was and maybe he was mistaken. I told him the shop was AAA certified and if he wanted to pay to have the Tahoe towed back to Sears he could check it for himself. He said as far was he was concerned the matter was closed. I asked him for the insurance company information so I could file a claim with their insurance and have an independent investigation done, he refused. I called Sears corporate and was given an address where I could MAIL information but no one I could talk to or email. I now have NO vehicle and it looks like I'm going to have to pay an attorney to get Sears to pay for the damage to my engine. My new RULE - after an oil change, check the dipstick yourself BEFORE you drive away.
