Front brake replacement noise
This about my Subaru Forester, 2006 which I took to Sears Auto Center at Oakland Mall in Troy, MI.
I took my Subaru Forester, 2006 (49, 400miles) to change the front brakes ( pads, rotors & complete kit ) on 5/08/2011. The very next day I heard ghup – ghup sound started coming from the front wheels during the stop and go traffic.
It could be distinctly heard when I applied the brakes and release and then apply again. I called Sears about this issue and was told me to get the car in. I took the car on 5/27/2011. I explained about the ghup –ghup sound coming during the stop & go traffic. Waited for 2 hrs. They investigated and found nothing ( clearly told me they hear no noise ).
Then I took the technician for the ride and made him hear the noise. He acknowledge the ghup –ghup sound and explained it is the friction noise. I clearly told him, I am too is a mechanical eng. And understand the friction noise and that my other car I have at home or the car which I rented do not make this noise. He argued that all the cars makes this sound. I told this is an unusual sound which you can hear and is irritating. After lot of discussion it was decided that the pads needs to be even out at least for 1000 miles and the sound will go.
After driving for more than 1500 mile the ghup – ghup sound is still coming. I took the car back to the store on 7/09/2011. Waited for 2 hours and same drama started, the technician, manager can’t hear any noise, everything is ok. I had to take the manager Scott . ( He did not give his business card but gave Francis Teter – Auto Center Manager). Scott told me ghup – ghup sound is normal and is heard in all the cars. I told him it is irritating noise which draws your attention and is not heard in other car. He will not listen and kept telling the same pitch.
He said to go to different Sears Auto center they would say same thing. I told him the other Sears auto is going to tell me the same pitch and want to take my car to Midas, as second opinion, - I have been working with them for last 10 years and full customer satisfaction I received and want Sears to bear the cost of $20., but he denied. There was another car next to mine which was driven by another Sears auto technician, when asked to perform the same action on the other that did not made any noise. When asked for the explanation, Scott told me it is your old car.
I would like the problem to be fixed or full refund. This was my first and last visit to Sears auto center and would tell my experience to all my friends.

They damaged my hood
They dented my car hood !!
I took my Buick 02 Century which is totally fine to Sears Autocenter and have my transmission fluid changed (just for maintenance because my car runs great). After finishing doing the service, I returned back home and just 3 hours later, I discovered a dent on my car hood on the front (Which looks like a hand or palm print) as if somebody have pressed teh hood strongly and made the dent. I did not notice anything when I left sears. But I did see the dent at my home. Once I did that, I contaced them and told them about the event. They only took some photos for my car and informed me they will contact me tomorrow.
I have not heard anything from them yet !!!
Depsite the fact I am a regular customer with Sears ...

service
I went to this auto center, for a flat tire. While I was there they told me that my van was old enough to have brake inspected. I did have my brake evaluation and got new brake pads put on.
When I got home I went to take things out of the back of my van and found my flat tire.
I found out that they had put the new tire on the spare’s rim. I had to take my van back, and ended up having to buy a new rim for my new tire because the old one was damage.
I had the brake inspection in October of 2010, I took it back to them in April of 2011, since they were covered under warrant, because the brakes were squeaking, found out that they had put the wrong pads on. .
Now it’s May 2011 and My brakes are now grinding!
I fear for the condition of my Vehicle and the safety of my family!

Stay away from these guys
I dropped off my battery (under warranty, $129) to be tested. Got a call back it tested good. Went to pick it up and the long wait was ridiculous. I left and returned after a month when I had time to pick it up this past Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009 and the manager said my battery was not at the store and he could do nothing about it several times.
I received no call at all about it being discarded while under warranty. I called Sears Customer Service to report a complaint the same day and was told the District Manager would call me back within 48 hours. I received no call as of yet. I called Customer Service again this morning and was told the exact same thing again.

Car damage
Took my car for inspection. After 3 hours of sitting, they called my name and said the car was finished. When I took the car home, I noticed a piece of plastic on the floor. It came from my door window selection. I immedialtly return to Sears and told them about the broken part. The manager said they did not do it. I asked how did he know? He said, "the employee said, he didn't do it". They refused to fix the broken part. I guess I'm the liar. I will never go to Sears for auto repair.

Dilivery scam
I went to sears to buy a mattress/box spring that I saw in their flier. The flier indicated that any mattress/box spring over $599 would include free delivery. I picked out a mattress/box spring and paid for it and noticed that they werent giving me free delivery. The saleswoman didnt mention it, hoping I wouldn't say anything. When I asked about the delivery and showed her their flier she said that the sale was for a single piece over $599. I asked to talk to the MGR which totally pissed her off. After 30 min waiting the manger came and didnt want to discuss it. I explained to the manager how the details in the ad said and/or, but it did not good. I canceled the purchase and went to Sleepy's which had a better deal. I have had many problems with Sears delivery scams in past and now vow to never shop there again.

Ripped off!
I am writing after a horrible experience with the OakBrook, IL Sears Auto Center branch. Wednesday 11/24 my car had died and I had it towed to the closest location to my job due to mile restrictions on my insurance policy for road side assistance. Back in January 2010, I had a new car starter put in my car and found out that it happened to still be under warranty for another 2 months and I could go to any Sears Auto. I had my car dropped off and repaired within 4 hours, and was told it was the starter and it was replaced free of charge, due to the warranty. When I got in my car afterwards to head home, the startup lagged and I noticed the Check Engine light was on. I immediately called Sears and told them and they said I could bring it back Friday to have it tested to see what it was. I stopped off somewhere shortly after and when I tried to start my car again just an hour later it lagged and almost didn’t start which concerned me. I live near the Niles Auto Center, and they told me that I could bring it in there Friday to have it looked at also. After waiting a half hour and literally chasing down a mechanic that actually acknowledged my existence, they tested my car and said that there was a problem with the Crank Shaft Sensor and they could not fix it but I could bring it to the Shell Gas Station down the street, which I did. I brought my car there at 11am on Friday morning and waited 7 hours to get a response from the mechanic who then told me that the starter was put in wrong because the teeth within it didn’t match up. He told me he had to take the starter out and put it back in and then put the Crank Shaft Sensor in. I asked why the sensor went bad he told me he didn’t know, to take it up with Sears Auto, with the knowledge and common sense that my car was working fine on Tuesday 11/23 and there was no issue with the sensor or Sears would have told me about it instead of just replacing the starter.
Today 11/29, I contacted the manager, Matt Simmons, at the Sears in Oakbrook and told them about the incident on Wednesday that caused further issues with my car. He was very concerned and polite on the phone stating that shouldn’t have happened and he would reimburse me the money that I needed to fix the new issue, which was caused by the Starter that was put in on Wednesday. I met with Matt Simmons at 3:30pm today and showed him the receipt which just showed the labor and part price for the sensor. He stated there was nothing on there in regards to the Starter, which was the conversation that myself and the Shell mechanic had about the starter not being placed correctly. Matt Simmons contacted Shell on the phone and they proceeded to make jokes about me coming in the store just to get money. Shell told Mr. Simmons that my car was not there for 7 hours and that the sensor had nothing to do with the starter, which is not what he told me directly after charging me for the work. Mr. Simmons hung up the phone and told me that it was normal wear and tear and it was not Sear’s problem. I explained to him that the issue with the sensor didn’t even start until they put the starter in my car Wednesday. Mr. Simmons then rudely asked me how do I even know he put a sensor in my car? He could have just told me that and that I was ripped off. I said I was not a mechanic I wouldn’t know. He told me that I was just trying to receive money from him which he was not going to pay because I didn’t have proof Sears had anything to do with the sensor. He then told me to get out of his store and walked behind me to make sure I left, with more than one mechanic to witness this.
Myself and my family have been going to Sears Auto as long as I can remember, and I have never been disrespected or laughed at by anyone in a customer service role, especially a Manager, as I was today by Mr. Simmons. I have never been accused of trying to get money from anyone and his demeanor was uncalled for by kicking me out of the store, especially in front of customers. I would hope to receive some kind of an apology as I am very disappointed the way a manager would talk to anyone like he did. I am not writing to receive any form of money by any means, I was rudely shunned for not knowing about cars and was treated like a fool when I went there to resolve an issue I believe was caused and misdiagnosed by Sears. This was by far the worst experience I have had with a company, and I would hope the matter will be looked into as I feel I was ripped off and then severely talked down on.
Thank you for your time and I would hope the mannerisms that Mr. Simmons showed me today, is not a sign of the future in Sears customer service.

Very Inaccurate Price Quote
Regardless of who the owner of the car is when you're getting work done, ALWAYS read EVERYTHING they are asking anyone to sign. Even if you have to take 15 minutes to read through a lengthy contract and make people wait behind you.
My mistake was not reading the authorization for work that was given to my father to sign to make sure that the price I was quoted for the purchase of two wheels and alignment, $340, was the same price listed on the work authorization, $430. Further aggravated by his verbal claim that the authorization was only an authorization for the work to commence.
Sadly, I fully realize that the fault lay with me, as I did not insist to read myself the full breadth of the document my father was being asked to sign.
I highly suggest you all do the same - read all of everything you're asked to sign - whenever you deal with this company. Or for that matter, ANY company.
