Sears Automotive Reviews

customer service
I was in to get 4 new tires for my truck and the service/ sales people working there were to buzy selling a lady 1 new tire instead of repairng it . It took 3 sales service people to convince this lady to buy a tire so when I requested help and they told me we will be right with you I said I will take my business elsewhere since selling 1 tire is more important than selling 4. the sales/service people just stood there looking at each other. smart business .

Terrible experience
On Saturday 11/28/08, we had tires changed for the winter at sears in Muskegon. On Monday after picking up my grandson from school one of the tires on the drivers front came off. The guy that serviced us never apologized for what happened. My grandson and I could have lost our lives. The road were really bad. I also had to pay for towing!

tire sales
went to buy 2 tires from Sears and the salesman insisted that I needed 4 tires, that the 2 in front were "bald", but they were Goodyear Integrity tires with only 10, 000 miles on them. These tires are listed to wear for 60, 000 miles. He also said he wouldn't take responsibility for putting these tires on my car because I have a 4WD CRV, that should have all tires replaced, and it would void the warranty and damage my transmission. I did read my manual, and even though they recommend "that it is best to replace all four tires at the same time. if that is not possible or necessary, replace the two foront tire or two rear tires as a pair. I really feel like the guy was trying to shake me down for a $500 sale, and that I was a dumb girl who would know no better.

customer service
Took my car in for adveritised tires and oil change. The bill for the tires when installed was suddenly $250 more than the advertised price. Had them remove them and went elsewhere.
Worst part was that when they changed the opil, THEY NEVER PUT ANY OIL BACK IN MY CAR. This was not discovered until a couple months later when my engine was completely ruined. Do not do business with them unless you have a real good lawyer!!!

Terrible customer service
I went to have 4 new tires put on my car. After an hour of shopping/waiting for my car to be ready, I received a phone call from the auto department saying they could not find the piece to unlock my lug nuts. They offered to remove them anyways by breaking the locks for an additional cost. I opted to look for the piece myself and if I couldn't find it I would come back the fallowing day. Okay fine..its a new car to me and to be honest I don't know much about the subject, all I knew is I would rather have something done correctly. So when I came back to get my car they handed me a bill for an alignment. I really wasn't exspecting them to give me an alignment without replacing the tires, and why did they do this before changing the tires. Well I found out, they had a "free bay at the time". I asked why I was recommended to have an alignment with new tires and then they did the alignment before puting on the tires. This doesn't make any sense to me. It should be at their loss because they tried to cut coners and do work at a faster pace. Well besides all that, even if some don't agree with me..I asked to speak to a manager. She came out to the show room in a "huff" already aggrevated and with a prompt explaination as to why I was wrong in a very dermeaning manor with even asking me for any sort of explanation. I actually even didn't even get a chance to speak before she demanded payment. I was exspecting maybe a diplomatic explanation possibly, or at least my side of story to be heard. I am not an unreasonable person. By this time one of the other customers interupted her and quickly took my side, in which she also quickly disregarded anything he was attempting to say as well. I told her I felt it was unfair that they exspected for me to pay for their "mistake", and she responded to this by treatning to have an mechanics lean put on my car and that she would call the mall security. She also told me I could not get my car back until I paid, which I thought was funny since I was volunterily still there trying to work something out with them..car keys in hand. Even one of her co-workers amitted to her bad diposition and lack of handing the situation properly. I paid the bill, as security circled my car and parking lot. I will never return or recommend anyone to ever go to Sears ever again. Not because I feel as though they should have wiaved the alignment, which not only takes less then 5 mins with mechanics getting paid by the hour anyways; or because they did my alignment technically improperly before tires were put on; but because of one manager that does not have the personality or disposition to handle customer or customer complaints and should never have a job in customer service in the first place.

Attempted Overcharging
This complaint is about the automotive department at the Sears store located at the Hickory Point mall in Forsyth, Illinois.

On Saturday morning, January 10, 2009, I called automotive 3 times inquiring about tires. These calls were made between 8:30 and 9:15 am before the regular store opened. I called to be certain that there would not be any surprises because it was very slick and I did not want to waste a trip. I spoke to Sears employee Person A each time about Falken Ziex ZE-912 tires, size 205/60HR15 for my 2001 Hyundai Sonata GLS.

Person A was very helpful in telling what tires were available and quick to respond when I asked if the store matched Internet prices. She said yes and to bring in the print out of the price with shipping charges. I also asked if the store accepted Sears coupons and again the answer was yes. In addition to the aforementioned paperwork I also brought a list of tire charges from Wal-Mart hoping Sears would match them also.

I arrived at the store about 9:30 am and I was the only car in the lot. Upon entering the store I was met by Person A. I showed her the paperwork and she began the estimate for the tires. The tires with shipping were $60.22 each. Tire disposal fee of $2.00 each. State environmental fee at $2.50 each. Valve stems at $3.99 each. And Tire balance at $12.25 each.

I presented the Wal-Mart pricing and found out that the service charges could not be matched. Next, I presented 4, $5.00 off $50.00 or more coupons because the tires were over $50.00 each. Person A said I could only use one $5.00 coupon per purchase. So I asked her to split the order into 4 parts and she told me she could not because sets of tires could not be split up. I then asked her to check with some else. She walked into another room and spoke with someone who reiterated what she said.

Then, I asked for the automotive manager. So a page was made to Person B. After waiting for a few minutes Person B came back to automotive and went into another room with Person A and another person. Person A and Person B came out and I was informed that the tires had to be sold as a set of four. I questioned Person B and informed him that I should be able to buy tires in any number that I wanted because I was the customer. This did not make Person B happy.

Still seeking satisfaction, I asked for a store manager and was told that she was on vacation. Person A then informed me that Person B instructed her to add a tire mounting charge of $8.50 each. So, at this point Sears was going to charge me $24.74 in service charges (no road hazard) for each tire that I was buying. I thought my head was going to explode since Wal-Mart would have charged $7.50 for these services. I then asked for the district manager and they would not give me the name or phone number. They didn’t offer to have anyone call me at anytime. It was at that point that I fully understood why the store was not busy.

I went home and called another Sears store and was told to call corporate relations at 800.549.4505. I was on the phone with Person C for 36 minutes. She took down my information and called Person B. I asked Person C who the district manager was and she couldn’t help me. She said the Store manager would have to help me. So I would have to wait. Rather than waiting I’m sending this in hopes of warning others to beware of Sears Automotive in Forsyth, Illinois. They mislead you into coming to the store. Then they try to SCREW you.

Did not have promised item
Needed tires: Called for price and availability of a set of tires. Was told by Kevin that they have the tires in stock.
100 miles round trip from home. Left work early.
Dropped off truck. Left cell # with Kevin.
Was told will be ready within the hour.
After an hour, came back to see if it was ready.
As I approached the counter, a different employee asked if my name was Jones . We don't have the tires.
Why didn't you call me?
I just came on shift.
I will not be spending another hard earned dollar at this auto center or retail store.

Unprofessional customer service
On 05/05/08 I took my car in to Sears Automotive to purchase two new tires, since I was getting two new tires, I decided to get an alingment done on my car, even though the alingment on my car was perfect (i thought since i was getting two new tires i should). It did not take to much time to have the work done on my car. Once they were completed with my car, I got in it and started to drive away. Right away I realized that the steering was very hard (stiff) and that my car was steering to the LEFT rather than straight. Since I had to go to work, I could not turn around that day. So, I insted went back to Sears Automotive on 05/06/08 so they can fix the car alingment, this time the customer service was not good, they hardly had anybody working that day. Once they were finished with my car, I drove off again. Once more the alignment of my verhicle was not good, it was steering even more to the left. Since I was leaving out of town, I could not take my car back the next day, so I went back to the store on 05/12/08, in a very calm, nice matter, I asked the customer service representative to please let me speak with the Supervisor. The supervisor made his way to the section I was at of the store, and ingored me and pretended to be doing something else, he finally then goes towards me with an attitude. I explained to the supervisor that I was being inconvenienced for the 3rd time by brining my car into the store, so they could fix the alingment. I explained that when I initially brought car in the alingment on my car was PERFECT, and the only reason I got an aligment done was because I purchased two new tires. I told him that once I drive away, the alingment on my car is HORRIBLE, it steers to the LEFT rather than straight. In a very UNPROFESSIONAL MATTER he started raising his voice at me, and said that he does not know if my car was good or not, he cannot take my word, he then said the streets are uneven and that is why your car is steering to the left. He then told me that he thinks, I don't know what an aligment is...Again in a calm voice, I told him I know what an aligment is, I know that streets are uneven at times, and I know for a fact that the aligment on my car is not straight, and steering to the left, I asked him if he could please get a qualified technician to do the alignment on my car...He claimed they are all qualified techicians, and he said that the alingment on my car was good, this according to the specs that he is given from his computer screen...Soooo they took my car back into the shop where a technician was to preform the alignment...The techncian working on my car called me to the back, because he wanted to show me what his computer is reading, he said that he did everything and the car is still not going to be aligned straight. The technician claimed that I was in an accident or my car was in an accident, and that is the reason why the alingment on my car is not going to be straight. MY CAR HAS NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, THE ALIGNMENT WAS PERFECT BEFORE THE DREADFUL DAY I TOOK IT INTO THE SEARS AUTOSHOP. The experience at this Autoshop was HORRIBLE. Also, the Supervisor whom I spoke with, was actually the Department Manager and his name is JAVIER RIOS...He tried to belittle me, and was very unprofessionl and rude. The technician who worked on my car his name was George (I have his last name, but I will not disclose it, as he was only trying to do his job, even though he too tried giving me an attitude). I WILL NEVER EVER RECOMEND ANYONE TO GET AN ALIGMENT DONE AT SEARS, EVEN IF IT IS FREE (I had to pay, and they did not even want to give me a refund, they keep saying oh you have a 6000 mile warranty on it). IF YOU WANT NEW TIRES OK...ANYBODY CAN PUT NEW TIRES I CAN PUT NEW TIRES...BUT FOR ANYTHING ELSE I RECOMEND YOU TAKE YOUR CAR TO THE CAR MANUFACTURER OR CERTIFIED TRAINED TECHNICIANS OF YOUR CARS MODEL, OR A CERTIFIED WELL KNOWN AUTO SHOP... Javier Rios the Dept. Manager very unprofessional and RUDE... Oh the only nice person was the Customer service representative who does the paper work. He was very pleasant and helpful in his own way.

Terrible service!
I purchased tires from Sears Automotive and had them installed when they arrived in the shop a few days later. I shopped in Sears and waited in the waiting room for two and a half hours while they worked on my car. I asked if there was a problem after 2 hours and the gentleman at the front desk said that "there was a problem with the rear alignment. The technician was going to heat up the calibers and I caught him...we would have owned the car if he did this. " I couldn't believe he told me this and then he said "but he's almost done now and he's giving it a test drive he'll be right in." 15 minutes later... Not done. I was told it was going to take 15 more minutes.

I left 2 and a half hours later. I drove the next day 50 miles to visit friends, drove home another 50, drove to Boston for dinner another 25 miles... had a wonderful dinner and while pulling out of the parking garage there was a horrendous sound coming from the passenger side. We stopped the car immediately. (here I am thinking someone hit my car in the parking lot) when I look at the tire and inside the well on the tire rod is a huge vice wrench still attached to my car from the alignment almost 24 hours earlier. The wrench had a rubber grip on it, which was shredded to death. We took it off, checked the tires and drove home.

The next day was Sunday and there was no manager on duty, when I called to check. I went to Sullivan Tire and had my car checked as I was petrified to drive my car. Worried that my tires were going to fall off or something. I explained my situation to the manager there and he said he's fixed many of their problems. He guaranteed me the tires we on tight and drivable... but that they were on backwards. My tires turn out that they can only be mounted one direction. They have a special traction control where the tire is designed to lean on an edge. So the edge was on the inside. he informed me that the tires were actually really dangerous to be on that way, making my little suv much more flippable.

I drove to Sears and expressed my dismay and disappointment. The sears manager said " I installed these tires the other day and they are fine. IF the tires were on backwards they would say that with an arrow on the tire or mount this side in marked on them" I said well did you follow manufacturers specks or did you just assume? He said that he knew they weren't on backwards. I showed him the same details that Sullivan tire did and he said. If that's what you want I'll turn them around. It will only take a half hour. 15 minutes later, he came out and said. I'm really sorry about the misunderstanding. I made a big mistake. I'm sorry. I said that it would have been worst if I had been in an accident from the wrench ripping through my car somewhere or my car flipping. I will never recommend this company to any one ever!!!

He didn't care. He didn't refund any money. I don't know what to say except they suck!!
