Sears Canada Reviews

Double charged for parts
Sears Canada has a serious problem with communication between the company and customers who require service and resolution of issues.

Upon examination of my visa statement, I noted a double charge for a part I ordered by phone and picked up at the Edmonton Parts/Service Center.

February 16th I order an agitator brush for an upright Sears vacuum. I'm told I have to leave a credit card number before they will ship it to Edmonton. The part is supposed to arrive on February 19th. I explain the soonest I can pickup the part is on February 23rd and that I'm coming from out of town 1 hour. She says that's fine.

I go into the Edmonton Parts/Service Center February 23rd only to be told the part is not in yet. I explained that the order was confirmed to arrive on the 19th and that I also told the order desk that I wouldn't be in until the 23rd to pick it up. He goes to the back again to see if he can find it. Still no luck. Then a co-worker over hears the problem and starts to help him and goes down some other isle only to find the part is in. He says that'll be 49.34 cents. I explain that I had already given my credit card number and believed that it had already been paid for he. I was told that it was not paid for and that before I could take the part I would be charged the amount on my card. So the clerk swipes my visa and riings through the charge.

A few days later, I check my online banking statements and notice that not only was I charged the 49.34 on February 23rd when I picked up the part, but I was charged a second time on February 26th. I called Sear Canada only to get the royal run around and am told it's my problem and that I'll have to go back to the Edmonton Parts/Service Center to get it corrected. Like hell!

Today, March 17 once again, I'm on the phone to see why my visa has not been credited the extra charge.

1. Called 1-888-473-2772 National Service center tells me to call someone else.

2. Called 1-800-214-6751 Sears Parts tells me to call someone else.

3. Called 1-466-5151 Sears Parts Return tells me to call someone else.

4. Called 780-447-8010 Sears Edmonton Parts/Service Center.

The phone has been ringing for 10 minutes so far with no answer! What an effing joke! Since when is it up to customers to resolve Sears screw ups? This should have been handled promptly and immediately, instead I find myself asking Sears for a kiss, cause I'm seriously getting shafted!!

Damage of floor during delivery
Has anyone ever dealt with Sears, and having damage done to house while
they made a delivery? Trying to deal with my small local sears has not been easy.
Does anyone have any suggestions, or know of how to surpass my small local Sears, and go to a higher level? Any suggestions on how to deal with this most effectively?

Return Policy
I purchased Arnold Palmer men's slip-on shoes Aug.21/09, while getting a jump-start on my Christmas gifts. The shoes were too large & Sears refused to take them back. They are of no use to any family member. A gift certificate would be fine or a credit to my Sears account. These shoes are still available to purchase from catalog sales, therefore they're not out of stock, nor outdated for purchase. I've been an excellent Sears card customer for more than 10 years. Dollar stores give you a credit note or substitution, I find it appalling that a huge institution like Sears Canada not make exception for a long time customer. I'm canceling my Sears card.

Returns
On January 11th, Sears refused to exchange a small appliance Christmas gift. I find this to be a very short window of opportunity to do a gift exchange after Christmas. The reason is that I purchased the gift in late November and 30 days have passed. This doesn't encourage early shoppers. I will never buy from Sears again, and caution everyone else about their outdated returns policy.

Defective Snowblower
I bought a 27" Craftsman Snowblower from the Oshawa branch of Sears Canada in November 2008. To ensure that I would have the unit when I needed it I took out a 2 year service plan as well.

The blower functioned perfectly until January13th 2009, almost 2 months after I bought the machine. While clearing my driveway the bolt holding the drive pulleys onto the driveshaft worked loose allowing the pulley to work it's way through the plastic cover. I put a call into the service department the same day. A week later a technician came out to see the machine, borrowed my user manual and ordered the parts needed.

Two weeks later another technician arrived to fix the blower but the bolt that was needed to secure the pulley was incorrect. A new order was sent, Again the same technician came, again the bolt was incorrect. Next visit was April, again incorrect bolt. The technician told me he had put in a special order and would call when the part was ready. Well I waited, UNTIL OCTOBER. When I called again and was told that the repair was complete. Again I was told the bolt was out of stock. I was given a date of December 7th for the next visit from the technician but there was no visit. A call to Sears revealed that the part would not be ready till December 15th. Again another visit another incorrect bolt.

I have asked for a replacement snowblower but I am being given the runaround. Don't buy Sears, go to Toro or Honda if you want peace of mind.

Carpet cleaning
We booked the first time to get our carpet clean in the house and we got a call the day before (19 nov 09) the service man got sick and coul'd do it that day. Later we got a call to re-book for another date which was suppose to be today the 9 dec 09 between 15:00 hrs and 17:00 hrs. We waited all night for him to show up
but nothing not even a phone call for cancellation. My complaint is if Sears canada is contracting a company
in the town of Moose Jaw to give some kind of service to the customers and cannot keep up i suggest to get another company to do it and i should get a discount off my bill when they decide to show up in my house for cleaning my carpet one day. thank you very much and hopefully something will be done about it.

billing harrassment
Sears harrassment unwarrented, to an 87 yr old widow.

My mother has had a sears card with sears since they moved to Canada so 50yrs ago, she has always supported sears and has paid her bill always before or on time. She recently moved as her husband passed aways, so the bill got sent to the old address.
So instead of Sears credit calling and gently reminding her that her bill of $104. was over due they found it necessary to call her for times in one day, speaking loudly and quickly to her say that she had to come in immediately, stress that they would have to forward her account to a collections agency. How rude!!! Do you think Sears could possibly take the time to see who they were talking to maybe take a minute and do some back ground work to check credit or age of the person they are dealing with.

My mother and our family will no longer support sears, hope it was worth the $104. for sears!!!

Lack of action re: service agreemnt
Sears lack of customer service, lies, and dis-information

Several of my acquaintances have suffered the “frustrating maze that is customer service at Sears” as mentioned in the 2009-08-19 complaint submitted by “Kenmore No More”.

My experience with the automatons who answer phones at the customer dis-service provided by Sears is that their conduct is disgraceful. The operators who receive the calls repeat endlessly such platitudes as “I am so sorry to hear of your experience” etc. Every time I call, and unfortunately I am forced to call often.

Service representatives were sent out on the wrong days (leaving the customer waiting for 8 hours each time). Two illustrations of Sears’s dis-service techniques are as follows.

Maribeth of London has an LT clothes dryer that has ceased to function on three occasions. After lengthy mix ups about when the service contractor would arrive – she was told to “hang her clothes out on a clothes line.” I will encourage her to write on this site.

When my GE refrigerator ceased to function, twice within 3 months of the purchase date, I was told, after three mix ups of when the service representative who was supposed be at my house turned up once on the wrong date, and in other cases, not at all, that a representative would be arriving 19 days after the refrigerator ceased to function.
Obviously on both occasions that the refrigerator ceased to function the food in the refrigerator had to be scrapped. Eventually I was told by the customer dis-service representative to “put the food in another refrigerator.” (That is not a bad idea, I should get another refrigerator from somewhere other than Sears).

I am open to advice about how to penetrate such a cleverly hidden group who constitute the Sears dis-service department. Finding someone in Sears to probe these situations is daunting. I will, of course, try the Better Business Bureau and see if I can craft a letter outlining the situation to publish in newspapers.

I will appreciate hearing from others who have similar experiences with Sear’s Product, Service and Customer Service. Sometimes there is strength in numbers.

awful service
Sears Canada in Burlington - have you ever tried to get "service". They have had my vacuum for repair 2 months now. After the first month, they decided to look at it. Now into the second month they are ordering a part. Their only response...we will get back to you to see why it's taking so long!

Issue #2 - I bought a Kenmore fridge Feb/08 and the motor blew Nov '09! Surprise - one year warranty and they washed their hands!!

Issue #3 - My parents bought new fridge and stove - both came damaged and it took 6 weeks to replace!!

Issue #4 - I bought a new stove - after the first self clean the glass was totally discoloured and the response...that's what you get with self clean ovens!!! NOT, I've had one before and never had an issue

If you like to wait in a loooooong line up of customer service people who will get you to the right people...good luck with that, you NEVER reach them. Shame we only have two department stores in Canada
