Elite Washer Model #110.27086603
F1 code like a lot of people. Model #110.27086603. I just got off the phone with Sears and they said I was not included in any recall and would have to pay over $250.00 to fix this issue. Sears has a recall on this issue, but my serial number is not included. I cannot believe that my issue is any different from everyone else's. I would like to know why some get fixed and others do not, as this issue is the same across the board. By the looks of all I have read, Sears is selective about the machines the will fix and screw the rest. I do not think this issue will go away because Sears sold so many of these units. I know I paid close to $2, 000.00 for the pair and now it looks like I will have to replace them. I am just not that confident that Sears will take care of everyone with this problem. I have also read that after the control board has been replaced, the F1 error begins again after a short while. If this has happened to you, please respond. Also let me know if there is a class action suit for this. If there isn't, should we get one started?
Thanks!!!

Oven door exploded
Kenmore Model 790.47849403. My mother nearly suffered serious injuries when her Kenmore oven door (about 3 yrs old) exploded sending glass across her kitchen and living room. She cooked a dish at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes, turned off the oven, and about 30 minutes later the glass/door exploded. After searching the internet it appears that this is happening frequently to ovens all over the world and across many makes/models of ovens, but Kenmore seems to be the worst offender. Why isn't there more press about this?! Stay away from Kenmore appliances, not as good as they once were.

Customer Service
I have always shopped Sears for appliances but that ends today. The quality seems fine although I have had 4 service calls on a top load washer in 4 years. Every service call is a struggle but yesterday was the icing on the cake. Our appointment was for the hours between 1 and 5. When no one called or showed up by 4:45 I called the service number shown on our confirmation. After a 20 minute hold I was finally told that the tech was running late, should be there soon. I called again at 5:30 (20 minute hold) and was told he was still on his way but if he didn't show in a half and hour to call back. I called back at 6:15 (20 minute hold) and was told they were having system wide problems and the techs coudn't see their routes, they would have to reschedule me for the next available appointment. I said that was unacceptable since I had already waited my turn and they transfered me to a "customer solutions representative", another 30 minute hold. What a joke that was. Some clown named Robert answered the line finally and he was RUDE and combative. Although he kept giving me the same line over & over how sorry he was he was totally unwilling to do anything but reschedule me for a week later, and then he was unable to even give me confirmation by email of my rescheduled appointment. I was very leery due to his demeanor so I declined and went to their website and recheduled myself. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR FROM A COMPANY WHO SET THE STANDARDS YEARS AGO. From this day forward I will spend my hard earned money elsewhere, and that includes their total product line. SHOPPERS BEWARE !!

Overcharged
I purchased a new cook top from Sears and paid Sears send someone to measure our existing cut out to make sure it fit in the space we had. The Sears sub-contractor came back a second time on his own to double check without me asking and I found out now they charged me for that visit. They came to install the cook top and new electric line because we needed 50 amp, when they placed the new cook top on the counter it did not fit the cut out. The installer stated he would need to charge an additional $195.00 to cut an inch off each end of the counter; I agreed because they already had everything apart and the new electric line was already installed even though I thought I should not pay anything since I paid for measurements. To make a long story shorter, I found out they charged my credit card $585.00 dollars. I called the installer and he said he told me it was $195.00 times three because he had to also notch out 3 drawers. So I paid $1800.00 for the range, $585.00 for cutting the counter, $550.00 for the new electric line and about $120.00 for measurements. Almost $3, 000.00 bucks for a Kenmore cook top. Called Sears and they said the Supervisors determined that I signed the papers and they cannot do anything about the charges.

oven smokes & catches fire
I have had my Kenmore range for less than two years. I maybe use my oven once a week. After 6 months of use, the oven started to smoke and sometimes catch fire. There were no spills. It has progressively gotten worse. Is there a recall on these ranges?

Refrigerator & Extended Warranty
We purchased the Kenmore Elite side-by-side in 2004, and have renewed the MPA every year since (good thing we did). FWIW, all major appliances here were purchased at Sears-Electrolux stove, Whirlpool washer and dryer, Bosch dishwasher, and I have been a Sears major appliance customer for 25 years and in 4 states.
The Kenmore fridge has been a lemon, requiring 1-3 service calls per year, most but not all service issues being for the icemaker. The icemaker continues to malfunction, at several points freezing over and then dumping water on the floor, which will require the replacement of the hardwood flooring in that part of our kitchen.
On November 26, shortly before Thanksgiving, I reported a new problem. The fan that circulates the air within the refrigerator started emitting a loud buzzing noise, discernible throughout the house. Besides being an annoyance, our concern was that the sound presaged the death of the appliance on Thanksgiving day.
The bright side was that the Sears CS rep who took the complaint told me that this was my 4th issue with the unit in 12 months, and that I qualified for replacement under Paragraph 8 of the MPA (who knew?). All it required was confirmation by the service technician. On November 30, Sears technician Stefan arrived for the service call, HEARD the refrigerator noise before entering the kitchen, and confirmed that there was a problem. I also showed him he malfunctioning ice maker unit, which he confirmed as broken and replaced. Stefan also said that as this was my 4th service call in 12 months, that I should begin the replacement process immediately by contacting Sears CS the next day.
So far so good, right? The replacement ice maker that Stefan installed was defective (photo attached). The wire overflow indicator that signals a full tray was broken, out of the box. And to add insult to injury, Sears CS rep Tomika (sp?) told me in no uncertain terms that I did not qualify for a replacement, as I had not had 4 identical, single ticket issues within 12 months. Apparently, repeated trips for the same issue count as one service ticket. This policy was confirmed by Social Media CS rep Zack (sp?).
So here are the issues:
A Kenmore Elite product with well documented service problems and 6 years of coverage under MPAs.
An assurance of replacement by a Sears representative, confirmed by a Sears service technician, due to 4 service calls within a 12 month period, per P.8 in the MPA.
A reneging of this promise by Sears CS reps
Installation of a defective part by a Sear service technician, requiring yet another service call
A still-broken Kenmore appliance, resting comfortably in front of the floorboards it ruined.,
Upon reflection, it makes you wonder why I would want another Kenmore appliance. But after paying over $700 over six years for the MPA I feel that it is incumbent upon Sears to stand by this agreement and their products. To date, that has not happened.

Oven Door
Has anyone else's oven door been difficult to open and keep open, with a tendency to slam back up? And the handle breaking off like the cheap plastic and screws affair that it is?

no lights in refrigerator model # 795.77314600
Sears Kenmore Trio refrigerator model 795.77314600 made in september 2009. Almost 4 years later, both overhead lights located at the front of the unit only flash for an instant when the upper switches are pressed, so they no longer stay lit. Sears says there is no recall, so now what do I do. Our local electrician checked all the connections and said the problem is most likely in the computer board. Now what? We don't feel we should pay the 400-500 dollars to have sears come out and fix it. We feel cheated. We only bought the frig 2 years ago.

Dehumidifier
We live in Minnesota. Sometimes we have a dry spring/summer, sometimes we don't (well this year 2010--we have a very WET rainy moist season) and we have a nice home and so we definitely needed a dehumidifier. Well, I purchased a Sears/Kenmore dehumidifier on June 1, 2007. I used it for June, July, Aug, Sept. (don't need it the rest of the year), then in 2008 I used it May, June, July, Aug. Sept. In 2009, the dehumidifier died, and I didn't know Sears could fix dehumifiers, so I left it go. Well in 2010, we have had a huge amount of SNOW in winter, plus lots of rain, and I definitely needed to go out and buy a dehumidifier. So I just purchased a Westinghouse 50 pt. unit from a local store in town. Well someone said, get your Sears product looked at because Sears stands behind their product. So I stopped at Hutchinson, talked to mgr. Brett, and he said bring it in--and they will send it in to be evaluated as to YES or NO to fix it. Well, I finally wound up calling Sears in Hutchinson back--to see if they had heard anything, and Sears in Hutch gave me a number to call. So the repair people call me back--left a voice message (because I wasn't at home) stating--it will cost me $77.24 to fix it. Call them back with a YES or NO fix or NOT fix. So I called the Hutchinson Mgr. Brett again, and talked to him, and he pretty much said it is a one year warranty, that's it--you are SOL a warranty is just that--boom when that is out--you are screwed. I was not happy so Brett gave me an 800%# to call. 1-800--4-MYHOME to see if they would cover or honor to fix it, because he wouldn't. So I talked with a guy by the name of Walter, and after I explained my scenario to him, he referred me onto this number--1-888-536-6673 and I explained my information to that person--and they said, Walter referred me onto the wrong number. So I called 1-800-785-8897 and spoke to a guy by the name of Manfred, in Arizona, and he gave me a number that directed me to a Microwave Hood Safety Recall Line which deals with Whirlpool, Kenmore, or others for the years 1998-2001. Well, I didn't have a Microwave Hood that I wanted help on--so I called another number, and talked to Jackie--some supervisor at Kenmore and she pretty much said, it wasn't Kenmore's fault, it's Sears problem, and when you talked to Sears they said it was Kenmore's problem. So I finally called the Hutchinson, MN mgr. back once more and he was out, but the lady said she'd have him call me before 12:15. He called back in about 15 minutes. I've already called him about 6-7 times this week, as he is not in the store much, he sets his own hours, according to the employee's conversations. Anyway, explained that I got NO WHERE with Sears, Kenmore, or any of the guru's related to Sears/Kenmore dehumidifiers. And Brett (the mgr) said, to be truthful lady, "you just want something for nothing", "you, just don't want to pay for it." The warranty is out, which you agreed upon, and even though you didn't use it a lot during some of those years, a warranty is a warranty, and you just want it fixed for nothing. I was TOTALLY offended. I said, Brett, my time is of value too, I spent over an hour this morning with ALL of the various SEARS/KENMORE people, and I should be worth $20, plus I called him about 6-7 times this week so that is worth about $3.00. Brett then said, I make $21 an hour and his time is valuable too. He said, weren't you also complaining about some computer problem too??? I said, WHAT--I worked at Ridgewater College in Hutchinson and I purchased my computers through them, I don't buy computers from Sears??? So now he has ME confused with another person. I also told him about 2 months ago, I purchased a new refrigerator--when all of those rebates were going on--and we called Sears--and needed a refrigerator a specific size, so we called Sears in Hutchinson and the said YES we have a white refrigerator in that size--well when we got to Hutchinson, (about 15 miles away for us to drive there), SEARS did not have a white refrigerator with those size measurements. So we wound up going to another local store in Hutchinson and purchasing a refrigerator there. Brett, then said, well you know they have the same warranty with THEIR refrigerators. Well, I said at least Frigridaire will stand behine their product, it is obvious Sears isn't going to. Well, then I said to the mrg. Brett, that my time is valuable too ($20) an hour, and he said his is worth $21, I just about had had it with his attitude. I said, well I guess you get paid more an hour than I do, he said, yes--that's right. I said, I don't get that much on disability, I get $600 a month for me to live on, and then I hung up on Brett the Hutchinson mgr. I then decided to call back, and I told the lady--make sure you tell Brett to call the SEARS people and DO NOT FIX the dehumidifier--when it comes back to the Hutchinson store, just throw it away--because it is a piece of junk. This is suppose to be a great day, it is my granddaughter's 7th birthday today. And now I have to put on a SMILE--even though I've been treated like crap by ALL of the SEARS/KENMORE people today. Thanks alot.

Repair Customer Service
Boy has this American company found a new low. Was unable to find an online, on the phone or supervisor with ANY level of appropriate customer service when attempting to schedule a repair on a Kenmore Elite dishwasher that has already had a major repair done by them when still under warranty. Appointment scheduling rep on the phone became angry with me when she was unable to find our record with all of the valid present and historic phone number, names, address (that they had already been to) I was supplying. It was as if she believed I was beneath her and unable to correctly provide my own information...couldn't be that she was unable to correctly access it from their database?? After reluctantly creating a new record the charge for service was $10 more than what is clearly listed online. "My location" she explained. Asked about 10% for "ANY in home service repair" and was told that was for new appliance purchase only. Funny that it clearly reads "in home service repair". I think I will just purchase a new--NON Kenmore--dishwasher so I don't ever have to bother Sears Repair service again.
