Paid bill early - can't get credit
My name is Jimmy D. Overton. I have had a Sears account for too many years to recall. On Oct. 1, 2010, I mailed a $60 check to Sears MasterCard. I did not receive credit for that payment and received late fees. I took my bank statement showing the check cleared Wells Fargo/Wachovia to our local store manager but the Mastercard folks wouldn't believe the Sears person. They asked for a cancelled check so I went to the bank and was told with automated checks no cancelled check was available but I was provided a Transit Routing form proving payment was received and made from the bank. Still it's not enough "proof of payment" for Citicorp. It has been such a headache we have decided to find someone else to do business with other than Sears. In 2010 alone we purchased a washer, dryer and freezer but it will be worth our money to do business where we get credit for being good customers who have paid their bills on time for years.

huge interest rate increases
we have been loyal sears and kmart customers for years. on our new bills our interest rates have skyrocketed. no late payments. every time you go in either the clerks are hawking using the sears card. i would warn kmart not to do this anymore. we are taking our business elsewhere, and we do a LOT of business in the pharmacy.

erroneous billing and shoddy accounting
For the last two-three years I have been trying to get Citicard (Sears Mastercard) to correct erroneous charges and reckless accounting on a credit card I had with them. I have sent letters to the president of Citicard, I have filed complaints with the OCC (still under investigation), all to no avail. Until last month when I told them I REFUSED to pay another dime until they got my account straight, I was FORCED to pay minimum payment on erroneous charges to protect my credit which is PERFECT. When asked to provide an accounting, they sent a list (both to me and the OCC) of payments and finance charges and other unrecognizable activity. No accounting as to how they came up with the balance. They are cocky, unapologetic and now are calling me on my cell phone to further bully. I PAID OFF THIS CREDIT CARD OVER A YEAR AGO. I have NEVER had a late payment on any loan or credit card. I am being financially blackmailed - forced to pay or have my credit compromised. They are unintimidated by the OCC and treat it as a joke. They have now raised the interest rate from 6.99 to 27% and charged me 39.00 for a late fee - all because I told them I would NOT pay another dime until they provided proof that it was correct -which they cannot do. I notified them by certified mail AGAIN that I wanted an accounting of HOW they came up with the amount they say I owe. I have over 200 pages of information, correspondance, etc... I got a letter back from Stephen Neal in the Presidents Office at Citigroup stating that they would not respond to any more letters that I send. They also cut me off from being able to email customer service from the Sears Mastercard site. Many payments I sent originially were not posted correctly - ie...I would send a payment for $200.00 and they would post $177.95 on my account. That happened time and time again. They charged me three times for a single purchase. They later backed it out but the finance charges are so messed up because of the entries that it is undiscernable. They call me on my business cell phone 7 days a week, at least 3-4 times a day. Often times they just hang up on me. I have an appointment with an attorney this week. And they wonder why they are going under...Geez!

Rotten tactics to charge late fees
I have automatic payments scheduled to Sears Mastercard to avoid late fees and hassles in general. Apparently, Sears is going directly after folks like me. My May bill was due 6-05-2008. My June bill was due on 6-29-2008! My July bill is due 8-10-2008! My account was credited with a payment on 7-03-2008, but I was charged a late fee of $39.00 and late charges on my balance. Of course I called and had the charges removed, which was done, but there are several issues here that just make me sick. The culprit, according to Sears, is a 20 billing cycle to adjust for accounting stuff. I was told by the account rep or whatever she was, that it was due to a 'walking' billing cycle and the way the days of the week were (she actually said this). She also told me I was free to go to their website to check on billing cycles and such. I told her I shouldn't have to worry about a company shifting their billing cycle and that their accounting adjustment was designed to charge late fees and penalties to those of us who pay on a schedule like online banking. This accomplishes a couple of important things for Sears. First, Sears gets late fees and penalties for those who don't look at their bills for whatever reason, thinking that automatic payments have them covered. Sears also charges penalties on the amount owed, so Sears gets an extra month or so in interest charges (but I think technically, they are not interest charges). Also, for those trusting souls who transferred balances at sweetheart deals when credit cards were begging to have you transfer them, they now have to pay the highest rates chargeable for the remaining balances! How's that for rewarding responsibility? Anyway, check your latest billing to see if this rotten company caught you in their trolling nets. I'm canceling my Sears Mastercard, but I think I should at least try and warn the world of responsible consumers that their credit card companies are out to get them.
