Sears Reviews

Don't do business with them
I am another consumer caught in Sears limbo.

Our hot water heater decided to give up the ghost on Christmas. I immediately got online and ordered a replacement with expedited delivery. The water heater was supposed to arrive yesterday. Emphasis on “supposed”.

I took the day off work to wait for the water heater that never arrived. After approximately 12 phone calls (including being transferred to the same departments a few times) and waiting on hold for at least 10 minutes with each transfer, I was finally able to find out that my water heater wasn’t delivered because it was out of stock. Wouldn’t it have been more efficient to update the website to reflect that and offer other in-stock choices?

Anyway, since the order is still “processing” (even though my bank account was promptly debited for the entire purchase price plus $142 for expedited shipping), I cannot get a refund. The status will change only when the water heater is restocked. Who in h*** knows when that will be?

So, here I sit….no hot water heater, no money to buy another one until Sears gives me my money back. To save time, I opened a dispute with PayPal. I may see my money in 30 days. The silver lining is I have very nice neighbors who are allowing me to use their shower

and I have wised up to never doing business with Sears again. Everyone else would be smart to do the same.

appliance warranty service
Had a service on a 3 month old dryer scheduled for 12-23 and they promised knowing we had company coming in town. Not only did they cancel last minute on the 23rd but cancelled again on 1-7 at 6pm after three calls throughout the day telling us they were 10 minutes away. After that we were given NO priority and sit here scheduled for THE NEXT AVAILABLE DAY 3 WEEKS FROM NOW! After screwing us twice we get no priority and no sympathy! Screw you sears, it's anywhere but at Sears for me from now on!

Cosmetic problem
This was never resolved on my part. Sears sent a repair man to take the door apart to clean the window (can not be reached any other way). It took him quite some time to do it. When I asked him what am I supposed to do when it gets dirty again when I clean it, I can not take the door apart, he suggested the only way is to manually clean my oven, so its not dirty when the self clean is used. I could not believe what I heard!! He could not remove the yellow staining on the exterior of the door & back panel. He said that was all he & Sears could do, it didn't affect the function of the range. This range was 8mos old. I will never buy another appliance from Sears. They don't care. I got sent from Sears to the manufacturer & they sent me back to Sears. I moved & sold that range at a great loss.

Rip off
Thursday night (12/23/2010), I went up to Sears Home Repair Parts & Service Center in Seattle, WA to buy a part for my Kenmore refrigerator. They told me on the phone that they would hold the part aside for me. They didn't. The woman was a bit rude, but I brushed it off. The part cost me $16.84 which I paid with my debit card.

The next day, Friday, Christmas Eve, midday, I decided to check my bank balance and see that Sears charged me $166.84 (despite the receipt said $16.84). Of course the service store is closed until Monday. I called customer service and no one even tried to help me. Since I had made some other purchases before seeing the error, I am probably overdrawn so fees will be on the way. Since the location is closed for the holidays I cannot do anything until Monday so I have no money for the weekend.

Repair service
I have been a customer of Sears for over 30 years. Having bought numerous appliances over the years. I always purchase the extended warranty on the clothes washer as they seem to need repairs.

I called for repair service on 1-3-11 and was told the serviceman would be here on 1-7-11. Tonight I received a call informing me that the technician was overbooked and could not be here until 1-13-11. This is rediculous...I wonder had I not had the service contract and they already had been paid for any repairs would it take that long.

This is not acceptable with me and I will not purchase another appliance from Sears. I will also inform anyone that will listen that Sears is not the company it once was. Customer Satisfaction quaranteed...NOT.

No shipment
A month after purchasing two sofas from Sears they have not been shipped and no one will explain why. Customer service reads from a script and wishes me a happy day. This is just rediculous and highway robbery. Their on site add still after all of this time says 'in-stock and availavle for shipping. Customer service has actually told me to find it myself.

Bad service
We called sears after our six month old fridge went out. After getting a runaround they gave us a date a repairman would be out a week and a half later. He comes and says he has to order parts. Then sets a date another week and a half later. He comes again, breaks the part and orders another part that comes the next day but he can't come back for another week. We give specific details that they have to call first because we are going out of town and have to have someone meet him he shows up without calling and promptly leaves and when we nicely expressed our dismay they hung up on us and will not return our calls. We have been without a fridge for over a month and there is no end in sight, we have been patient but this is unacceptable. If you buy an appliance, don't go to Sears and don't buy a Samsung.

Furnance has Carbon Monoxide Leak
We have always been consumers of Sears products, from our first washing machine back in 1968 to all our replacement appliances, lawn care equipment and all our power tools. We have been very happy with the products we purchased from Sears. So when it came time to replace our old furnace we went to Sears and purchased a Quantum 90 on April 28, 2008.
For the first winter season we had the new system it worked fine, kept our house warm during the harsh Illinois winters. Unfortunately, it was not the same the second winter. In January the temperatures dropped to 10 degrees below zero for a week with the winds 30 mph. The furnace would not turn on, so we called Sears Service and they replied that they could have someone out in two weeks, that is not what customers want to hear during the cold weather. We had to repeatedly turn the furnace on and off until it ignited and stayed ignited.
Early this fall, we had the furnace serviced not to experience problems this winter. Unfortunately we have been having a problem with Carbon Monoxide leaking. Sears service came out on December 28, 2010 and confirmed the it was the furnace and it will need new seals. A two year old furnace should not need to have the seals replaced unless it is poorly designed furnace. The seals which cost us $368.59 were to be delivered overnight, it is January 3rd and we still have not received the seals. Now it is a week and we cannot use our furnace. If the seals do not fix the problem they may have to replace the circulating motor. We can only imagine how long that will take, maybe another week or two without heat at temperatures below freezing every night. We had to purchase three space heaters at $59.99 each. By keeping the bedroom doors shut with these three heaters, the temperature in the house is between 58 to 62 degrees, this only keeps the water pipes from freezing, not comfortable to live in.
On our contract it states "Satisfaction Guaranteed". We are not happy that we spent $6, 987 on a furnace that we cannot rely on to supply heat to keep us comfortable and safe during the cold winters. Because we are having these bad experiences we can and will not recommend any furnace sold by Sears Home Improvement department or the service department to any of our friends or family. We are very disappointed with this furnace. No customer wants to purchase a product and have it malfunction within the first 5 years of a 15 year warranty. If we could afford to purchase a new furnace, we would dump this furnace at the front door of a Sears store with a sign stating all the problems and a warning to "purchase a furnace here at your own risk".
We were just informed that the parts will not arrive for another month. A month with out heat in temperatures below zero.

Kenmore Washer
My girlfriend bought a Kenmore washer from Sears Model # 110.29422801. A week after the one year warranty on the unit ended she had an issue with the washer not moving from rinse to the spin cycle. When she called Sears, they refused to fix her problem for free given that her warranty had expired only a WEEK prior to the purchase date. Now here we are less than six months after having the same issue again. I understand that things break but washing machine that has had the same issue twice in under two years sounds like a lemon to me. I have called Sears and so far they have refused to stand be hind there product. They have asked that I call another dept in the morning. I will update this post as we progress to let you know how Sears does.
