Back in October 2007, a friend of mine and myself signed a 6 month lease with these apartments. After about a month, my roommate got into heavy partying and would come home obliterated. Only 2 months after signing the lease, my roommate finally physically assaulted me and left me with several bruises because of a glass that I had left on the counter. A police report was filed, however I did not press charges because doing so meant that he would immediately be arrested and I could not afford to pay rent on my own. I was stuck. I approached the complex manager and had explained what happened with bruises to show and they refused "under any circumstances" to not let me break the lease. It had only been 2 months, our apartment was in perfect condition, they had my deposit still, and they would not even negotiate an amount to break the lease. One week later, my roommate assaulted me again, leaving me with more bruises and another hard situation .. arrest him and pay $1000 a month alone or break the lease and just leave. With ZERO help from the managers at Seville, I chose to just leave.
Rent being due the first of each month, I left on January 5, 2007. The apartment as I left it, was in PERFECT move-in condition. Not a stain, not a water spot, not a single ounce of dust on a mirror was left behind. I even TOLD THEM that I would not stay any longer and wait around for my roommate to put me in a box the next time he got angry. They "understood but unfortunately" still would not negotiate a release amount for me. I put my keys into the dropbox and both me and my roommate vacated the apartment in the condition above.
Its been 2 years, almost exactly since signing that lease. 2 years with not a single letter, phone call, or email from Seville on the Green. NONE of my contact info has changed. And just 3 weeks ago, I am now receiving notice from National Credit Systems and Seville on the Green that I owe them $2250.85. No one will tell me what that balance is for or why it has taken 2 years and contact from a collection agency for me to figure this all out.
I bailed, I understand. Times werent any better back then and regardless of the roommate, paying $1000 a month on my own was out of the question, I just couldnt do it. The collection agency will not return my calls nor tell me what that amount is for. Seville on the Green only transfers me to the collection agency and again, will not tell me what that amount is for. What can I do to resolve this? I can not pay the full amount, but I can make payments and would have done so much sooner had I known 2 years earlier.
