just purchased our first puppy...unfortunately had the misfortune of dealing with Shake A Paw in Hicksville. Our puppy came home and was in our house for less than 24 hours before I took her to the animal hospital, where they informed me after x rays that she has a very bad pneumonia and was "not fit for sale"...
at Shake A Paw they led me to believe that a Vet comes in weekly to check the puppies...not entirely true...the Vet comes in to check the new arrivals and administer any shots that are required, but does not check others unless they have very bad symptoms. Being a new dog owner I thought she was subdued, but just thought it was puppy nerves... I would like to believe that some one (ex: the people that work there) would be more in tune with the animals they are selling.
My other complaint about Shake A Paw is more just a heads up...their prices on supplies are astronomical compared to other outlets where you can purchase the same items. Do not purchase supplies from them, go to Petco or Petsmart, or even Amazon. As far as my puppy she will recover after spending a week in the hospital...Shake A Paw will pay all the bills (thousands of dollars - they lost money on us) associated with the illness, but if my pup came home with Pneumonia...others there have it, as it is highly conatgious to other dogs. Beware of Shake A Paw and really any puppy store...this was a learning experience, I hope others considering a puppy will learn from.
