Shell Vacations Reviews

bait and switch
Purchased a 159$ "opportunity" to visit up to 4 locations to hear their time share presentation.
After deciding where we would like to travel were told we must submit 4 nights x3 at least 2 weeks apart - a fact that was not seen in literature or heard in phone presentation. There of course is an "upgrade" available for 30$/night, in addition to the 12 to 14$ tax and resort fee of 15$ per night Talk about a money waste!!!
Has anyone looked into the fraud of this company - we would worry about any contact at all and/or getting hung out to dry if we did make arrangements - My thinking is they are making their money on the 159$ that we and many others are donating after the frustration of trying to schedule a resort visit.

The excuses continue..
You want to come out smelling like the rose when your stuff stinks! Please do not make this our fault it will only add to my hopes that the AG will spend lots of time in your books. It is hard to use the correct account number when your statement has the incorrect number on it for three different statements. Am I suppose to close my eyes and randomly pick a number and hope that is the right account. I have been using the same account number since 1998!!! All of a sudden that is not the right account!! Your manager in Hawaii even admitted to us that she put the wrong account number on the statement and we double checked with her to make sure where we were to send the payments and to what account. Please do not act like you are the innocent party in this and that we can't figure out how to pay our bills. The only intelligence you are insulting is your own. We even went on the online payment area and put in all the account numbers that were given to us by Shell Vacation and guess what...all but one came back invalid (which we took screen shots of and will be sharing in our AG complaint) and that account number is the one that we have been using since 1998!! So please spare me the drama of how you properly instructed us on how to manage the account because you know that never happened. Every time we attempt to talk to Shell Vacation we can hardly get past a customer rep and then they get defensive when you try to discuss anything with them. They act like you are asking them to take the money out of their own pocket. And BTW, just to keep the story straight the problem did not come from checks that we personally wrote because on this account we paid our bill online and have for several years. You might want to check your facts before making inaccurate statements. We are now done giving you any information we must move forward to those who are interested in helping resolve issues.

Rip off
We are looking for anyone who would like to file a complaint with us in Arizona against Shell Vacation. We have been taken for so much money by these con artists that we are now going to the Attorney General office and then it is off to the attorneys to get back what is rightfully ours...our money. We have been billed multiple times throughout the year with statements that have wrong account numbers. Our payments went to wrong accounts and then they were unable (or not smart enough) to figure out where the money went...also known as bad billing practices!! We have tried talking to the company in Arizona (not worth our time) and then off to Chicago and then to the big Kahuna's in Hawaii (again a waste of time). So Shell Vacation leaves you no other choice but to file suit and retrieve what money you possibly can. Let us know if you have any interest in sharing your story at the Arizona AG's office.

Awful customer service
I have tried for over a year to use the certificate provided AFTER I purchased the timeshare. I am sure that Shell Vacations knows that the company that they are using does not follow through. I am sorry that my money has been wasted. I have already filed a complaint with the BBB regarding the practices. I was very hopeful that I had found an honest company for once. They appear to be just like all of the others.

Making contact is also very difficult; crazy business hours. I would not recommend to any other of my friends...Not Now!

Close this business!
If you wish to shut down their business . . all of your complaints should be forwarded on to events at which Shell or one of its contracted marketing groups does their marketing (invites people down for "free" gifts) so that maybe they won't allow their booths to be set up their anymore. These venues include LA county fair, Orange county fair, *** Prides (Long Beach, LA), Bridal Shows (Bride world, Bridal Showplace, Here come The Brides), Hermoa Beach Labor Day and Memorial Day street festival, movie theaters (AMC, Edwards) and many others. I can list others if any of you are interested. Also, the complaints should be forwarded on to the CA Attorney Generals office. Attorney Generals in other states have filed suit against other timeshare companies like this who market in this manner . . by offering things like "free trips", "free airfare" etc. to attend one of their presentations when the "travel vouchers" are basically unredeemable. They have based the suits on fraudulent marketing and if enough people complain to the CA Attorney Generals office they may follow suit and essentially cut off all venues this company has to get people to attend their previews in the first place. Basically, if you want to do more than just post a blog, this is what you can do to essentially shut down their business totally.

Lies
I tried the explorer package and it was a huge mistake. The customer service, after a lengthy hold to get to them, is okay at best. Most have to place you on hold for long periods of time to ask question. I was told as long as I booked my flight before my points expire then it would be ok. Not so much. I now have 2 weeks to plan a trip somewhere to not waste the money. They also won't let you fly the airline you want. The only airlines they allow charge for luggage and the points can't be used for that.

Terrible Value
They hooked us in with the promise of great savings and 5 star properties. Neither is true, also they do not disclose during the presentation all of the associated fees such as $25 for transactions fees after the first 2. I bought 3500 points.

I am a member of the Vino Bello Resort which is in a industrial area on the edge of NAPA, CA (WINE COUNTRY). Actually seems to be the newest and best of all of the properties. Then you look closely at the photos of the others they appear to be tired 3 star properties with a lot of hype marketing. Also the point system is does not seem correct. For 3500 points with cost me over 18, 000. We get a week in a studio unit and must bank the rest of the points. A week during the red season cost 3200 points. I should have look at the resale timeshares availble on the net. Prices are only 20% of the purchase price.

This is a very bad deal. If you check the comments from previous resort visitors a constant complaint is thin walls. I need help to get out of this horrible deal. The Savings will never cover the cost of ownership. Anyone successful in getting a refund from Shell?

Shell needs to be sued
Shell vacations is a lie when speaking to rep on the phone he gave me the presidents of the companies name "Shelton Gittysburg" no such person. All lies, at presentation for first time buyers, yearly maintenance fees are $500 now they are up to $716 after 2 years of ownership and each year they will go up even more. If you are in collections or having late fees you lose all points for the year. All this information is not stipulated in contracts. I highly suggest researching timeshares before buying especially from shell vacations. scam artist working for shell for sure.

Slimy guys
My friend and I saw a Shell Vacation presentation in San Francisco on Oct 17, 2008. During the presentation I pointed out to the salesman that one of the drawbacks of purchasing was that there was risk involved. Rami (the salesrep) said, " I guarantee that you will not loose and that if you buy your will gain." Guess what folks... they legally (and ethically) CAN'T say those things. When I pointed it out to the Finance Rep at the end of the presentation, he didn't seem too concerned even though I made it clear that the context of his comments were in direct response to my comments on the risk related to purchasing real estate, and that those comments are illegal. These guys are slimy!

Scammers and liars
Shell Vacation Club is a rip off! I wish I would have never set foot in their office! I am now paying 15K for a "point system" that allows you to go to their barely acceptable time share locations. They throw around a book full of beautiful photos of resorts and do not tell you the extra cost involved. They are dishonest liars DO NOT BELIEVE THEIR SALES PITCH! You are much better off paying the normal fees for decent hotels. I am now spending so much money and I have no way out! Shell Vacation Club is a bunch of money making liars!
