When hired to work in a bakery, one would think those doing the baking would have a clue about cakes. Well... not at the Shop Rite in Lawrenceville, NJ. I called the bakery requesting a Jewish Apple Cake. This is a very simple cake, made with apples (not kosher by any means). It has been around a very long time. The woman in the bakery immediately tells me that they don't do Jewish Apple cakes in the bakey, but that I would need the kosher department. I was like "HUH??? it's a cake!". So she switches me to the kosher department which keeps me on hold for 10 minutes. I finally decide to call again and ask for the kosher dept on my own. So a man picks up the phone and when I tell him that I would like a Jewish Apple cake, he says to me "We're not the bakery maam". At this point I was so aggravated. In a not so nice tone, I said "No kidding, but the woman in the bakery switched me to your dept because she had no idea what a Jewish Apple cake was". He wasn't any more helpful than she was, so I simply told him that maybe someone needs to tell the woman who works in the bakery what a Jewish Apple cake is, and tell her not to switch people to another clueless department who keeps customers on hold for 10 minutes". Iuse to like Shop Rite's bakery products, but this has taught me to go elsewhere and purchase my cakes from bakers who have a clue.
