I joined Classmates.com subscribing to their Gold Membership costing me $59. Within one week I had received an additional charge on my Mastercard from a company called Shopping Essentials for $19.95. They stated in an e-mail I received after complaining the following:
Dear Rober W. Montgomery
Thank you for your email. I would like to apologize for any inconvenience you may have
experienced.
"Your membership record indicates that you agreed to try Shopping Essentials+ when you clicked on a
banner ad presented on a website you were visiting (CLASSMATES.COM). Additionally, by accepting
the trial membership, you agreed to be enrolled using the billing source that you authorized and
that after the trial membership period, you would be billed the program fee. A Welcome e-mail was
sent to the e-mail address you provided at the time of enrollment. This e-mail would have also
explained the terms of the membership as well as the benefits you are entitled to."
I do not remember clicking on a Banner AD, I never received an e-mail and I sure as heck did not give them my credit card number. This company is doing business with Classmates.com which was suppose to be a reputable site. Shopping Essentials has said they would cancel the charge on my Mastercard and cancel any supposedly trial membership I had and I am canceling my membership with Classmates.Com. I have not heard anything from Classmates regarding the security of my Credit Card Number or the cancellation of my membership and the deletion of my personal information from their data base. There are numerous complains posted on the WEB regarding this particular "Deceptive Credit Card Fraud".
