I had been looking for an older, trained shih tzu for a few weeks as my shih tzu died a few months ago. Becky Drake had a blog on the internet about her breeding company. She said she had a one year old, housetrained and command trained shih tzu for sale.
I drove three hours to find this breeder. Becky explained immediately that Kenzi (the dog) had no rabies shot but was completely housetrained. I immediately drove to a nearby vet for her rabies shot. Those should be given to puppies when they are 6 months. She also explained that Kenzi had a litter of puppies when she was 6 months old.
I found out quickly that Kenzi was not housetrained and was a very troubled dog. Her personality was so bewildering that I called in a dog trainer for her opinion. She felt that Kenzi had probably been a puppy mill dog and had led a very traumatized life.
I called Becky about this problem but she got very angry with me and would not help compensate for expenses as she was not the original breeder. I spent over $700 trying to rehabilitate this dog. When I contacted the original breeder she told me that when she sold the dog to Becky she told her of all the problems with the dog. But, Becky wanted her as a pet.
Consumers need to be warned about this breeder. She deliberated mislead me on the sale of this dog.
