Dirty Deeds Done for $75
I'm another one who had dirty dealings with Sirius XM.
My daughter chose a Sirius radio for her birthday. I was told at the time that I had to pay for 3 months at $12.89 a month for the service. I did. This was 4/3/11, so my service should have gone to 7/3/11.
On 5/28/11, I called Sirius to make sure that the subscription was not extended beyond the date for which we paid. My daughter came home tonight and told me she lost 2 of her channels. I called to get the radio refreshed (wouldn't work online) and found out that Sirius had canceled her service! I asked them to reinstate until the date we paid for, which they did. I also found out that they charged me a $75 early-termination fee that was not disclosed to me at the time I ordered the service. I was told tonight that anyone who cancels prior to having Sirius for a year is charged this fee. XM never did it to me, although I was told tonight that their policies are identical. After this last month of service ends, no more Sirius for us!

runaround with attempt to cancel
Help? Bought new vehicle last June came with free 6 month trial then bought 5 month promotion. Promotion is to expire in a few days. Was on the phone on hold multiple times total over 1 hour, was transferred to cancellation dept 3 times to be on hold for well over 10 min with each transfer. Finally reached cancellation representative and told him I wanted to cancel. As soon as I gave him my phone number the line went dead. On final call I demanded a supervisor, Jessica Garcia answered but said she was in charge only of activations and was the top and only supervisor and in a rude voice she said "as I've told you 3 times I can only transfer you back to the cancellation dept". Also went online -set up password yadda yadda yadda with sirius xm so that I could manage my account only to find choices are to activate or renew but NO CANCELLATION choice. Now have messed with this for well over 1 1/2 hrs. Who can tell me how to cancel? Don't ever subscribe to Sirus XM even for free trial. Life is too short-just use AM/FM radio.

Incessant telemarketing calls
I've been getting a couple calls a day every day from 866-301-7344. I got Sirius satellite radio free for six months in my new Volkswagen Eos. In February they started calling to remind me that my free subscription was going to run out. Now in March they keep calling but do not leave any messages. I created a custom voicemail for 866-301-7344 that asks them to remove me from their caller list and to stop calling me. So far it has not worked.
Googling 866-301-7344, I see that I'm not the only person that Sirius XM hounds with incessant phone calls. I blogged about this issue yesterday at http://www.davidlauri.com/blog/tag-Sirius.
I tried using the E-mail Customer Care form on http://www.sirius.com to let them know about this issue, but the e-mail address to which their web form is connected doesn't even work, e-mailing me this bounce message:

Lifetime Membership Trap
If offered, do not sign up for Sirius XM's lifetime membership program. As it turns out, after you spend hunders of dollars to become an lifetime member you are charged $75 to have them switch radios, even if you have to switch radios because of a defective radio marketd by Sirius themselves.
I purchased the lifetime membership because my wife bought me a Starmate radio for my car. Just over a year later the radio just stopped receiving a single. It was determined that this was a known defect/bug with the Starmate radios and there was nothing they could do. Okay, although I was annoyed that I had to purchase a new radio, however after I purchased the radio, they charged my wifes credit card a $75 activation fee... this fee only for lifetime memberships.
I did not purchase this radio because I wanted a new radio, I was perfectly happy with the one I had. I purchased the radio because of a defected radion provided by Sirius themselves. So not only did I have to purchase a new radio ( which I thought was ridiculous as I still have FM/AM radios that work from when I was a kid) I had to pay them $75 to switch the radio serial number on my account... taking them all of 2 minutes to do.
In my opinion this is a complete scam. In addition, when I was being talked into the life time membership, (even though it was in the fine print in the documents I received a few weeks later) I was never told this by the sales representitive.
It it weren't for the amount of money paid (in comparision to the monthly fee) and this being the only medium to get Howard Stern, I would have completely dropped the service.
Good luck to the new merged comapny if they continue to treat existing customers like garbage.
(I put this on as Unauthoizred charges because they charged my wife's credit card because after I purchased the life time membership she wanted to activate the dadio in her new card and purcahsed the monthly plan... therefore this was the only credit card that had access to.)

Unauthorized charges
I just want to share my honest opinion. I have been a Sirius Satellite Radio customer since 2003 and I have always paid $6.99 every month for my two additional radios on a 6 month basis. I guess Sirius has raised their prices to $8.99 every month for every additional radio after the first radio unless you prepay for 1 year then it is $6.99. I don't think it is worth the price increase at all. Over some time I have noticed on certain channels such as the rock station 'octane 20' 'lithium 24', 'hip hop nation 40', and 'the heat 50' is increasingly censoring their music. I singed up just to hear it the way the artist produced it and not hacked up like on air radio. I don't get it...price increases and censoring..and not to mention their customer service is horrible. Only today after I told them to cancel all three of my accounts because of the price increase they offered me $5.99 every month for a 6 month subscription each for my 2 additional radios. It makes no sence at all... if they would have left it at $6.99 for every month I would have not cared! But now they still take a loss. Anyways just wanted to say this.

Misrepresentation of Offer
Got contacted in the mail about Serius XM's plans to charge an additional $2.99 for internet streaming, but good news, should I go along with pre-paying for one two or three years, I can continue to enjoy the service I have had at the locked in price, no additional $2.99 a month. So I went for it and took on two years. I go online tonight, and the player is blank except for my presets, with which I am able to access some programing. I decide to get to the player through the internet rather than with my favorites link, thinking that may resolve it, and I do get to the player and it still has the raggedy, corrupted graphics, but all stations are there, only the quality isn't the same as it used to be. I go to the settings and I see:
SETTINGS
Choose your listening experience: Basic Online Listening - 32k Premium Online Listening - 128k
Choose your listening experience: Your package does not include premium online listening. Upgrade now.
The upgrade costs $2.99 a month. I can't help but feel deceived. I had at my disposal the higher bit rate stream prior to the letter, and felt I was going along with the offer to preserve the service I had enjoyed for years. As a matter of fact, the letter said that, "Your current XM Radio Online listening privileges will be available at no charge until your next renewal date." Shoddy, shoddy bait and switch, shame on you XM. There was no mention that I would be eligible for only the inferior stream if I took them up on their offer. Lies of ommision won't help their business flourish. It's telling that the 32K bit "basic" stream isn't even offered on their web site. It's sad that that the poor quality internet streaming is reserved for their loyal customers.
