OVERPRICED!!!
Our bed was 12 years old, and needed replacing. We decided on a i8 Sleep Number Bed with an adjustable Flex Fit Base. Total price: $4, 000.00. We thought it would really make a huge improvement for us with back pain (according to the company's claims) and that the bed would last us many years, so we thought- the more expensive the bed, the better it is, right? WRONG.
We were so excited, until we watched them set it up in our bedroom and realized what we had actually paid for...We paid $2000 for the mattress alone, which is basically strips of foam, 2 air chambers, an egg crate type pad, a too-thin mattress cover, an air pump and one remote. THAT'S IT!!!
We slept on it for a month, and here's why we hated it:
1# If your number is low, it's like sleeping in a trench. If you roll to the center, it's like climbing out of a hole. If your number is higher, then it feels rock hard. We fiddled with the stupid numbers on a daily basis and couldn't find the right one.
#2 The so called pillowtop is NOT a pillowtop. It is way too thin and uncomfortable.
#3 You can't use the same setting for back and side sleeping. Atleast I couldn't. Neck and shoulder pain was the result.
#4 It feels like you are sleeping on a big rubber ball with a couple inches of padding on top. Like tent camping with the air mattress...not pleasant!
#5 Transfer of motion. Movement on one side will disturb the other person.
#6 Even filled up to 100 on both sides, you can clearly see 2 indentations. That was only after a month. What was it going to look like after a year??
We called customer service, and they told us they had some complaints about the mattress pad being too thin, so they sent us a thicker pad to replace the old one. We slept on it, but still hated it. We are returning the mattress, but guess what? They won't take back the base, so we will have to find a mattress that is compatible with the adjustable base!
The Sleep Number bed is a POOR QUALITY, OVERPRICED, GLORIFIED cheap air mattress. THIS BED IS A RIP OFF!!!

Replacement part
I brought the bed 3 years ago and now it seems like I'm stuck with it. The problems are the electrical parts, complicated set up, moving it, overpriced and lack of help from customer service. My remote is giving me trouble now it controls the sleep number. It will cost me to replace it and I also have to pay for shipping and handeling. I don't know how I am going to move the bed since the matteress is made of foam rubber and a bladder that inflates which is attached to an electrical pump. It is a pain to set up. There is no way I can do it by myself. The frame which is the heaviest part is not covered by warenty and when I wanted to give it back, they would not move the frame so because I paid 3000 for it, I kept it. It isn't that comfortable on any setting anyways. I would like to get rid of it but don't know how and get an normal decent bed. Buyer Beware, this company has high pressure salesmen.

Bed is no what they advertise
Paid $3000.00 for this bed. When company sent men to install, it was installed wrong. We had to correct this. Then, the air controller went out; they replaced. this one went out and had to be replaced again. We began getting the trench affect; where my husband & I had to sleep on our side, in our own trench. The middle of the bed was the "hump" so couldn't sleep next to each other. Their customer service replaced more parts and it did the same thing. Then, they told us there wasn't anything else they were going to do, so we were stuck with it. We wanted to return it after 30 days, only to find out, we had to pay ALL the shipping expenses to return it. The warranty had to be read like a lawyers book. Couldn't be understood until we needed to use it. They are not the kind of company to do business with. Had to go out & buy a new bed. And of course, the foundation does not come with the mattresses; it is bought separate and made by a whole different company so when this goes bad, it's another whole hassle. Today, this bed is in the top of our barn for the birds to sleep on. And if they could talk, bet they'd complain too. There went my $3000.00

lousy product
My husband and I purchased our sleep Number bed a year ago. We spent $1500 on it. That was one the worst $1500 we ever spent. We tried and tried to find our numbers. I would find mine then my husband would find his, I would roll down hill. It didn't work for us to sleep together well at all. I myself slept in my recliner and slept so much better. I advise no one to waste their money on it.

Not what it is cracked up to be
I bought a sleep number bed because of the adjustable sleep setting and the 30 in home trial. Well the bed wasn't all they said it would be. The sides are made of cheap foam that sinks in when you sit on the side and will wear out soon. Sometimes the bed says it is at a certain number, say 35, but when you go to lower the setting it turns out it was actually at a 50. My husband and I rolled toward the middle at night whether or not the other was in the bed, and when I called to arrange a return and told customer service the problem they told me they have an air chamber they can send to fix that. Well if it is an established problem, shouldn't it come standard and you not force people to call and complain about it? It is basically just an air mattress with a pump that has a pad over it. The warranty they advertise says 20 years, but read the small print. They only fully guarantee it for 2 years. The rest of the time is pro-rated. If you don't have more than 2 years of confidence in your product, well neither do I. We read complaints about mold on the air chambers and when we broke the bed down I found a big spot of moisture even though we bought the mattress protector for $200, so the moisture couldn't have come from the surface of the bed, it must have origionated within the bed itself. I called after just 10 days to arrange a return and was told that I am required to keep it the full 30 days even though I have bought a new mattress that is on my bed already. I recommend against it.

Lousy sleep, does not do what it says
All of these mattress should be recalled. They are terrible. They don't do what they advertise. It definately is false advertising, Ours is 6 years old and when we started having trouble with the pump and losing air we called and they gave us a list of stuff to do to check it. My husband is 73 and I am 72 we can't be moving a king size bed like it weighs 30 lbs. Needless to say it still is the way it was when we called 6 months ago. Every morning we wake up with a back ache because the bed loses air during the night and it starts out at 50 and is 25 in the morning. You wake up sleeping in a hole which is hard to get out of. Bad, really bad. We were at the mall yesterday where we bought it and there were people in the store looking at them. Any time we see customers in there store we go in and complain to make sure they hear our complaints so hopefully they won't be taken in like we were. I wish some one would start a class action lawsuit because this is what it needs to stop them. If I had the funds or knowledge to do so I would.

Rotten Product
After a few months of complaining to one another "we seem to be sliding toward the center of the bed", we pulled the top cover today to find what appears to be water stains around the perimeter and large wet spots on the air bladders. When looking at the lateral supports, it's clear they are bending at the center which appears to be the cause of "sliding". I'm calling Select Comfort's customer service line tomorrow to hear what they have to say. My opinion is warranty has nothing to do with defective products, which these issues fall under. I'll post the results later in the week.
