Unsatisfactory Customer service
My husband and I purchased a Sleep number bed 2 years ago. We love it and it has helped my back problems once we got the right number. We then went to the store to purchase their temprature control sheets and mattress pad. They didn't have our size in stock and said 4-5 days shipping. A few days later I checked the tracking number, it is going to be 2 weeks for delivery!!! Now I suffer from night flashes and was so looking forward to using their product, I know 2 weeks is nothing but when you suffer from nightly hot flashes you get anxious to reduce the problem. After calling their customer service they said standard delivery from a store order is 2 weeks. The poor kid didn't get it, standard is their standard and that is unacceptable! Then he tells me that online orders are 3-4 weeks, I guess thinking that will comfort me.
We still love our bed but will not purchase anything more from them because they never have your size in stock at the store and 2-4 weeks delivery is unacceptable in this day and time. I know for a fact that if they had their act together the 4-5 days would be feasable. Shame on you Sleep Number for your awful service!

mold and back leg pain
I have had severe pain in my back and legs for some time. After paying so much for the set, I did not have the finance to purchase another. However, I had been having serious bouts with allergies. Found that this set has mold in it. I have STOPPED sleeping any more in this bed. WHAT CAN I DO TO FILE A COMPLAINT AGAINST THIS COMPANY? They have advertised this bed as the best, and my experience is that is NOT what they have claimed it to be..

Poor customer service
Non-existant customer care. Sales people mis-represent conditions and factory takes no remedial action. Response is "you should read the contract before signing". Bought a bed in Utah while traveling. Sales person stated sale was about to end. Informed him we wouldn't be returning to our Florida home for 2 months. He said 30 day trial would begin when we arrived home. Everything was returnable during the trial period. Called today to inform Select Comfort of the beginning of my trial period since I would be back home in 5 days. I was told my trial period was over and even if it wasn't, the base was not returnable since it was "a factory close out". I threatened to return the unopened boxes and told it would not be accepted. Told them of salesperson's representations to which they responded "I must have misunderstood him". My wife and I had salesman repeat his statements before signing. It appears that the sales staff is permitted to say whatever it takes to close the deal without fear of management oversight.
Here I am as a new customer who has yet to sleep on their bed and I am totally turned off. This is NOT A CUSTOMER ORIENTED COMPANY. If you value service, shop elsewhere.

Back pain
My wife is a blogger and she entered a blog contest for a free P2 Queen sized sleep number bed. She won the contest and a few months later, our Sleep Number bed coupon arrived. We drove an hour to take it to the store to redeem the coupon. Man were we excited. I have had back pain for a while now and we thought that it would help it tremendously. Upon receiving the sleep number bed in 4 different boxes, I was amazed to find out the bed is plastic...a $2, 000 plastic bed? Nonetheless, we set it up in about an hour and had a go at it. She loves it. Doesn't want to get rid of it, but I guess we're going to have to get separate rooms in order for me to sleep because this bed is absolutely horrid! I wake up after 5 hours of tossing and turning only to find that I can't fully straighten my back out. I have to work through the pain in my back for about a half hour or so while waiting for my Aleve to kick in.
There seems to be only 2 different positions that this bed will go in: (1) Hump mode and (2) ditch mode. Hump mode: In this mode, the air bag is filled up to keep from going in to ditch mode. Unfortunately, it causes a hump right down the center of my side of the bed, so my body is slipping down the hump towards my wife's side of the bed, or down towards the floor. I suppose I can try straddling the hump. . . . this doesn't quite work though, because once I'm asleep I usually wake up sleeping on the little piece of cheap foam that separates her airbag from my airbag.
Ditch Mode: In this mode, the "air bag" gets all the air pushed to the head and the foot of the bed, which causes my body to be contorted in to the shape of a "C." I've always wanted to be a cheerleader, but I never thought I should be "giving you a 'C' " while I'm sleeping. Anyhow, this mode seems to be a bit more comfortable, however I believe that this position causes the most back pain. It seems that every time I adjust myself in the bed another part of my body becomes adjusted as well due to the fact that the air is pushed to one side of the "air bag." The secondary adjustment is not a good thing, however. It is actually very painful. This Ditch Mode causes me a lot of pain in the morning. Terrible pain.
Like I said earlier, my wife absolutely loves this bed. She gets mad when I gripe about the bed, but let's face it: (1) I get no sleep which makes me grouchy and (2) EVERY morning I wake up with excruciating back pain. Her reasoning behind the back pain is "You're always in pain when you get up!" While this assertion is true, it fails to tell the true tale, because this bed makes my back hurt much much much worse.
Verdict: If your back is 100%, and you're a female that weighs 170 lbs, blonde haired, blue eyed with freckles, then this bed is perfect for you, but if you have back pain, weigh over 200 lbs and can't straddle humps well, then I would suggest passing on this Chinese made plastic box with an air mattress and strips of foam.* I'm just very glad that I didn't pay money for this bed. If I had, this review would be even worse and my wife probably would've already left me, taken the kids and found another man that doesn't have back problems, so she can keep the bed. (I'm joking of course.)
*disclaimer-I have no proof that the bed is Chinese made, but I can't think for the life of me why an American manufacturer would produce such a low-grade product.

Can't Sleep; Pain
My parents bought themselves, and me, sleep number beds a couple years ago. Their's has a thick pillow top, mine does not.
I have held my complaints in because I dodn't want to seem ungrateful. But, I lose more and more sleep, and wake up in more and more pain. I have to let it out.
I have the Queen Size, 3000 model. There is minimal padding between you and the air chaimbers, therefore if your 'sleep number' is l0w because you like a soft matress, the heaviest parts of your body rest on the plastic 'box spring.' It causes uneccessary pain on your hips and lower back. The same thing occurs if you raise the 'sleep number, ' because then it is too firm and putting pressure where you don't need any.
Although the pain starts at the lower back, it rises to the shoulders and neck before long.
At first, I was going to try and order a pillow top to solve my issues (since my fols have one and don't complain) but the Select Comfort Reps told me it would cost $700, because the pillow top can't be sold seperately, meaning you have to buy the whole shell.
Forget that noise. I can get a great whole matress for that kind of cash and sleep like a baby.
Also, you tend to rolls towards the middle of the bed, which provokes more discomfort if sleeping with a partner.
Please don't be fooled, guys. You can go out and spend $50 on a regular air matress and be more comfortable than you can on the Sleep Number.

the stores and parts
i've been to several stores and none of them carry any replacement parts. first i have been having problems with one matress and the air pump. also the side supports are breaking down and starting to sag. i was going to at one time buy a new pillow top because the one i got i don't find all that comfortable. but as i can't find not one store that carries the tops . and with all the other parts breaking down im very disappointed. i was in florida when i first saw the sleep number bed. thought it was great and would help on my bad back. when the bed was of better quality and working right it was good. but now i dont find it all good, as i dont feel it is working up to what i had first bought. oh and by the way the remote doesn't work that great either (some times it does and some time it doesn't) sign disappointed in new hampshire

Poor Quality
I purchased Sleep Number bed 4 years ago and have been sleeping in a hole for the past two years.
The king size mattress sags in the middle where the two air mattresses come together. There is a foam pad that is 2" thick that is between the mattresses.
I called customer service and they wanted to send me a "riser" for the middle of the bed. Are you kidding me!!
After two years, a mattress should not sag in the middle.
I wake up struggling to get to the "high" side of the bed, with my back hurting. Their claims for a perfect night sleep is a bunch of bull. I keep reading similar complaints, in fact the exact same problem.
Customer service made it sound like it was my fault because I sleep alone in a king bed. But, I sleep on the right side. I'm only forced in the middle by the sloping inward mattress!
This bed and the warranty sucks! The company's profits must be so high that they don't need to find a solution. Just keep pumping out commercials of how great the product is to drown out the facts: 1) poor quality, 2) not durable, 3) warranty is not sufficient, 4) defects appear after 2 years where no shipping is paid and maybe the customer won't complain.
Nice try.
If anyone has this same problem, email me: [email protected] I will gladly join you in a class action suit!

Remote has no display
Hey everyone that has a Sleep Number bed. What's your number? Me? I can't tell you. Both wired remotes lost their displays within a week. Talked to Select Comfort. It seems their warranty does not cover the wired remotes. Because it is wired to the pump, it is too costly for them to cover problems with the remotes. I cannot find anyone that has parts for them. Anyone have an idea where to find the displays for these remotes, please let me know.
