Threatened to have arrested on 3rd Degree Felony Retail Theft
Angie Johnson called my father and my sister at their homes and told both of them that they I needed to call them because a warrant for my arrest was going to be issued for retail theft of a laptop from Coast 2 Coast PC. (Which is another long story, their payment schedules are wrong, they take the wrong amount of money on the wrong dates...) At any rate, my sister called me this morning and told me I had a bench warrant issued for my arrest. Now, she works for the warrants department and I thought she was for real, so I called Smith, Dean and Associates to find out what was going on. The more Angie Johnson talked, the more it sounded like she was nuts. She claimed to be working on the phone with Coast 2 Coast on my behalf, kept me on hold for 10 minutes at a time and said that nothing less than 300.00 would keep me out of jail. When I explained I had some recent financial hard ships she said "Say you're sitting in a jail cell, who would be the first person you'd call to bail you out of jail on a 3rd degree felony for retail theft". She said.. "That person should be the one you call to borrow 300.00 from to save this from going any further." That was when I knew she was full of crap. She stated that the police would come to my place of work, arrest me and I'd lose my job while I sat in a jail cell waiting for someone to bail me out of jail, and it would be the cost of what I owed Coast 2 Coast. Which I knew was bogus. I got off of the phone with her, called my sister back, she said she had NO bench warrant for me like I had suspected. I called a lawyer who was a friend of the family, who is going to call them back for me today. I also filed a complaint with the FTC. It's after 2:00PM now, when Angie Johnson was going to go in front of the judge and tell them to arrest me... I'm in PA, not in FL... I'm sooooo scared! NOT. Smith, Dean and Associates, you be afraid, we are coming after you! Regardless of whether or not you owe the money, people need to be treated fairly, with dignity and not with threats. She also said she ran a back ground check on me and found that I had no record of this nature and therefore, the law might take that into consideration. This place is ridiculous. Sure, they can file a judgement against me in court for the money, but that's a civil matter. It's not retail theft, it's not a felony to not be able to pay for something because you fell on hard times. Don't pay these morons. Let the original company file a civil suit if they want their money. They still can't get blood from a stone and it doesn't make you a criminal either.

Unlawful collections practices
These creeps called my elderly grandmother demanding that either she or I pay this debt immediatly or my husband would end up in jail. I am happy to pay this debt, It was a misunderstanding to begin with. I have since paid the company I owed money to in full. As soon as I asked for payment information from this debt collector, they started yelling, swearing and saying that they didn't want my money, they would rather put me on jail. Do yourself a favor and file a complaint with the ftc at www.ftc.gov, also persue any and all local regulatory agencies. Here in JAX, call JSA and file a report about any illegal practices that they happened to use. Then call the state attorney's office at 630-2400 with your police report number. Illegal practices include misrepresenting themselves as attorneys or agents of the state/ police; calling you at work; disclosing ANY information regarding the debt to family, friends, or co-workers; using profane language, and so forth. During my interaction with them they must have broken 10 laws regarding debt collection practices. 9 times out of 10, they CANNOT have you arrested or thrown in jail! Threatening to do so is illegal!! They CANNOT have the state take your kids! Even saying these things to you ARE ILLEGAL. If you have bills, by all means pay them, but these debt collectors are out of control and the tactics they use should be stopped.

Threat and harrasment
I received a call stating that I would go to jail and the Sheriff's would pick me up if I do not pay them within 3 hours. I was scared and decided to do rearch on this company.
I called the Payday Loan Office and asked who they were and they told me that the is the collection agency that they do use.
I was going to pay them right away after they said that. I decided to do more research. I than contacted the General Attorney and Sheriff's Dept.
They informed me that they were violating all FTC rules since this is a civil matter.
I called the attorney and decided to make payments through him. I informed Lisa Smith of this and that is when she decided to call me a spic and ignorant.
Her daughter and son were saying the same comments.
