Rip Off Product/Shipping charge
Had second thoughts about ordering Smooth-Away product on line so didn't complete the transaction-(or so I thought). Surprise, three weeks later comes package from company. Product doesn't work-I was charged almost three times what the shipping charge should have been. I was sent double the product. I tried to contact customer service-got message "Cannot take your calls due to large volume" and then disconnected. I tried calling the parent company, Idea Village and couldn't get anyone there either. I sent back products with letter. Finally got back the original price of merchandise ($29.98)but not the shipping and handling ($27.98). Had since learned that they charge different prices for merchandise and shipping "willly nilly" and keep the shipping charge when and if they refund your money for product. I was also warned about them charging credit card for additional product that wasn't ordered or sent. i sent another letter indicating that they should refund my shipping/handling charge or I would contact the Attorney General. They have an awful reputation with BBB. I had two phone calls from them-finally got in touch with them today and they told me they were not going to refund my money. When I said that I would go forward with my complaint to the Attorney General then I was told they will refund my money. Who knows if they will or not. My advice---don't even go near their order form on their site--you don't have to go through all the screens to have some glitch place an order for you. The products a rip off and the company is a rip off.

Over priced/non disclosure of shipping costs
GSI distributors of "smooth Away" Have unclear and scandalous selling practices. on their web site you think you are ordering one set for 14.99+5.99 s&h even after you decline the second free+ S&h set when your card is charged it 34.97 and when you call its for a buy one get one free . Hmmmm dont think 14.99+5.99+5.99=34.97.Also when you try and order you have to jump several hoops on products they are trying to sell you in addition to the smooth away system when you decline all these and think you on your way to a check out system a screen pops you thanking you for your order they offer no final summary on you order or what you final cost is going to be.The only thing you get is a phone call the day after it has been shipped so there is no way to cancel your order when you find out you've been over charged. Also when you call customer service and confront them over their business practices they will get very defensive tell you to just accept the order and have a nice day, they tell you you can refuse the shippment and you will get your money back in 6-8 months. Why only 1 day to steal it but half a year or better to give it back.My guess its their way of telling you to suck it up.

Unauthorized billing
My bill was not displayed at time of internet order. What was advertised at $14.99+shipping and handling, turned into $60.93 on my visa card. I called smoothaway to complain and tell them i was going to send the product back to them. They said ok, and they would apply a $10.00 credit to my account, for a future purchase. When I asked about $50.93, smooth away said they wouldn't include that in the refund. I told them my next move was to call visa and see what they could do. My visa rep was named Kevin, he had a strong accent, and I asked where he was located? He said he was in India. I explained the situation to him and he agreed that he could do something about it, and gave me instructions on what to do Thanks to Kevin, in India, Visa rep, you did a nice job and your english was pretty good too.

Get your money back from Smooth Away scam!
For those who are having a problem getting their refunds back, call your credit card company and put your card in dispute for the amount that they have charged (or overcharged). Your credit card company should refund you back the monies while in dispute. They will start an investigation into the dispute to determine whether you are owed a refund due to the scam.
Regardless of whether you were charged 2-3 weeks ago, call your credit card co. or bank and tell them of the suspicious overcharge. They still should look into it.

ripped off
The product does not work as described. More importantly...they over charge you for shipping. They actually double shipped to us and charged us over $90. We sent back the first shipment unopened - as an unexcepted delivery through the USPS which is how they shipped it. That is what they told us to do when we saw that they tripple charged us. 2 weeks later, they say they don't have it back. I paid to send the 2nd shipment back, and they say they recieved that one, but they are only crediting us $14.95. So we are still out $75. This is a scam.

No Product
I ordered Smooth Away and when I check the order it was supposedly shipped on 12/27. It is now 1/21. I called the number listed and was cut off.

How do I get my money back?!

Rip off ---DONT BUY IT!!!
I ordered Smooth Away 1/3/09 for my daughter using her $25 gift card she received for Christmas. The invoice came up as $14.99 (two pack) + $6.99 S&H = $21.98 right? wrong! The gift card went through no problem...leaving a balance of $3.02 which she later used for something else. By 1/16/09 the order still has not arrived. I pulled it back up on line and now it shows $14.99 + $13.98 S&H = $28.97 due??? So I FINALLY get through on the phone to them (35 min wait) to be told my card was declined. No doubt...it was only a $25 gift card. So, I ask for the rep's supervisor. Carolyn is too incompetent to understand this simple scenario. I tell her we no longer have the gift card. She could re-charge $25 towards the order and then let me pay the difference of $3.97 in another form of payment. She couldn't understand that and flat out refused. Said I would need to provide another credit card...RED FLAGS!!! She stated there was no one else I could speak with regarding this...oh right...I just reported them to the Better Business Bureau and next I will go to the Food & Drug Admin...PLEASE DONT BOTHER - OTHER SITES SAY THAT SMOOTH AWAY IS MORE PAINFUL THEN SHAVING AND THE HAIR GROWS BACK FASTER...What a rip off! Buyer beware...we will go back to waxing!

Ineffectiveness of Product; Shipping
I ordered Smooth Away for Christmas with an optional order for replacement pads. I called to cancel the replacement pad order and could not get through. I was billed for the replacement pads. I received the Smooth Away order and followed the brief instructions for use to the letter. It did not remove hair at all and caused abrasions on my 11-year old daughters arms and legs. I was billed over $25 dollars for shipping, when it is advertised on the web at 6.99. I called Smooth Away and they would only give me a credit for $5.00. I am now exploring filing a small claims action against them and have contacted the Food and Drug Administration and the California Department of Consumer Affairs.

Rip-off; deceptive advertising, over charging
From a TV advertisement I purchased the product Smooth Away, which was supposed to include the following for $14.99:
1 Large Smooth Away
1 Small Smooth Away
4 Large Smooth Away Replacement Pads
4 Small Smooth Away Replacement Pads

If I ordered that day I would get one free order of all of the above + s&h

When my box arrived the amount they charged my credit card was $57.94. They charged me separately for the Large and the Small Smooth Away. + they charged me $27.96 for the shipping & handling of a small box by Parcel Post weighing less than 1 lb.

They totally misrepresented their advertising, over charged for the shipping and ripped me off in general.

They have not been available by phone, e-mail or online customer service. MAJOR RIP-OFF.

Unauthorized charges
They charged my credit card $60.93 the shipping cost was $25.96. I should of had the product next day for that price but haven't received it yet. I went on there website to track the product and it was shipped on December 27, 2008. I tried calling and I get a machine saying due to the excess amount of calls try back another day. I have the credit card company and they are investigating it.
