Dear LACity of Sanitation,
Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation and LADWP
First of all, I am unemployed and low income I am completely stuck paying a ridiculously impossibly high SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL fee that makes me choose between eating and having electricity. My Solid Waste Disposal fee costs more than ALL of my other utilities COMBINED including my internet. I cannot afford this. I simply CANNOT afford this. I make one bag of trash per week yet I have to pay $50?
I cannot cancel my trash service without canceling my electricity because you tied them to each other, I cannot choose to go with a private service, I cannot try to get one big trash bin so that all of the neighbors here can split the cost (because we would), I cannot reduce the amount of bins to lower the cost, there is no low income option for people like me (I am not handicapped or a senior citizen). There is no way to avoid or minimize this outrageous tax to anything remotely reasonable. It is a real struggle every month because of the trash fees. It is not right.
On top of that, this is what it looks like after your garbage men come through. I am attaching photos. I have witnessed them actually running over trash bins. Maybe you need this slush trash tax fund on top of tax payer dollars to keep buying new bins because of your trash men.
Look at this? This is not acceptable.
I implore you to speak to your trash workers and to come up with a plan to help the low income live in this tough economy. I sincerely hope you take into consideration if you try a plan that is pay for what trash you make that you come up with a plan to stop illegal trash dumping too.
