The Buisiness I'm complaining about is a car rental place called "Sommerset Auto Rentals" on U.S. highway 1 south in North Brunswick, New Jersey. I rented a car from them to get to make a round trip to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina on new years eve of 2006-2007 to compete in a 5K running race. They charged me for 4 days when I only used the car for 3.Two weeks before I rented the car I pointed to a bicycle I owned that I rode there with and specifically asked "will THAT bicycle fit into THEE car that I will be renting" and they replied "YES, of course it will ...". It didn't even come close to fitting inside the car and the guy insisted that I would have to rent a van for considerably more money. In the weeks preceeding me renting the car I repeatedly kept saying I must make the trip as early as possible on saturday morning. A guy who goes by the name "Laz" kept replying "don't worry, don't worry, we open at 8:00 A.M. on saturday". When I arrived on the saturday before the race the guy who tended to me didn't show up until after 9:00 A.M. and I wound up daparting at least 1 hour and 15 behind schedule. When I discussed collateral with them before the money was put down they kept insisting that a credit card had to be used and not cash or else HUNDREDS of more dollars would be needed as "security". Come to find out later on that there is a law (at least in New Jersey) that car rental agency-businesses are allowed to take an unlimited collateral off of any credit card or other type of electronic transfer like debt cards, greendot, pre-paid cards, and so on. When I left the Marine Corps base after the race the brakes began started squeeling-I wasn't going to complain or say anything about this because I figured they would probably try to blame on me in order to steal more money. They also charge you close to 5 dollars for every gallon of gasoline that you don't replace in the tank when you return the car. They took forever to put the remaining collateral back on the card and when they did there was a discrepency of somewhere between 12 and 20 dollars. Basically they "screwd me out of even more than what they originaly agreed to screw me out of !!!".
I fortunately there isn't anything I could do about this but warn others. DON'T EVER RENT A CAR FROM THESE PEOPLE.
