Unsatisfactory rating with Better Businness Bureau
Do NOT oder from this company! Their prices are low only to hook you into providing payment information. This company is rude, intimidating, and unprofessional. I ordered the Rebel XSi and received an email to call to confirm the order. After taking my security code from the credit card, the saleman pushed additional products, was sarcastic and rude when I asked questions, and refused to give me his name or pass me off to the owner of the company. He wouldn't hold the order or cancel it without charging a restocking fee, even though the camera had not yet been prepared for shipping. He continued to pressure me into buying products with which I was not familiar. During the second phonecall I made to try to talk to another individual, the same man hung up on me. I submitted a complaint to the BBB. You can visit the New York BBB website to read about all the complaints this company has received.

Wrong merchandise, terrible service
I fell victim to these scam artists. I called to put an order because they're web site had too many products. I asked for an accidental warranty. I get the package today with a regular warranty (not accidental). I call and I'm told that the accidental costs much more. No duh! Why didn't you tell me that when I called to place the order? So then the guys starts yelling at me telling me to return the camera and pay 10% restocking but I can't return the warranty. He's stating that's nonrefundable when the web site and the paper states that as long its not registered it may be returned. So then he says that they register the warranty for you when they ship things out. WHAT? I asked to speak to a supervisor, he said no, I asked for another employee and he said no. He said that if I called back all my calls would be routed to him specifically so I don't get anyone else. GOSH! I wish I would have known about this site before I made this $750 mistake.

SCAM - total swindlers
I had an AWFUL experience with this site. I found the 18-200 nikon VR DX lens for $489 and immediately went to buy it. I got a call the next day asking me to confirm my purchase. When the customer service person talked to me, he asked for the 3 digits on the back of my card. Then he asked me what camera I shoot with. After I told him D200, he told me I should instead buy the Sigma 18-200 lens, and it's available for $700 something... He went on to tell me that he shoots with that lens and a D200, and Nikon glass is not as sharp, and the other lens is quieter and faster, the filter pack is good vs. the nikon filter pack is crappy, etc. It was pretty blatantly obvious he was getting some sort of commission from Sigma, or just wanted me to spend $300 more. I told him I would look into it, and call him back the next day with my decision. I looked it up that night and decided to go with the nikon lens anyway.
So, I called him the next day and he again tried to upsell me. I asked him to cancel my filter upgrade package, since he told me they were they were bad filters. Then he went into something about how they were getting lots of returns on this nikon lens and was I sure I wanted to order it? He glossed over something about the wholesale version, and after much questioning, I got the whole story. The lens is cheap because it is basically a telescope version - it doesn't even come with a lens mount and you won't be able to put it on your camera! I said, ok, I need to cancel my order. He told me that I had to pay a 10% restocking fee (the product had not been packaged or shipped). I said no, this is misleading, and he said it's company policy. I said let me talk to the manager, and he rudely said he was the manager. I said I will not pay 10% for something marked incorrectly - the picture shows the full lens and there is NO mention of a wholesale version on the page listing the lens. He said we don't have to because our website says the word "wholesale". I corrected him and told him the website logo says "wholesale prices, retail service". After raising his voice and getting rude, he said, "I don't want to fight, what do you want?" I said simply that I didn't want to pay 10%! He yelled, "fine I won't charge you" and HUNG UP on me. WOW, that's customer service for you. I have vowed to trash this company on every consumer review site possible to avoid anyone else getting scammed!
BOTTOM LINE - DO NOT BUY FROM SONIC CAMERAS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

camera lenses
l bought a Panasonic video camera from Sonic Cameras and as they added charges and batteries the price was going up but l agreed to the prices but when they added they have a wide angle lens and a telephoto for thios camera l assumed that they knew what they were talking about as l am a stills photographer and not video.
I was shocked to find that the lenses they sold me do not work with this camera and l dont understand why they are open and allowed to sell add on items that do not fit the cameras.
They tell you they have sold a package and therefore do not re-imburse you for lenses as they list it on the invoice as a zero charge and put the total price at the side of the camera only.
This is very unfair
How can l get my money back for these lenses
Regards
Angela

Bait and Switch
As other posters have mentioned, this company runs a blatantly illegal bait and switch operation. Received a "confirmation call" a few days before Christmas and was told a Nikon D40 I purchased "did not come with a battery and not buying an extra battery would be a serious mistake". Sounded like garbage, but was told the camera would not be shipped without an additional battery. I agreed under protest, thinking I would later return the extra battery. As it turns out of course, the camera did come with a battery, and we were lied to as expected. Furthermore, an enclosed invoice contained no phone and no reference to "Mark" who sold the camera. Call inquiries to complain have resulted in hang ups after some weak attempts at intimidation (we told the person onthe phone point blank we would contact the Astoria, NY police and report fraud/theft.. which backed them off). To boot, the device they sent me is licensed for sale abroad and we suspect the camera is a knockoff. We will be filing a formal complaint with the NY district attorney's office, as well as canceling the credit card charge and changing our credit card number. We have no doubt these thugs would try to recharge us after a dispute.
In short, do not do business with these people. They will likely be charged with criminal conduct soon enough.

Bad service
My experience with Sonic Camera's is the same as everybody elses. I just wanted the Canon 40D. I originally purchased it from ShopDigitalDirect(another scam company) and once the order was placed, I could not get through to them so I sent them an email and cancelled my order. I then went to Sonic Camera for the same item and found it for 319 plus 219 for the 28-135 IS USM Canon lens. When I called in to "verify" my order, it took 4 people and 20 minutes before someone could help me, then, I asked if they had the camera and lens in. They said yes. When I told them that I was not interested in purchasing the battery and charger b/c it was way overpriced, they all of a sudden did not have the camera in stock and said that it would be 4-6 weeks before it came in. Their USA warranty - it was with Sonic for parts only. Shoot, what's the difference b/w that and toilet paper, got me right now after reading all the other posts by others. I will be checking my cc to see if additional things have been added from others and dispute them. the next day i received an email from them stating that they are going to be putting me on a wait list until the camera comes in stock. No thank you. I cancelled my order when they said that the camera had no battery, no charger, no software or firmware. Sounds shabby to me. Stay away from. They would have been glad to sell me the "upgraded" kit for 1099.99. I turned them down! Stay away as the others have found out too!

Bait and switch
I bought a Digital Rebel XTI for $289.
Then received "the" email stating they wanted to confirm the order.
I waited, after being suprised and Googled the site and was shocked.
A couple days later got a phone call from them stating to call and speak to Mark 888-450-4111 x224 to confirm the order. I called and he asked for the last 3 digits of the card and to confirm the shipping address. He then stated the are out of stock and it is discontinued. He then tried to push the XS at more money.
This is the clasic bait and switch crap scam!
Sonic Sucks!

Awful Customer Service
DO NOT ORDER FROM THESE PEOPLE!!! I should have known...
Of course they are very inviting due to their low prices. If you order online, you then have to CALL them to confirm your order, at which point they try to make you feel like an idiot and push you into order a million things that "aren't included". Batteries, chargers etc. They tried to tell me that the camera I was purchasing did not use the same batteries as another one of my Canon's and also needed a different type of charger!
So, I placed the order, reluctantly, and moved on. Well, after about an hour of thinking I decided to call them back to change the order, upgrade to a different body and get rid of all of the extras they had pushed on me. At that time, according to them, the order had already been send to be shipped ( I had requested and paid for overnight) so I was UNABLE to change my order. I would have to wait until I received the package, call back and return it.. at which point I am now having to pay $200 in restocking!!! what the heck?
Not only did it not get here the next day, when I called to take care of this, the supposed manager kept pushing me off asking me, "well, if this wasn't the camera you wanted, why did you order it?" I said, well, I'm pretty sure people change their mind! Jeez. So after quite a heated conversation he pushed me off saying he had A LOT of other people waiting on the line and let's just hurry up and move on with our lives!! Oh My God.. I have never had someone treat me like this who is supposed to be doing customer service.
So PLEASE DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM!!!

Fraud
SONIC CAMERAS LIED SEVERAL TIMES. I purchased, or thought I purchased, a Nikon SB-600 flash on Oct 13, 08. Was sent a confirmation email and asked to call to confirm the order. I called and was asked to upsell to other flashes for more money. I declined and was told my order would be shipped within 10 days. Little did I know, the order was cancelled. These guys are scammers. I finnally got to talk to someone 10 days after my order, to discover that "someone cancelled your order..." Oh, the few times I did get through to talkwith someone, I was told, "Call back in an hour when the computers are up and running..." this was during their posted time of open business... So, beware of Sonic Cameras. I'm sure they have some good stuff from good manufacturers, but I wouldn't recommend Sonic Cameras to anyone... I feel bad for the companies they are tranishing and consumers affected...

Fraudulent Business Practices
These people engauge in fraudulent business practices and Bait & Switch tactics. They advertise products for sale and then don't have them unless you purchase ancellary equipment at an inflated price. I have filed a complaint with the NY Attorney Generals' Office of Consumer Fraud, 120 Broadway, 3rd Floor, NYNY 10217-0332, and recommend that anyone else who has been scammed by these folks do the same. I for one, am willing to press formal charges against these type of ripoff artists.
